Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Unit testing or early life testing did not have to be stopped or delayed because those services were not available.""The most valuable feature is that it supports so many protocols. We, being a large bank, have almost all the protocols, and it supports all of them, so that's one good thing.""You can have a lot of different people with different technologies use the tool, without any programming experience at all, all the way up to people who can program. And then, the more technical that you are, the more programming you have, the more you're able to customize the tool.""Scalability has actually worked well and we are able to bring it to multiple environments.""We have had developers produce code later than we wanted to, but we've had some other stuff that was dependent on that. So what we were able to do was virtualize these assets and then go forward with our developer and not have to wait for these additional services to be available.""The most valuable features are the recording and creating of virtual services.""We are able to quickly scale our requests. We have tested across thousands of requests. We have had no problems so far.""The most valuable features include the capability to use other program languages such as PLSQR, JAVA, .NET."

"It helps in identifying defects earlier. With manual testing, that 15-day timeline meant there were times when we would find defects on the 11th or 12th day of the cycle, but with automation we are able to run the complete suite within a day and we are able to find the failures. It helps us to provide early feedback.""With frequent releases, using automation to perform regression testing can save us huge amount of time and resources.""The entire framework is very useful. It's easily integrable with Excel.""The solution is easy to integrate with other platforms.""The best feature of UFT by far is its compatibility with a large variety of products, tools and technologies. It is currently a challenge to find a single tool on the market besides UFT that will successfully automate tests for so many projects and environments.""The inside object repository is nice. We can use that and learn it through the ALM connection. That's a good feature. The reporting and smart identification features are also excellent.""The most valuable feature of Micro Focus UFT One is you are able to use it with many other technologies. I have not had an instance where the solution was not able to automate or execute automation. I was able to use COBOL to manage some automation.""This product is easy to use, understand, and maintain."

Cons
"From a reporting perspective I think we would like to have a more user-friendly approach.""DevTest is pretty massive. It's hard to tell what different parts of it can be used to do different things. They should modulize it more.""I really want to see more of the "express" kind of model, where you get a little bit for free. I'd love to be able to see you be able to edit and author tests without having to be connected to a licensed server. And then, if you want to go and execute tests, then you go and connect to the server... I think it would unblock people to be able to do a lot more work from home or from remote places, where they can't really connect to the server.""CA actually releases a new version every year. We had issues with the upgrade prior to the latest one.""The cost is an area that needs improvement. There are a couple of other tools which provide support for performance testing with the base version itself, but Broadcom needs a separate component to support virtualization for performance testing. This is a costly component.""They can always work on usability and making simple things simple to do. This is true of every product that deals with complexity.""I would rate the tech support a nine out of ten. They need more knowledge about the connectivity to DevOps orchestration.""Needs some additional lightweight, portable elements."

"I'd like to see test case-related reports included in the solution.""They should include an automated feature to load backlog tests.""I am not sure if they have a vision of how they want to position the leads in the market, because if you look at Tosca, Tosca is one of the automation tools that have a strategy, and it recently updated its strategy with SAP. They are positioning them as a type of continuous testing automation tool. And if you notice Worksoft, particularly the one tool for your enterprise application, your Worksoft is positioning. I am not sure if Micro Focus UFT has a solid strategy in place. They must differentiate themselves so that people recognize Micro Focus UFT for that reason.""It doesn't support Telerik UI controls and we are currently looking for a patch for this.""It could work with more browsers other than Internet Explorer, and could better handle new things like Ext JS.""I would like to have detailed description provided to test the cloud-based applications.""[Tech support is] not a 10 because what happens with some of our issues is that we might not get a patch quickly and we have to hold on to an application until we get a proper solution.""Technical support could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "I think the pricing is quite fair because this solution provides a lot of functionalities, and is quite stable."
  • "There are additional fees for advanced-level technical support."
  • "I don't have the exact dollar amount, but we have spent close to $1,000,000 for a three-year agreement, for an enterprise level."
  • "There is a yearly licensing cost, and I would give it a four out of five."

  • "It took about five years to break even. UFT is costly."
  • "The licensing and pricing model is confusing."
  • "It's an expensive solution."
  • "For the price of five automation licenses, you simply would not be able to hire five manual testers for two years worth of 24/7 manual testing work on demand."
  • "The price is only $3,000. I don't know how many QA analysts you would have in any given company. Probably no more than five or 10. So if it's a large corporation, it can easily afford $15,000 to $25,000. I don't see that being an issue."
  • "The way the pricing model works is that you pay a whole boatload year one. Then, every year after, it is around half or less. Because instead of paying for the new product, you are just paying for the support and maintenance of it. That is probably one of the biggest things that I hear from most people, even at conferences, "Yeah, I would love to use UFT One, but we don't have a budget for it.""
  • "The pricing fee is good. If someone makes use of the solution once a day for a half hour then the fee will be more expensive. For continuous use and application of the solution to different use cases, the fee is average."
  • "The price is one aspect that could be improved."

    Overview

CA Service Virtualization acts as a catalyst for DevOps by simulating constrained or unavailable systems across the software development lifecycle (SDLC). This allows developers, testers and performance teams to work in parallel to accelerate app delivery, as well as to “shift-left” the app testing to improve application quality. CA Service Virtualization was previously known as LISA, the product from the ITKO acquisition.
