We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The ability to monitor any platform. We have Windows, Linux, AIX, and mainframe all being monitored with the same UIM infrastructure.""MultiWAN and Balance service""Monitors the infrastructure asset and also monitors as an IT service.""Great out-of-the-box capability.""You can integrate clouds, hybrid infrastructure, and on-premise infrastructure into one product.""The number of probes available. Out of the box, I believe about 200 probes are available. And, if there's a probe that is not available, you can write one. You can also go to the communities and suggest, and based on demand, CA will write one for you.""Latest version of tool comes integrated with Jaspersoft reporting solution, giving excellent reports.""Technical support is great."

"The feature that stands out for me is the simplicity and ease of use. That is what comes to mind when I think about the Prism console. You don't need to be a core technical person to manage a cluster. Everything is available in the console itself.""The ability to do snapshots is fantastic. It does a great job. Not only do snapshots work great, but you can take a snapshot on the fly. The snapshot takes a second to complete. You can then make a change and test it out to see if it works. If you have any problem, just roll it right back.""I like the general usability for general configuration. It is sufficient for everyday operations.""There are so many valuable features but Nutanix Flow for microsegmentation of the network, and the Life Cycle Manager for dating hardware and software are among the most important for us.""The features that I have found most valuable are its storage flexibility, linear scalability, and perhaps ease of use and powerful support.""We were impressed with Nutanix, overall. Some of the other main drivers for our switch to it were the simplicity of setting up our Nutanix clusters, ease of management, and that their support is very respected. There is an overall ease of use, compared to VMware. I'm sold on their product.""It provides a single pane of glass and the graphics and the presentation are quite good. It's quite exciting for me. I would rate it 10 out of 10. The user interface is pretty easy to use for compute and storage.""You can go directly to the Prism dashboard and it gives you all the information. It's easy to use. I have worked on other platforms but the single pane of glass that Prism has is very helpful for seeing what's going on in your environment: usage, storage, capacity, and behavior."

Cons
"The dashboards need to be improved.""The biggest feature that I've been hoping they would enhance on is inventory management: things like adding/removing nodes.""It needs a little bit more functionality in the Admin Console.""We would like the navigation of this solution to be more user friendly for our system administrators.""The company has not kept pace with developments.""CA UIM needs some improvement with performance reporting (if we compare it to CA eHealth).""Within this product there are individual probes, and each of these probes doesn't always necessarily output the same kind of information into our database. So when we try to collect what's called QoS data, from one probe we might get a ton of information, lots of good stuff that we can use in our database, but then from another probe, we might not get so much or we might not be able to pull the things that we want to.""We want to see more investment in the UI and the dashboard."

"The main area where an improvement could be made would be the pricing.""I wish the main landing page, the dashboard, could be organized in a way where, when there is an alert because something is wrong, I would not have to click three or four times to get to what actually happened. I wish it were quicker to get to the bottom of the problem.""Some of the products are not interoperable for multi-cloud or multi-site tasks.""In the next release, I would like the ability to browse data stores.""The replication we have does not have any backup systems built-in. We have to separate license records for backup, like onboard. We would like to have this in a future release.""The interface is good, but it needs improvements. There are a lot of functions that are only available in the CLI. In addition, some of the hardware components could be improved. We already had some trouble with disks.""Perhaps the interface can be more intuitive.""There are some things that you can only do via the command line. Over the years that I've been using Nutanix, they've slowly integrated those into Prism, but they're still trying to catch up with a solution that has been around longer, like VMware."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "This product is expensive compared to other vendors (SolarWinds, ManageEngine)."
  • "The product-price ratio is better than other brands such as Fortinet or SonicWall."
  • "The license cost depends on the number of probes and robots."
  • "Reasonable setup cost and licensing prices."
  • "CAD $400,000 annually."
  • "Customers pay for the license and the support."
  • "Pricing for DX Unified Infrastructure Management isn't cheap at all. It's a complex tool, so you have to pay more. No one is happy with a large bill to pay, but if it's a complex product and you designed a complex solution to be monitored, it'll be your fault that you need to buy an expensive product, and that would be implicit in the design of DX Unified Infrastructure Management. Monitoring is just a small part of it. Sometimes you have to pay a significant amount of money for a complex yet very good solution."

  • "A lot of my customers complain about the price of renewals, so I think that this can be improved."
  • "Compared to VMware, the price of this solution is great."
  • "Nutanix Prism is priced better than some of the competing solutions."
  • "This product is cheaper than using VMware."
  • "The license we bought for Nutanix Prism is perpetual, so once you have it, you can keep on using it. It's a three-year license that's paid one time. The license we have covers the three-node cluster."
  • "The license for Prism is costlier than other VMs."
  • "We have spent a lot of money on the Nutanix solution with Prism. Yet, for this amount of money we could be buying high-end storage with a lot of IOPS and bandwidth, even more than with Nutanix."
  • "Nutanix have bundles for pricing. On a single bundle, we get everything including vSAN or VMware and there are no additional costs. It is just a single license that is needed."
