We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"There is a good amount of vendor certification which comes with the product. That's all factory-loaded, no need to load any custom-made files. Most of the metrics are calibrated and captured from the devices based on the defaults available from vendor certification.""When devices are having performance issues, it proactively build dashboards which allow us to go and do health checks, and resolve problems before they become an issue.""We're able to present data from multiple back-end collection sources into a single dashboard for the users. So they don't have to go to multiple locations to get data about a particular item, or device.""It saves time having it all on one place, so you do not have to jump around from different tools and try to merge the data. It is already done for you.""The ability to very quickly and graphically navigate around, being able to zoom in to a timeframe, apply it to all the other panels... are all very intuitive.""I can get it to run a report showing, for instance, what root drives are in the critical range in terms of being full, like 90 percent full, and disseminate that information to the other areas of the organization.""Scalability is the reason we bought the product to begin with. It was designed from the ground up for carrier-grade services, and we are in effect a MSP ourselves. So we were really interested in looking at something to be able to handle the multi-tenancy and scale as large as possible. This was the only solution that we really considered at that level.""You can create intelligent alerts so you have enough time to replace the router or interface before it's full. The same is applicable for CBQoS channels."

"This product has good network monitoring and troubleshooting capabilities.""Chain management is a good feature. I don't get it on other solutions.""Enables maps to be drawn out.""NetBrain is a very simple tool.""A reliable, time-saving tool for providing accurate layer 2 and layer 3 network mappings."

Cons
"This solution is not very scalable.""It could be a little easier to integrate new metrics.""I would like to have more tasks, graphs, and possibilities for linking to the graphs and reports added to the solution.""I'm not a fan of many extra features since they usually burden the software and reduce its reliability.""I have mixed feeling about the scalability. I feel like there are things which are being put into UIM right now that are not being included in Performance Center that we need to see in Performance Center. We are kind of being driven to buy UIM, and I can't justify it.""Since we are out of registered IP space, we are moving to ipv6 and we expect our vendors to move with us, and they have not delivered yet.""DX Performance Management should increase high availability. If one of my two data centers goes offline and the other is operational, I need a seamless transition from the primary to the secondary data center. It's crucial to maintain consistent monitoring of the devices during this transition. Therefore, I require continuous, 24/7 monitoring of my system using this tool.""The quantity of views which are tied to specific metric families is too high. Also, the problem is the view doesn't tell you which metric family it uses, so you don't know why you don't see data."

"It would be nice if the setup was a little simpler. Also, if the solution could provide more training materials for new people coming into our company so they can quickly learn how to use the functionalities.""Support needs to improve for the installed product and some of the reporting could be more flexible to provide more complete cataloging.""Each device needs to be configured to allow NetBrain to poll for the information it needs, which can be very time-consuming for a large network.""The IP interface brief isn't consistent.""The solution could integrate more automation."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "We were looking at other vendors in the marketplace for NetFlow, and CA just beat everybody else in price, cost, and the size to implement. "
  • "Do your homework and know how many devices you will be managing out of the gate. Be sure to project what your growth will be each year."
  • "They should provide more scalable licensing for the product."
  • "I like the licensing model because it's device-based."
  • "We purchase a license to use the solution every three years and we have multiple contracts. They have been increasing the price annually. We have a baseline for three years and then we need to pay the difference from the baseline, and we are in the process of negotiating a new price for all the licenses we need. The price overall is affordable."
  • "The tool's pricing is based on the number of network devices."
  • More DX Performance Management Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "The product is expensive, but less expensive than some of the competition and worth the price."
  • "Licensing is based on a per-device basis, which means that it can get very expensive if you have a large number of devices."
