We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The solution has a portal where we can create data. We can also create synthetic data with the help of the product. We can use it to create a new data set in the database, eliminating many issues. The product helps with data accuracy and availability.""TDM allows us to find the right test data for the test that we need, and then it also allows us to get the required data inputs into our API test, so that we can do a full test.""The scalability is outstanding. We're able to scale it to any size of data that we want. We can do small data sets, we can do large data sets.""The solution is very user-friendly. For instance, if I wanted to create a project with Data Generation, Data sub-setting, Selective sub-setting, and Data Marketing, it can be easily done in TDM. And if you want to export these project definitions from one system to another, it can be done with just one click.""The whole process is done by functions which are compiled on the source environment itself. Normally, you take the data from the source, you manage them - for example, mask them - and then you load this masked data into the destination. With this solution, it's completely different. On the source environment, there are functions compiled inside the environment, which means they are amazingly fast and, on the source environment, data are masked already. So when you take them, you already take masked data from the source. So you can copy them, even with an unencrypted pipe.""CA is one of the few tool suites that has end-to-end features. Whatever role you are playing, whatever personality you are trying to address, it has that feature. For example, CA Service Virtualization goes hand-in-hand with TDM.""There is other stuff that they are working on right now, and that includes things like the vTDM or Virtual Test Data Management. That is where they have the ability to do test data clones. It is really neat because after doing some of that creation, or if you are going to do some subsetting, then you have a great looking database.""I have always gotten a call back within an hour from CA's technical support solutions and they are a wonderful team to work with."

"The tool enabled us to leverage Teradata Parallel Transporter to write the masked data efficiently to our Teradata warehouse.""Informatica Test Data Management is a complete solution. I'm not very deep in the technical aspect of the solution, but most of the workflows are now completely automated. There are some minor elements where we have to still add manual parts to the implementation.""Organizations working on different projects can benefit from this tool."

Cons
"The relationship between cables needs to be added.""There were some issues with initial setup. It wasn't as smooth as we had thought. We ran into a network issue, a firewall issue, things like that. It wasn't something we could not fix. We worked with CA support and with the client's team to fix it. But there were issues, it took a lot of time to install and configure.""Needs a better fit and finish.""There are different modules for masking. There is a portal and there is a standalone application as well. The standalone application is more old-fashioned. When you write rules on this old-fashioned interface, because it has more complex functions available for use, you can't migrate them to the portal.""We had one user that was primarily working on it, who probably spent a few months initially setting it up.""A lot of research, data analysis, and work needs to be done on the source system in the tool which requires a data expert. This tool definitely requires a senior person to work on this issue, as it might be a challenge for a tester.""Broadcom Test Data Manager is for data management. I would like to see some extension with data warehousing concerning ETL. It should also integrate with Jira or other reporting tools. Currently, after creating data, we update tickets and other information in various tools. This would enable us to attach relevant files or information to specific tickets.""When we publish a lot data into the target, sometimes it is not able to handle it."

"Informatica has a data governance suite, and at the moment, there is no connection between the data governance elements, such as the data catalog, and the Informatica Test Data Management software. For example, the data discovery which is part of both solutions is two separate things. If you have a data discovery in the data catalog, then we cannot use it for Informatica Test Data Management purposes and vice versa. The same software vendor, has two different products, with the same functionality. There's was no need to separate things. This is something which was a problem in a use case of the customer where this was the reason why they didn't choose the Informatica solution.""Probably the ideal time testing site, utilizing self-service for real-time testing, could be an area for improvement.""The UI experience is a little bit old. When applying more than 80 columns, it means doing it in phases, as it won't allow it in one go."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It can be scaled for as many licenses as the customer is willing to pay. It's kind of expensive."
  • "Know all the data requirements before buying this product. There are a lot of features for this tool, which may or may not be useful to a particular company. Make sure of what your requirements for your data are."
  • "Part of the licensing is dependent on whether you want to use the portal. It's based on floating users. The other part is dependent on what type of system you are using. We are using mainframe, so we paid good money for a mainframe license."
  • "The cost of this tool is pretty high... CA provides licenses for different utilities like masking but even if you break it up, the pricing is still high."
  • "I would rate Broadcom TDM's pricing as four out of five."
  • "My company makes yearly payments toward the licensing costs. So, I consider the licensing costs to be expensive, especially considering what I have heard from my colleagues."
  • "Mainly, we compete with the IBM team and Informatica, and if you compare the license cost, Broadcom is too flexible. Depending on the customer's budget, we suggest they buy only respective SKUs, and it's much cheaper compared to others because we have gone over multiple deals where pricing was never a factor in differentiating products."
  • "The tool's pricing is high."

  • "It's expensive because the license needs to be bought for some time period. It's not pay as you go."
