We performed a comparison between Check Point Power-1 [EOL] and Palo Alto Networks NG Firewalls based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out what your peers are saying about Netgate, Fortinet, OPNsense and others in Firewalls."The most important features of Fortinet FortiGate are the Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) and firewall control applications."
"We are very happy with the general bandwidth agility we have seen from one website to another website."
"The interface is very good."
"The most valuable feature of FortiGate is FortiView which provides proactive monitoring."
"Easy to implement, and it is also reliable."
"Fortinet offers the latest versions to cater to the needs of enterprises."
"Their interface is very easy to use, it is without bugs."
"The user interface is relatively easy. The devices are easy to deploy and figure out when you have experience with other security appliances."
"The VPN allows users to connect remotely and securely."
"It is critical that Palo Alto Networks NG Firewalls embeds machine learning in the core of the firewall to provide inline, real-time attack prevention. In my environments, we have an integration with a third-party vendor. As soon as there is new information about new threats and the destination that they are trying to reach on any of our network devices, that traffic will be stopped."
"We like the fact that this product can provide multiple layers of protection depending on our clients requirements, and can be configured to whatever level of protection and the specific protocols that they want."
"The solution's most valuable feature is the robust firewall, which we can also use as a UTM device."
"I typically get involved with it when it comes to audit and compliance and having to gather evidence of those firewalls, routers, and rule sets. The evidence that I typically need is there."
"Their Prisma log collection is pretty great. Our product collects the logs, and it definitely makes the configuration of log collection easier."
"The first time I came across these firewalls, what surprised me the most was their web user interface. It is complete and gives you a lot of information. You can do 80% of the things related to your network and firewall through the web UI. In some of the other devices, the UI is not as complete. App-ID is also very valuable in customer networks. When you're seeing a lot of traffic in your network, you can see in your web UI which users have the applications that are consuming the most bandwidth. You have a broad context, which is very good."
"We have found the application control to be the most valuable feature. Also, Layer 7, because all other products are working up to the maximum capacity. But Palo Alto is benefiting us, especially in application control management. We are able to differentiate between Oracle traffic and SQL traffic."
"Everything is easy in Palo Alto Networks NG Firewall. It is very stable, easy to configure, and easy to upgrade. It is also very easy to create custom policies and applications. Everything can be done with the click of a button. It is also good for the protection of web services. Nowadays, they have a rather new DNS security feature, which is pretty good and functional. We did a one-month trial, and it is the best product for the firewall network."
"It could use more templates for third-party site-to-site VPN setups other than FortiGate and Cisco."
"The performance could be a bit better. Right now, I find it to be lacking. Having good performance is very important for our work."
"The solution could be more evenly structured."
"They should improve the interface to make it more user-friendly."
"WAN load-balancing could be a lot better at detecting when a link is poor or inconsistent, and not just flat out dead."
"Some of the web policy reports could be improved."
"I don't like that anything more than very basic reporting is not included."
"NGN, reporting and controls."
"Multi-factor authentication would have been a plus in security at the time."
"There is a bit of limitation with its next-generation capabilities. They could be better. In terms of logs, I feel like I am a bit limited as an administrator. While I see a lot of logs, and that is good, it could be better."
"From a documentation standpoint, there is room for improvement. Even Palo Alto says that their documentation is terrible."
"Its reporting can definitely be improved. I would like to have better graphical dashboards and more widgets for more clarity in the reporting area. In a third-generation firewall, you can generate some dashboards. It provides the information that we need, but from the C-level or a higher-level perspective, it is kind of rough and incomplete. Its data loss prevention (DLP) feature is not good enough. Currently, this feature is very basic and not suitable for enterprises. It would be nice if they can include a better DLP feature like Fortinet. We would like to have a local depot of Palo Alto in Latin America. Competitors such as Cisco and Check Point have a local depot here. If there is an issue with their hardware, you can go to the depot, and in about four hours, you can get a replacement device, but that's not the case with Palo Alto Networks because we need to import from Miami. It takes about two to three weeks."
"I would like to see better third-party orchestration so that it is easier for the team to work with different products."
"We would like to see the external dynamic list for this solution improved. The current version does not automatically block malicious IP addresses, which would be very useful."
"The scalability compared to other products is not good. You need to change the box whenever you want your number of connection sessions to increase."
"I would like the option to be able to block the traffic from a specific country in a few clicks."
"The solution needs some management tool enhancements. It could also use more reporting tools."
