Pros
The biggest feature out of CarbonBlack is its ability to dive in with more depth. You can look at the entire kill chain and understand, not only if an alarm or identified incident is truly a true security issue versus a false positive, and it allows us to backtrack and figure out why it actually happened and how it got into the environment. The data analysis is the most valuable because of the whitelist database. It is different than standard IDS solutions. It actually does some heuristics, and some behavioral analysis. The most valuable asset is the time-lining capability for any breach activity. This product has the capability of uploading scripts to the tool and this is a very comprehensive feature.Carbon Black Defense has a higher detection ratio because it's cloud-based and it also does a lookup to virus total. It gives you all of the information in a short and sweet fashion. The software uses very few resources; it is almost invisible to the end user.

It handles situations that the other threat management tools wouldn't find. It has worked well covering the weaker sides of the other products that we're integrating.Centralized dashboard online which can be used for managing a huge product.Even if an endpoint loses connection to the Internet, I know that endpoint is protected against 99.99% of the threats in the wild today.Specifically for a Windows domain environment, the product can be customized and pushed via GPO or SCCM without issue.Endpoints are protected in real-time without the need of a centralized server.Very easy to deploy. It can be done one by one or deployed by customizing an MSI file for GPO push. The CylancePROTECT agent is very low on CPU usage, so it has virtually no adverse impact on my servers, desktops, or workstations.Does malware analysis. Blocks WannaCry and other attacks that have come out.

Cons
Carbon Black needs to do a better job of proving their platform in the industry, and providing a bit more access to do industry testing with real world examples to help prove their platform. The UI interface needs improvement. The management needs further work in future versions. The tech support communicates, but it's just not with movement.I would personally give the tech support a rating of seven out of ten.Adding an application and a device control feature would be a great help for this solution.Report generation can be improved. But here, we hardly can take any kind of a report out of Carbon Black, so I think that should be something that should be more user-friendly.The directions for Splunk are spot on, but it is difficult to find anything on integration with AlienVault,

I would like to see a better UI in terms of sifting through more specific data and providing analytics. A little bit more would be nice.Work on the math model. We are catching a lot of false positives, which gets to be a pain at the start of a deployment. The management console needs a little maturity in how it presents data and allows the administrator to drill down or search across systems. It needs real analysis of quarantined files. The EDR product isn't showing much right now.

Pricing and Cost Advice
Carbon Black might be a touch more expensive than Symantec. They tend to get a premium for their capabilities. They're sort of an industry leader in a lot of areas with the functionality that they provide.I am not really involved in the pricing of this product. But, from my understanding, it is OK for us.The cost is a considerable factor, but the benefit factor is the most important. When you compare it with other products, the price is high. Carbon Black will negotiate the price. The cost/benefit factor has great relevance in Cb Defense implementations.

Our licensing cost for the solution is around $4,000 for six months. There are no costs in addition to the standard licensing fees.Shop around for sure and be assured the price you pay will be close to other solutions available, but even at a slight mark-up from the other solutions, you are getting real endpoint protection versus nothing more than a cheap security blanket that might keep you warm at night.Do not get hung up on price. You pay for what you get and expensive will hurt one time, where cheap will hurt forever, especially if you fall victim to a ransom attack, etc.The initial end-point cost may seem a little high (~$55/device/year) but when you look at the total peace of mind that the solution provides, with no reboots for updates, and negligible performance impact, it is well worth it.Review closely how many endpoints you actually need before buying into a pricing level. Deal and deal with the VAR of your choice.
