Pros
"We can manage the entire system across the network and troubleshoot the pain points."

"It can be easily integrated with other systems and is powerful enough to collect data from a large number of devices.""You can have thousands of devices inside and hundreds of thousands of interphases without a problem.""The tool helps us understand network performance.""The integration with NetFlow, the NFA solution, so that we can have our flow forensics paired with the SNMP polling performance metrics on the same page.""The integration to the other products that we use: NFA, we use ADA, we use Spectrum; and CAPM integrates all those into a single pane of glass.""The ability to very quickly and graphically navigate around, being able to zoom in to a timeframe, apply it to all the other panels... are all very intuitive.""There is another component of the tool called Network Flow Analysis. It gives us the ability to troubleshoot issues which do not appear right away.""We're able to present data from multiple back-end collection sources into a single dashboard for the users. So they don't have to go to multiple locations to get data about a particular item, or device."

"The Slack integration is fantastic, and I've actually found it to be very useful recently.""The up-to-date graphs and the history are very good.""The most valuable feature is the ability to span multiple technologies and multiple vendors.""PRTG is simple to manage. First, you can create a template for a device, then apply it to hundreds of similar devices. That's a great advantage.""The most valuable feature of PRTG Network Monitor is the different monitoring probes available.""It is pretty simple to use, which is always a good thing. It's been very reliable in updating us if any issues crop up.""The most valuable feature of PRTG Network Monitor is real-time monitoring.""Ease of set-up – it is quick and easy to add a probe and start collecting data from a device."

Cons
"The Wi-Fi side needs improvement."

More Juniper Mist Premium Analytics Cons →

"Since we are out of registered IP space, we are moving to ipv6 and we expect our vendors to move with us, and they have not delivered yet.""We would like to be capable of reporting network performance with a report strictly focused on the times outside business hours, which CA PM does not currently support. We have discontinued the use of the Business Hours Filtering until CA engineers are able to resolve or offer guidance.""This solution's implementation process could be quicker. They could also optimize the hardware requirements.""This may be available by now but for server space, when it comes to the disk file system, I'd like to see that graphically represented, or the trend, rather than what I'm seeing now.""CA PM can be complex to build and configure. Creating the folders / groups / sites required establishing many rule sets.""When it goes through discovery, or whatever it is doing in the back-end that slows it down, sometimes we get some failures with it. ""We experience disconnections between the solutions own components.""Global synchronization errors. Sometimes it just doesn't finish in time due to the load."

More DX Performance Management Cons →

"I am not sure the solution is giving me all the needed feedback that we need. When something goes off on our IT infrastructure, it does tell me. However, it would be nice if it gave more intuitive information, e.g., the hard drive has gone up by 60 percent in an hour.""The scalability of this solution could improve as well as the automated provisioning of the infrastructure.""I've encountered a challenge in my functions, particularly in adding and printing.""The desktop app is the one area where it do with some improvement. From a user's perspective, I would like to be able to get more out of the desktop app as opposed to where we are now with it.""In the next release, PRTG Network Monitor should add a backup solution.""Performance-wise, PRTG Network Monitor still needs improvement because a large number of SNMPv3 queries reduces tool performance.""I wouldn't mind better categories for the sensors. When I go to add a new sensor for a new device, there are some categories in there already, and they can be filtered out, but there's quite a large pool of sensors... When I want to go in and find something quite specific, I have got to scroll down and scroll down to find what I'm actually looking for,""PRTG would be improved if it required less memory to run."

Pricing and Cost Advice

  • "We were looking at other vendors in the marketplace for NetFlow, and CA just beat everybody else in price, cost, and the size to implement. "
  • "Do your homework and know how many devices you will be managing out of the gate. Be sure to project what your growth will be each year."
  • "They should provide more scalable licensing for the product."
  • "I like the licensing model because it's device-based."
  • "We purchase a license to use the solution every three years and we have multiple contracts. They have been increasing the price annually. We have a baseline for three years and then we need to pay the difference from the baseline, and we are in the process of negotiating a new price for all the licenses we need. The price overall is affordable."
  • "The tool's pricing is based on the number of network devices."
  • More DX Performance Management Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Licenses are very expensive, so I would like to see cheaper licensing."
  • "If you're looking for a cost effective software I’d suggest this product."
  • "Sensors on free version can run out quick."
  • "The ability to use the base version with 100 free sensors is great. The cost on other packages can be very reasonable."
  • "When you buy PRTG, everything comes in one bundle. Licensing is very easy."
  • "The price was pretty good, very competitive."
  • "The pricing is not too bad. It's not massively expensive, and the ability to upscale or even downscale licenses every year is brilliant for us."
  • "On a yearly basis, I believe it's between £1,200 and £1,500."

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want using these, but they require quite some expertise before you can use them. Then there are the ones that are not open source, the enterprise softwares and cost you some money, but on the other hand, they are extremely easy to set-up and learn. You can have them up and running in a matter of minutes. And then there are those which are completely cloud based. They can be free of cost or charge some money depending on the software. The good thing about these is that you don’t have to install any extra software, and it can be managed completely online but then again these have limited features and you cannot exploit them to the full extent as you can do with the open-source and to some extent the enterprise software, so I won’t suggest you to use these, because these are generally not the complete solutions and require other support software to achieve the same. Below I have listed the outstanding pros and cons of the various Network analyzers that you can look into Nagios Pros: Nagios offers an extensive set of collector plug-ins that allows users to gather performance and availability data from a broad range of operating systems, including  Windows and Netware Nagios… Read more →
