Quotes From Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"The management from the switches to the hyper-convergence solutions are quite good and well-developed.""When we use it for VDI solutions, it is very easy to deploy and support.""The technical support has been helpful. We are always able to get through to the right person.""You can administer things easily. E.g., if you need more power, you can add a system.""The compression and deduplication are very high. Therefore, we can use the size of the product more efficiently than other storage solutions.""It consumes a smaller footprint when I compare it with other competitors.""The initial setup was straightforward. With our partners and the consultancy that we had, we knew what we wanted to do. Therefore, we didn't have any problems with the installation and parametrization.""It is a hyper-converged solution which integrates with the network instead of the product."

"It has solid performance and provides data locality.""It is a good solution and it is easy to work on their platform.""It consolidates our servers, and improves our electricity consumption and cooling as well.""The most valuable feature would be the ease of deployment. That is the most significant feature for me because I've worked with multiple vendors and it's always been very complicated to install the software and get everything running.""Best features are around data locality, compression, and deduplication.""The fact that there is only one interface to deploy a complete solution for maximum storage is fantastic.""I definitely find the reduced power consumption very valuable.""The most valuable features are its ease of use and its good performance."

Cons
"Cisco is a bit more challenging in terms of deployment. The admin must be knowledgeable in order to complete the task. Without that knowledge, it will be difficult to complete.""Cisco is quite expensive but not in the initial first buy.""The setup was complex, especially since we usually do all the planning, sizing, and workflows before integration.""Some of our customers do not want to adopt the Cisco ACI solution. They want to manage Cisco HyperFlex by integrating it with their own management solution.""There is a VMware plugin for HyperFlex, which sometimes it hangs up in our environment, and doesn't function well.""I would like to see them expand onto the cloud.""Sometimes when there are multiple technologies involved in a support case, this is when there is a bit of a lag.""The storage layer seems to be a little better on the VMware than on HyperFlex side."

"I would like to see a fuller integration with the public cloud. It would help the user enter the hybrid cloud infrastructure.""As of now, Acropolis and VMware cannot talk to each other. Until we have some kind of interface, it would be much better for Nutanix if they built an interface which can talk. Otherwise, if I have a VMware stack and I already have a Nutanix stack, I create containers, I create clusters on VMware, I create clusters on Nutanix. All of these clusters cannot talk to each other. Then it has to be then subverted as a parallel execution. What happens then is that I have to work in two different environments within my data center. Practically, they are two different data centers but physically and logically, they are one. If they cannot talk to each other that creates a lot of issues. That is something which Nutanix has to develop because for Nutanix it is very simple. For example, Oracle is using a function called GoldenGate. They have a feature called GoldenGate which allows them to talk to various different environments which must really help.""If we can have certified compatibility with other companies, such as Oracle, then it would let us know that they function correctly together.""The GUI for this solution needs improvement.""If they can simplify the software slightly for the installation, that would make all the difference.""We could always use a performance upgrade, or simplified management.""They have offered some new features that I have not deployed so I assume that these issues might have been addressed already, but, at my time there was a networking problem.""One thing I've noticed is that, when you do a shift from VMware to Nutanix, it opens the setup of the VM that's currently running. If people from another site double click on it, it opens the VM instead of the setup of the unit. So I would suggest that this could perhaps be switched. That is so far the only change I would like. I would like it if they could fix the instance where you double click on a VM and it opens the VM instead of the setup. That's the only thing that's a major bother to me."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"Cisco is quite expensive, but not in the initial first buy.""Pricing is better if you buy more Cisco products.""The pricing is a bit expensive.""For customers in the private sector, this product can have a very high return on investment.""If you don't look at the costs of the systems, the scalability is quite good.""The price is a bit high. It could be better, but the product is worth the cost.""I would like the pricing to be cheaper.""Comparable solutions with switches, storage, and services are cheaper than HyperFlex. It should be cheaper."

"Their technical support is really good. They have been very helpful.""There are a lot of features included with Nutanix that cost a lot with other companies.""They should lower the price. If they did they would fall into a more competitive market because the price does scare a lot of potential customers away when they get the quote.""Pricing varies greatly between license and editions.""Our licensing fee on the total setup up was about R900 000.""I think it's cheaper than VMware in terms of cost.""AHV is free! This is a great feature that should be taken advantage of."
