Comparison Summary
Question: Which is better - Signavio Process Manager or Celonis?
Answer: SAP Signavio Process Manager is a very robust industrial-grade business process modeling tool. It is easy to use and does not require too much technological involvement. This solution has a collaboration tool that keeps everyone up-to-date about what, why, and how to work. The workflow accelerator can automate repetitive work, ensuring teams can be more productive over time. The reporting on this solution can be slow, though, and SAP Signavio does not integrate very well with other solutions. We experienced some downtime and dropped connections, which makes the stability seem problematic. It would be better if it was more flexible on the customization point of view, where it displays only what the individual user needs to see. There needs to be a better way to give users correct permissions, eg. whether to design or view. Celonis is a very strong and powerful solution. It can process a large amount of data quickly and seamlessly. This solution is very intuitive and very easy to use. Celonis has a data mining tool that can identify cost differentials. It will also gather background data from different solutions and put it into the dashboard to review the price differences from previous seasons. Celonis can be very rigid and we would like it to be more flexible - it has some very strong structures that must be followed. The licensing model can be complex too. You need to have a lot of knowledge and skill to work with this solution. It really should allow for more customization to ease the process of working with multiple solutions. Conclusion Celonis is very specific to process mining and that is what it is best used for. You need to have a knowledgeable team, as this solution can be very tough to implement. It can also be very expensive. We were looking for a solution that was easy to use, was cost-effective for the size of our enterprise, and had a great performance. SAP Signavio Process Manager was the best fit for us.

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"I have found the automatic mapping of the processes themselves to be a valuable feature.""The solution offers very good division management.""The solution offers a very good user interface.""It is a very strong and very powerful solution. You can seamlessly process a large amount of data. It doesn't take a long time to do the analysis. It provides the analysis matrix, which basically includes all the analytics that need to be performed for the transactions. You can drill down really fast within graphics. You can double click and drill down to specific areas for more details. It is very intuitive and easy to use.""We have found the Orient Explorer to be a valuable feature.""The training material is good. The information is very systematic, detailed, and comprehensive. They have a training video for almost every single thing, which makes it easier to know how to use the tool.""Its usage is relatively straightforward after the UI is set up. There's a lot of pre-built analysis that can be utilized, which saves a lot of time. Overall, it is a good product.""With the help of data mining, we can identify different costs. Celonis does background research into the data from the different solutions and puts it into the dashboard and so we can see the differences between the pricing over the previous years."

"The collaboration hub, which helps us in terms of being able to communicate with our customers, brings everybody into the tool and close to the process, allowing them to comment and to implement their own processes.""The most valuable feature for me is the collaboration point of view, where everybody has a single view, or source of truth, and everybody sees the same thing. Everyone can comment, contribute, and discuss the processes itself, which makes it easier to funnel down the most value adding comments and make the relevant changes to the processes. This leads to the next best iteration or version of your process.""The fact that the repository is available on the web is the most valuable feature. It's a very simple tool. If you can use something simple and visual, you should be able to use the model as well in Signavio. It has the ability, for example, to track versioning control, so if you make updates to the processes, you have the ability to track the versions as well.""This solution is innovative and simple to use.""The reason we chose Signavio is it's a very robust industrial-grade business process modeling data tool, with data capture behind it, as well as a collaborative nature. A lot of it comes out of the box and requires less technology involvement. It can be run well by the business users. That's what we really like about it.""This is one of the best solutions and it is easy to implement.""I have done a lot of modeling over quite a number of years, and I think that the modeling capabilities in Signavio are state of the art.""All in all, Signavio usability is excellent. Anyone can learn to use the tool quickly. This increases acceptance as employees are not facing a high learning curve. With the offered usability it is easy to model processes also live in workshops."

Cons
"In the next release, I would like for them to integrate more custom features to ease the process of having multiple solutions. I would like to be able to integrate it with other solutions.""Similar to what SAP is doing with S/4HANA, Celonis should allow business users to create their own analytics tab. In my previous organization, business analysts were the only ones who were actively building these reports with Celonis, whereas SAP platforms are now allowing the business users to create their own reports with graphics and all other things based on the data that is presented. This is one thing that Celonis needs. Currently, just the technical teams are doing that. Sometimes, when we were looking at five years of data, it used to take up to 3 seconds. It wasn't bad, but we had to wait a little bit. It probably also had to do with the server. I don't know if it can be used on mobile devices. If not, that will be the way to go. They should mobilize it to allow people to see these reports on their mobile devices.""Essentially, the solution should allow for more plug and play instead of requiring a person to be adept at a certain level in coding and developing.""It would help if they had more integrations and automation features.""The price could be better, but complexity is the biggest problem. Celonis is quite easy to operate once the customizations are done. You need a large amount of skill and knowledge to work with the tool. You need to understand it and know more than the basics.""The solution needs to implement more automation aspects into the product. Right now, it's lacking.""It should be more flexible. It is not particularly flexible in the way it works, and it is quite rigid. It has some very strong structures that you have to follow. It could certainly be made more user-friendly to understand and should have fewer requirements for manipulation of the data to create the visualizations. We should also get better support from Celonis, and they also need to make the licensing model slightly different.""The Process Query Language (PQL) native language used in Celonis needs improvements. It has most of the process-related functions but we have queries from clients that cannot be done in PQL."

"There are a few bugs when you use the Microsoft Surface Hub with the big screen.""Moreover, the functionality to show different process variations with "views" could be improved to allow more customization of these views. I believe this would increase the user experience and administrative efforts maintaining these process variations.""We would like a better way to give users the correct permissions for processes, whether to view or design.""Part of the product that I think can improve is document control. That's currently not even possible. To work with documents we have something of a workaround using SharePoint.""I think the intuitive handling is an issue which they should be more focused on, especially as we have issues with the glossary. If you want to implement Signavio within procedures in contact with other software, it's quite difficult to integrate and you will have several points where you have to double and triple the work, because you cannot maintain the data centrally. With other solutions, we can integrate it and have only one data transfer, to import and export with other solutions. A glossary is still limiting us.""There are some small graphical bugs, but they are addressed immediately by Signavio to their product development team.""It's very user-orientated, which is why I gave it a high rating, even if it is not perfect in every corner.""The performance metrics appearing in the collaboration hub needs to be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"It is quite a significant investment. From a cost perspective, they need to reevaluate the licensing model. The cost is justified, but they need to make the licensing model slightly different.""I was not involved in that, but I am sure it was cost-effective for them. That's why they made the decision to take it.""Celonis is expensive. It's not for mid or low-sized enterprises because the license price is high. Overall, it's quite pricey compared to anything else that I have heard about. But the good thing is that they don't charge per user. They charge for the data model.""Evaluating the price of the solution can be a difficult question. It is all about the business case and the return of the investments. That is typically how we also see this type of solution. It depends very much on the return. The entry-level is focused on enterprise size companies, for the SMB segment is it is out of their range. It is definitely expensive.""The cost of the software for us or the client is on the higher end.""The solution requires an annual license. There is room for improvement because it is priced for organizations and not for individuals. For an individual, it would be too expensive for them to use it."

"We are only able to use the free academic licenses because we have a financial constraint. We are not able to pay for commercial licenses to use this kind of tool.""This solution provides really great value for the money.""I think we're spending about $150,000 a year on licensing costs.""I think that the price of the licenses is between $2,000 USD and $3,000 USD per license per year, plus the hub usage. I cannot remember the exact cost, but it is affordable.""SaaS has no setup cost, just licensing fees."
