Quotes From Members Comparing CA OPS/MVS Event Management and Automation vs. Micro Focus Operations Manager

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
Valuable features include: SSM, which provides for orderly startup and shutdown; OPSLOG, which enables filtering by message-id, and/or jobname(s); Rules, as OPS/REXX interface streamlines deployment, interfaces easily with JES2 and z/OS.OPS/REXX is valuable because it allows us almost unlimited flexibility in automating our system.Once automatic IPL has been defined, anyone can perform an IPL with very little intervention. We know that all of the components will be started correctly.Because we can define complex commands, the training of new operators is quicker. We can also put checks in place, that will prevent user errors. It alerts the operators when it is time to repair the communications and the IPLs.I do not have to keep recordings. It is there and is proactive. It helps the operators, human editors, and me.The follow-up surprised me. Making sure that I am happy with what I have gone to them on. They will call after I have made changes and verify that I am happy with the changes that I did have to make. If it did not fix the complete problem, they go back over it until I am satisfied. The service has been wonderful. I like the people that I have had to deal with. The process is very straightforward. I call or use the website.

The Performance Manager provides great insight into our systems' performance. It has greatly reduced the number and duration of outages as support teams are notified immediately when something goes wrong or even before something breaks. The integration with the ticketing tool makes sure that there is a record for every issue. It allows us to build dashboards for individual parts of the business. Our team members appreciate that they can just get a view of their part of the world without having to worry about anyone else's.The most valuable feature is its ability to integrate with everything. The broad integration possibilities, I'd say, with any kind of product, are probably the most valuable feature.

Cons
The interfaces to USS, CA UIM could be better. CA Common Services interfaces - namely Zdata Mover, Zmessage Service, Zdatacolletcor - are poorly documented. One thing that comes to mind is the MQ interface. The last time we tried to use it, it seemed a little clunky.Performing a stop/restart of OPS/MVS could be a little smoother. Without special coding, some undesired tasks will be started and some necessary tasks will be stopped if we have to bounce OPS/MVS during the day. It’s a complex product. The initial installation is easy, but implementing various functions is a constant process. The GUI interface could be improved, but that is coming. They are working on that. The further expansion of the mainframe teamcenter interface. Also, the web services support is something that I am looking into.Because of its age, it's a little bit difficult to modernize some of the integrations and some of the functions. It definitely needs more web-based interface, to be more mobile-open. More APIs, more open source to it.

Installing and upgrading the HPOM and Operations Agent software is not always easy and the process can be quite fragile. Once it is running, it is very quick and stable, but an upgrade can quite easily break something or terminate unexpectedly.I know that in the next version, X1005, they're moving to more graphical overviews, which should help our senior managers. Our issues are largely support related due to where we are and the knowledge base that we have here. This issue relates both HPE in general and to the technical products. We are waiting for quicker release cycles. Also containerized upgrade, so that you don't have to bring a system entirely down to make a minor upgrade, in fact, or a minor patch.
