We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Integration with Microsoft clustering has been perfect, allowing us to leverage our investment in MS server licensing to the fullest.""It has reduced the amount of switching, network connections, etc., because the converged StarWind Virtual SAN allows us to connect high-speed network interfaces between different boxes instead of having to connect SANs via the network, then connect those two clusters together.""The management interface on the software is very simple. It is insanely simple compared to most SANs. The interface is also powerful when used to complete tasks that an IT administrator needs to complete.""StarWind has provided us with a top-notch, well-supported, robust vSAN offering when other vendors have moved to hyper-converged solutions that are outside of our average clients' reach from a financial and resource perspective.""The primary purpose of this software is to create a virtual SAN between local storage on Hyper-V hosts. I find this feature most valuable since it accomplishes this quite well.""The product creates opportunities with hybrid on-premise solutions.""Being hardware agnostic is a must and definitely scored points for us.""Starwind support is excellent. They are very fast and have very good knowledge of Starwind and Hyper-V Cluster software."

"The management from the switches to the hyper-convergence solutions are quite good and well-developed.""Deduplication is a valuable feature available in Cisco HyperFlex.""Easily facilitates remote work opportunities with storage and compute resources.""The feature that we are most interested in is the scalability. When needed, we are able to add more nodes and scale it up further.""The technical support has been very good for this solution.""The possibility to share the workload is one of its most valuable features. We have many applications which have need of workloads only a few times in a month, so we share HyperFlex with them.""The workload can handle anything and has an extended capacity.""The most valuable feature was the backup - it was easy to back up. It was also very easy to administrate and manage the system; much easier and faster. Finally, it was easy to extend the disk capacities."

"With its automated approach, nothing is missed on the IPs your organization is related to.""I rate the product's initial setup phase a nine on a scale of one to ten, where one is a difficult setup phase, and ten is an easy setup process.""One of its most effective features for risk identification is its enterprise-ready automation for third-party risk measurements.""The solution helps identify our environment's vulnerabilities."

Cons
"Geolocation could be better, for example, for site mirroring for DR purposes.""Updating the software can be a bit tricky.""Maybe in the future, the replication will be supported in more cloud providers.""When StarWind Virtual SAN for vSphere nodes go offline unexpectedly, the nodes have to re-sync disks fully which takes a long time. We had a power failure and when both nodes came online, VMware vSphere didn't see StarWind disks before I manually re-scanned them form ESXi administration console even though it should happen automatically""We ran into an issue with alerts.""Performance when in storage-separate configuration needs to be improved.""I'd prefer it if a remote console was provided.""The only way I can see this product needing improvement is the consultation level of the StarWind sales and engineers."

"Cisco's technical support originally was outstanding, but it has declined over the last 12 months. I've heard they're trying to do better, but I haven't been overly impressed with their support recently for HyperFlex.""The problem is that we always have to keep an eye out for new releases to make sure that the version we're running is up-to-date.""Maybe a better version is required to gather all of the information to allow HyperFlex to bring everything online more rapidly.""The initial setup can be complex.""The architecture separates data, computing, memory, and storage into different parts.""Technical support is very good. Not excellent, but good. There's still not enough data available on the web. For example, for the integration to VMware, I had a case recently and I searched for more information but didn't find any.""We are moving further out with more cloud solutions, so we need HyperFlex to be more cloud-connected. They should develop more connection to Amazon Web Services and Google cloud because our customers use their services and are moving in that direction.""It is quite new solution, so it is not very stable."

More Cisco HyperFlex HX-Series Cons →

"They could improve the process with a questionnaire module for the product.""There could be more information in regards to solving problems like hints on what specifically to look for.""SecurityScorecard's technical team's response time is an area that my company expects to be made faster.""The tool needs to have the ability to mitigate vulnerabilities with alternative solutions."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The setup cost is very low. The pricing is great."
  • "We are happy with the price."
  • "The license is reusable. We can always rebuild it and apply the license. Then, boom, we get new servers, apply the license, and we're back up and running."
  • "The pricing is fine for the work that it does."
  • "When we did all the analysis for StarWind, it was approximately 20 percent less than any of the other solutions that we looked at."
  • "The scalability limitation for us is its licensing. At some point in the fairly near future, we will probably have to upgrade our license so we can store eight terabytes instead of four. We are currently at four terabytes, but we're starting to knock on the door of that capacity."
  • "The pricing is excellent. It will run on anything. You don't have to buy a $100,000 server, with hardware you don't need. You just pay for the license and you're good to go."
  • "The licensing is a bit weird. If you license the standard version of StarWind, it allows you four terabytes. Then, they have a pro version, but with the pro version, the only difference is it doubles the terabytes to eight."

  • "Cisco is quite expensive, but not in the initial first buy."
  • "Pricing is better if you buy more Cisco products."
  • "The pricing is a bit expensive."
  • "For customers in the private sector, this product can have a very high return on investment."
  • "If you don't look at the costs of the systems, the scalability is quite good."
  • "The price is a bit high. It could be better, but the product is worth the cost."
  • "I would like the pricing to be cheaper."
  • "Comparable solutions with switches, storage, and services are cheaper than HyperFlex. It should be cheaper."
  • More Cisco HyperFlex HX-Series Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "The pricing could be split into a lower-paid tier for smaller organizations and another higher tier for others with a more security-focused outlook. $1000 per month is more than some companies pay for their internet connections in total. UPDATE: they have a new 400$ a month tier for starters."
  • "Even though it's competitive, they offer flexible pricing structures."
