We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It's very good out of the box, without configurations required.""Provides an overall picture, it gives you the ability to store your capex, capital and expense budgets, on projects.""Easy to use, visually. The new UX is intuitive.""It has been able to collect all the data, and in some ways, provide dashboards of aggregated data. ""The most valuable feature is the portfolio functionality because we have the ability to work with different scenarios and many kinds of financial management. We can integrate with ERP, and with other solutions from third-party vendors. The financial model in Broadcom Clarity PPM, it's the most valuable aspect.""The product is flexible.""Transparency and just having the ability to procure information that is pertinent.""The new UI makes it easier for people to go in there and know what to do. To train people, it's faster, more intuitive."

Cons
"The only real improvement from my side - I'm spoiled by things like Trello, with the very easy user interface, things like Basecamp - it's very much a static software project. If I was to focus on something it would be that user interface; making that something that is a joy to use, instead of something that feels like data entry.""The classic UI is very cumbersome. It can do everything but it's hard to use. It's easy to use once you understand it, but it's intimidating at first for somebody to see the solution.""In the timesheet UX, you can't do things like splitting time, managing overtime versus regular time, very easily. That would be helpful.""They need something so that if we, say, send some sheets to users, or for the scenario where not everybody has access to Clarity, but are part of planning; those people should be able to upload data directly to Clarity.""Whenever that second instance of Clarity came about, it was overwhelming even to people who were accustomed to working with program management tools.""One of the major pain points for me when it comes to Broadcom Clarity PPM is the new UI. The new UI is very good in terms of functionality and the drag and draw features, but it's not very responsive. When I say that it's not very responsive, what I mean is that sometimes, the tool is not very user-friendly. For example, a user saves a value on the form, but the tool doesn't give any indication to the user that the value has been saved. Some users are moving from the classic UI to the new UI, and end up getting confused because on the classic UI, when you click "Save", it'll save the information and you'll get an indication that it was saved. With the new UI, it auto saves the information, but it doesn't give an indication in the form of a popup box that "this form has been saved", or any type of message indicating that the information was successfully saved. It's been confusing for users who move to the new UI because of that. The users don't understand when the values are being saved or not being saved, even if there's an auto-save feature in the new UI.""The solution could improve the way the workflow is developed. I think they could be more dynamic because they are in a way static. They're very powerful, but they don't have any interaction with end-users.""Broadcom Clarity PPM should improve how the reports are being generated and contracts management."

More Broadcom Clarity Cons →

"It is a little rigorous in its methodology and is cumbersome. For example, I have a hard stop date and I would like a project to end by a specific date, but this is not how this solution works. It sorts of spits out the project date based on your resource availability, dependencies, and so on. This sort of project planning works in theory, but that's not always the case. It also relies heavily on resources entering their time into the system, that is, how much time they worked on each of the tasks so that it can sort of consistently update the project. I know that in a lot of organizations, including ours, it is almost impossible to get them to track the time. In terms of additional features, they can include more integration with Microsoft because integration is going to be a key functionality."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "For all the functionalities of the solution, the price is in the market range, since it is a product which offers governance issues and supports the digital transformation, which is where we will go in the next year."
  • "Better understanding of requirements and how it will be implemented (with number of licenses for a given budget) would help."
  • "It is a little bit costly compared to others, but it is mature. Customer should understand this product is geared towards project management, not financial management."
  • "It is hard for them to say, "I have a person on my team who is going to be available, I am going to move that task to them". That requires a project management license, it doesn't require a team member license, so the licensing model does not sometimes support the way the business world is going."
  • "We're also moving to the latest version for less than $20,000 for a major corporate system. It's just amazing."
  • "Broadcom Clarity PPM costs us $500K, and that's only for the installation and kick off within the first year. For each succeeding year, it could cost $200K."
  • "There are different licensing models with Broadcom Clarity PPM. With the software as a service model, you pay as you go, and if you are on-premises, you can buy a perpetual license and an annual fee for maintenance."
  • "Cost-wise, the tool is very expensive and some tools might be able to cater to 80% of the functionality provided by Broadcom Clarity PPM but are not as expensive."
