We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Data generation, data masking, and data subsetting are three key features of this tool.""The whole process is done by functions which are compiled on the source environment itself. Normally, you take the data from the source, you manage them - for example, mask them - and then you load this masked data into the destination. With this solution, it's completely different. On the source environment, there are functions compiled inside the environment, which means they are amazingly fast and, on the source environment, data are masked already. So when you take them, you already take masked data from the source. So you can copy them, even with an unencrypted pipe.""The masking of data has really been key for us to be able to replace PII with fake values.""I like the integration a lot. We use the test matching feature and the ability to make and find data.""There is other stuff that they are working on right now, and that includes things like the vTDM or Virtual Test Data Management. That is where they have the ability to do test data clones. It is really neat because after doing some of that creation, or if you are going to do some subsetting, then you have a great looking database.""The data generation is one of the most valuable features because we are able to write a lot of rules. We have some specific rules here in Turkey, for example, Turkish ID IBAN codes for banks.""The scalability is outstanding. We're able to scale it to any size of data that we want. We can do small data sets, we can do large data sets.""It allows us to create a testing environment that is repeatable. And we can manage the data so that our testing becomes automated, everything from actually performing the testing to also evaluating the results."

"The most valuable features are the structure masking and platform masking.""Informatica is user-friendly, stable, and scalable. These three aspects are the most valuable for us. If we can make it work well with the CRM, we can continue or try again this year to complete that part of the project. I am confident that this kind of solution is what we need because we have a third-party resource that works in the development.""Informatica Persistent Data Masking can mask production data for different users, ensuring that only authorized individuals can access sensitive information.""Informatica provides a comprehensive solution for on-the-fly or real-time data masking.""The most valuable feature is data discovery. This is the most exciting feature for all of the banks."

Cons
"The integration with various utilities is also really important. That still has to happen. That's a major area for improvement.""All financial institutions are based on mainframes, so they're never going to go away. There are ppportunities to increase functionality and efficiencies within the mainframe solution, within this TDM product.""I would request to extend the data source support because there are a lot of cloud-native SaaS-based solutions in the market. Like, Azure has its data sources, Amazon-specific data sources, and there are a lot of proprietary data sources outside as well. I recommend the team to expand the data source support.""It has a feature called TDM Portal, where testers can find test data by themselves, based on multiple models. They can reserve the data so that it belongs to one group or individual. Obviously, that data is not available to anybody else... This feature is for one environment. But if a different group of testers wanted that data for a different environment, they can't use it via CA TDM. That feature doesn't exist.""Needs a better fit and finish.""Broadcom TDM takes a long time to import documents, which wastes time that could be spent on other things.""They could make it easier to model databases, because right now it is really technical, so to train someone on it takes a while.""I would say implementing test data management requires a lot of effort and time...Even if you have experienced people, it takes time."

"The data discovery isn't that good yet for Salesforce. We have another tool that we use for this. It may be a problem because Salesforce on the cloud.""I have encountered some issues using the substitution, which is one of the techniques of data masking.""Informatica should simplify the rules for setting classifications and user access management permissions. It's too complex to define, configure, and make work.""Once the data is masked, we won't be able to reverse it back to its original value.""Informatica's support understands the solution, but they lack the experience we need for our use case. That was one thing that we prioritized when we started searching for this kind of solution."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It can be scaled for as many licenses as the customer is willing to pay. It's kind of expensive."
  • "Know all the data requirements before buying this product. There are a lot of features for this tool, which may or may not be useful to a particular company. Make sure of what your requirements for your data are."
  • "Part of the licensing is dependent on whether you want to use the portal. It's based on floating users. The other part is dependent on what type of system you are using. We are using mainframe, so we paid good money for a mainframe license."
  • "The cost of this tool is pretty high... CA provides licenses for different utilities like masking but even if you break it up, the pricing is still high."
  • "I would rate Broadcom TDM's pricing as four out of five."
  • "My company makes yearly payments toward the licensing costs. So, I consider the licensing costs to be expensive, especially considering what I have heard from my colleagues."
  • "Mainly, we compete with the IBM team and Informatica, and if you compare the license cost, Broadcom is too flexible. Depending on the customer's budget, we suggest they buy only respective SKUs, and it's much cheaper compared to others because we have gone over multiple deals where pricing was never a factor in differentiating products."
  • "The tool's pricing is high."
