We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Being able to use a Java-based solution makes the product flexible.
The interface and the number of connectors that they provide are the most valuable features. The support here, it's kind of okay. But the main thing is with the number of connectors and the UI, the user interface.
It has an open BPM
It allows me to present or to demonstrate the business process flow, visually, without having to resort to PowerPoint, Visio, or other products.
The speed and execution of DMN was a big selling point for us. It's very good at conducting business processes that are easily modeled and presented in a way that's easy to understand.
The solution is easily compatible with HTML forms and HTML language programming and that is the most significant part.
When I compare it with other BPM tools, like IBM, it is great, open source, and free when you use the community version.
The most valuable feature is the ability to share the logic within the rules engine with the business, so you can put it up for everybody to read.
One of the things that I have found most valuable is that it is very easy to use. For example, they have built-in existing processes that you can easily modify.
It's a powerful tool.
For me, what I find to be the most valuable is its simplicity and the association with Microsoft Office.
It has a built-in capability to capture process owners and managers against processes along with other process governance roles.
The business process discovery is excellent. The diagram or blueprinting functionality of the solution are very good. It's quite easy. You can link the sub-processes and get a big overview of the whole process then.
The solution is stable. All the refreshes run very well.
It has the ability to document in different formats. It is not tied to a specific model. You can look at it from different angles and see the intuitive nature of it. It always generates a valid diagram. You cannot create something that is not BPMN compliant.
It enables decisions based upon processes that we do model, and ultimately move forward with.
You can use if from your mobile device or you can be on the desktop. It doesn't matter. You are always connected. It is cloud-based, so you don't have to install anything.
The solution could use some enhancements like adding connectors, improving forms and having a mobile app, but everything is an enhancement rather than a flaw.
The support definitely can be improved. Apart from that, the language should be extendable to other platforms. If I want to write, I'll run a different platform, like Python code on top of it, or COBOL code on top of it, and it should support those languages.
Lacking in forms visualization.
If there were some industry templates it would have helped significantly, because it is similar to a process map for a domain. That is what we are currently creating, a domain-relevant process map.
Especially when you use the open-source version, there are issues with performance.
I would also like a very easy to use form builder.
I would like to have a feature for audit logging, audit logs and audit log management. And some history of use for the audit logs.
I would like to see the forms engine available in the open-source version of this solution.
At the moment there are very few people who can lead training for the product. I think that area needs to improve.
We don't like the user interface. It's complex. It's a powerful tool but it's complex to implement and requires a lot of manual work.
It is BPMN-compliant but the tool needs to be more involved to get into a completely 2.0 oriented tool. It has a few things but it's not the complete BPMN model.
The user interface is quite easy at first but process analysts soon run into roadblocks of limited functionality, which is disappointing.
The font size is really, really small and it's really not useful to print out process models because you cannot read what's written in different boxes. This makes it necessary for people to have access to the tool. We view licenses to see how the printing or output is. It's not very good.
The solution is a very basic discovery product so it doesn't have that much modeling capability. This can be improved.
We would like the ability to add additional custom colors. We would like to color additional items to add notes to the blueprint.
We haven't yet been able to dabble in case management with Blueworks Live, as it is not yet offered with the product.
The ability to create a very structured rule. With the capability that we have right now, Blueworks Live is more process focused. We should be able to enhance it to include a lot more of decisions as well.
