We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Centralized monitoring, policy management, and virtualized appliances allow us to take control over our public and private infrastructure.""Security, SD-WAN, and Streetscape are valuable features.""The product is easy to use and is stable. The SV1 functionality is a benefit.""This solution has helped our organization by having strong functions and a reliable firewall.""The features that we have found most valuable are the SSL VPN and the User Portal.""The most valuable features of the solution are SD-WAN, filtering testing applications, web filtering, and the new VPN.""The most valuable feature of Fortinet FortiGate is load balancing. It can provide central management and VPNA. Additionally, it has enhanced our security environment.""The pipe filter application is an outstanding feature."

"The product's stability is good.""Completely integrates branch offices with perimeter security.""The product has valuable features for business intelligence.""The VPN connection portal scan works flawlessly, which was a big plus for us.""Cisco IOS allows us to keep the same security features as our principal offices.""The stability of this solution is excellent.""The solution effectively integrates with Umbrella.""I've found their network routing to be very good."

"The solution replaces multiple vendor technologies with one which makes it worth the cost.""Overall, we're very happy with our product.""The VPN is valuable, as the whole technology is very different from a traditional VPN.""The best thing about Zscaler Internet Access is the website filtering. In the UAE it's quite an important feature because most of the malware comes through the SQL injection and through downloads from websites. Zscaler helps protect against that.""The initial setup is very straightforward.""The initial setup was straightforward. The biggest thing for us was to build our own policies. The deployment itself was only a few hours.""Zscaler Internet Access's roaming user feature is most valuable and is much better compared to other secure web gateways.""One feature that is valuable to me from an implementation point of view is that it's very easy to implement."

Cons
"The firmware needs improvement because there are bugs when a new release comes through. Sometimes, the configuration changes, and it's a bit harder to see where the fail is. The first time that you have the firmware, it tends to have some issues, and it's better to wait a bit to update the equipment.""Fortinet FortiGate could improve by having more storage in the hardware for log data.""The logging details need to be improved.""Some of the features in the graphical user interface do not work, which requires that we used the command-line-interface.""Palo Alto has a feature called WildFire Analysis that is unavailable in FortiGate. WildFire is better than a sandbox because it can address zero-day threats and vulnerabilities. It can immediately identify zero-day threats from the cloud.""FortiLink is the interface on the firewall that allows you to extend switch management across all of your switches in the network. The problem with it is that you can't use multiple interfaces unless you set them up in a lag. Only then you can run them. So, it forces you to use a core type of switch to propagate that management out to the rest of the switches, and then it is running the case at 200. It leaves you with 18 ports on the firewall because it is also a layer-three router that could also be used as a switch, but as soon as you do that, you can't really use them. They could do a little bit more clean up in the way the stacking interface works. Some use cases and the documentation on the FortiLink checking interface are a little outdated. I can find stuff on version 5 or more, but it is hard to find information on some of the newer firmware. The biggest thing I would like to see is some improvement in the switch management feature. I would like to be able to relegate some of the ports, which are on the firewall itself, to act as a switch to take advantage of those ports. Some of these firewalls have clarity ports on them. If I can use those, it would mean that I need to buy two less switches, which saves time. I get why they don't, but I would still like to see it because it would save a little bit of space in the server rack.""It would be nice if FortiGate incorporated some built-in endpoint protection features. I would also like a built-in SOC dashboard for managing multiple Fortinet firewalls.""One area for improvement is the performance on bandwidth demands for smaller devices, as well as better web filtering."

More Fortinet FortiGate Cons →

"In the next release of this solution, we would like to see support for the 100BT and 7000 models.""The initial setup is complicated.""With respect to user-friendliness, it is a command-line interface and those with such experience will get along just fine, whereas others may struggle.""Cisco IOS Security could improve its security features. There are competitors that have some additional security features, such as Fortinet FortiGate. Additionally, there should be better synchronization with Cisco IOS Security and other vendors, and improved AI features would be beneficial.""The configuration should be easier in the solution.""I think they should bring back remote VPN for users.""In the security portfolio from Cisco, the issue is marketing. Cisco is still seen primarily as an enterprise network player rather than being acknowledged as a security vendor.""An area for improvement in Cisco IOS Security is the performance because it's not as stable sometimes. There's also some latency in the solution, which could be improved. Cisco IOS Security integrates with other solutions, but you'll encounter many errors after integration, so this is another area for improvement. I'd like to see enhanced performance and a simplified setup in the next version of Cisco IOS Security."

"Zscaler should provide adjacent services, which would be complementary to their current offering that could to be more pragmatic for a customer. For example, if you take Akamai, you get multiple sets of services, all depending on the customer and the strategy and the complexity and the problems. In some areas, they are more varied in terms of coverage.""The performance needs improvement. Some areas create performance issues and, depending on the use cases, require reconfiguration to perform again.""The solution can be improved by advancing some of the newer technologies such as the DLP feature, and adding email security.""Sometimes it's not easy to use during large deployments of workstations.""The pricing is an issue. It is expensive if you have all of your users in the same location. It is expensive compared to other firewalls on the market.""Technical support could be better.""The reporting functionality could be a bit easier to use. There is a reporting function, but it's quite hard to do any good reporting, from a user-management perspective. For example, if a department manager wants to know how his department is using the web, there is a way to get the data, but it's quite cumbersome to get it and show it well. And that's true for comparing between departments.""It also needs better integration with other applications as well. There are some restrictions."

    Reviews from Real Users

Below are some reviews and helpful feedback written by Zscaler Internet Access users.

A Service Manager at a construction company says, "There are a bunch of different capabilities that are valuable within the platform. We use quite a lot of them, but not everything. The ones that are most important to us are the URL Filtering and the application control. For our needs, the cloud-native proxy architecture is a very good solution. This architecture helps with cyber threats because we inspect most of the traffic and we can see that a lot of threats are stopped directly in the secure web gateway."

Owen N., Security Architect at Claro Enterprise Solutions, explains that the solution’s most valuable features include “The integration of the gateway that inspects all ports and protocols. So, there is threat prevention; The cloud sandbox; VNS security; Access control that will protect URL filtering and the cloud firewall; Data protection that will protect your gateway, like your CASB or your cloud DLP; The capabilities of this will point your traffic to Zscaler Cloud.”

An Architecture Senior Manager at an insurance company mentions, "The data loss prevention feature is the most valuable. It stops our users from inadvertently leaking our customers' data to the Internet or anywhere else it shouldn't go." He also adds, “The solution provides quick access to cloud services, securing our data and allowing us to inspect all our traffic.”
