We performed a comparison between Broadcom Test Data Manager and Informatica Test Data Management (TDM) based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Test Data Management solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."There is other stuff that they are working on right now, and that includes things like the vTDM or Virtual Test Data Management. That is where they have the ability to do test data clones. It is really neat because after doing some of that creation, or if you are going to do some subsetting, then you have a great looking database."
"The solution has a portal where we can create data. We can also create synthetic data with the help of the product. We can use it to create a new data set in the database, eliminating many issues. The product helps with data accuracy and availability."
"What I find to be most valuable is its ability to do synthetic data creation. I love that because it has a lot of flexibility and you do not have to worry about one specific database or how you are going to manage all the data points."
"Broadcom TDM's best feature is the self-service portal."
"The whole process is done by functions which are compiled on the source environment itself. Normally, you take the data from the source, you manage them - for example, mask them - and then you load this masked data into the destination. With this solution, it's completely different. On the source environment, there are functions compiled inside the environment, which means they are amazingly fast and, on the source environment, data are masked already. So when you take them, you already take masked data from the source. So you can copy them, even with an unencrypted pipe."
"The combination of extract, mask, and load, along with synthetic data, is what is generally needed by any of our clients, and CA TDM has really good compatibility in both of the areas."
"It allows us to create a testing environment that is repeatable. And we can manage the data so that our testing becomes automated, everything from actually performing the testing to also evaluating the results."
"The scalability is outstanding. We're able to scale it to any size of data that we want. We can do small data sets, we can do large data sets."
"Informatica Test Data Management is a complete solution. I'm not very deep in the technical aspect of the solution, but most of the workflows are now completely automated. There are some minor elements where we have to still add manual parts to the implementation."
"Organizations working on different projects can benefit from this tool."
"The tool enabled us to leverage Teradata Parallel Transporter to write the masked data efficiently to our Teradata warehouse."
"I would request to extend the data source support because there are a lot of cloud-native SaaS-based solutions in the market. Like, Azure has its data sources, Amazon-specific data sources, and there are a lot of proprietary data sources outside as well. I recommend the team to expand the data source support."
"They should make the Portal a little more user-friendly, make it even easier to configure things directly from the Portal."
"As the solution continues to evolve, the one thing I like about it is the API-friendly layers that they have added into the realm. So, I just would like to see more support around that and more usability."
"It has a feature called TDM Portal, where testers can find test data by themselves, based on multiple models. They can reserve the data so that it belongs to one group or individual. Obviously, that data is not available to anybody else... This feature is for one environment. But if a different group of testers wanted that data for a different environment, they can't use it via CA TDM. That feature doesn't exist."
"We had one user that was primarily working on it, who probably spent a few months initially setting it up."
"A lot of research, data analysis, and work needs to be done on the source system in the tool which requires a data expert. This tool definitely requires a senior person to work on this issue, as it might be a challenge for a tester."
"We are using a specific database. We are not using Oracle or SQL, Microsoft. We are using Teradata. There are some things that they don't have in their software. For example, when delivering data, they are not delivering them in the fastest possible way. There are some things which are faster."
"The integration with various utilities is also really important. That still has to happen. That's a major area for improvement."
"Informatica has a data governance suite, and at the moment, there is no connection between the data governance elements, such as the data catalog, and the Informatica Test Data Management software. For example, the data discovery which is part of both solutions is two separate things. If you have a data discovery in the data catalog, then we cannot use it for Informatica Test Data Management purposes and vice versa. The same software vendor, has two different products, with the same functionality. There's was no need to separate things. This is something which was a problem in a use case of the customer where this was the reason why they didn't choose the Informatica solution."
"The UI experience is a little bit old. When applying more than 80 columns, it means doing it in phases, as it won't allow it in one go."
"Probably the ideal time testing site, utilizing self-service for real-time testing, could be an area for improvement."
