Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"When one server fails, we can attach the service profile to a new server, which saves a lot of time.""Technical support has been good so far. We haven't had any issues with them. We're satisfied with the level of service they provide our company.""What I like most about Cisco UCS Manager is the ease of administration. It also allows the central management of maintenance, installation, and configuration activities.""The management is one of the most valuable features of this solution.""The interface is ergonomic and native. We can use UCS Manager to do all the configurations for the servers, including storage, networking, and all the other components we need inside the fabric. It's simple and flexible.""The hardware is very powerful and it is a stable solution.""The most valuable features are flexibility and management.""From a usability and functionality perspective, Cisco UCS Manager is very good."

"The most valuable features are the dashboards and tracing.""The most valuable feature is application monitoring.""The solution is scalable, and it is easy because all the documentation is available.""The tool's most valuable features were APM and core reliability. We get alerts whenever an anomaly is detected. The solution is very friendly.""Support for plug-ins (RMQ, Redis etc.) is a valuable feature.""They have baseline level alerting.""The product allows the developer to see the actual problems in the applications.""The stability of New Relic APM is very good."

Cons
"The pricing can be better.""The solution's pricing is high and could be reduced.""I would like to see Cisco UCS optionally work as a hyper-converged system because right now, it only operates as a converged system.""The automation within the solution needs to be simplified.""The integration with other solutions could be better. I think Cisco can only integrate using Intersight. There is a second interface available as a SaaS platform, in the cloud, or on-premise. It's based on the Redfish protocol, which is standard for all the B-series servers in the market. We can integrate other solutions using API.""There is room for improvement in the software part of Cisco UCS Manager. It should be more user-friendly, especially when creating policies.""We have three data centers and if we could manage all three data centers using one interface, it would be great.""What's lacking in Cisco UCS Manager is the performance dashboard. If a blade has any performance issues, you should be able to create a dashboard on Cisco UCS Manager. Currently, this feature isn't present."

"There are times when you restart the engines and the servers have a unique ID for the host and you need to remove the server. It is difficult because some are on-premise and others are production hosts. Having downtime is not very good when updating. However, it is not a constant issue.""I haven't come across any features that are lacking.""The browser isn't exactly reliable.""The initial setup can be made easier. Like Mixpanel, New Relic can also have a step-by-step guide for the setup process.""There has been some problem with the agent, and it is just not working well. It is not able to record information with the application server. They have been able to fix the issue, but it took quite a long time. This is the main issue in the APM products and also in New Relic. The mobile application monitoring has been pretty difficult to set up and also quite expensive. It should be a little bit easier and cheaper. Because it is pretty difficult and expensive, many customers don't take it.""New Relic APM can improve the information when we dig deeper to check a problem. There should be more detailed information provided.""One thing that we noticed was that historical information was only for a limited period, which was not helpful in certain scenarios. For example, if I want to size my system for an event for New Year or Christmas season based on the historical data, I won't be able to find the historical data. Currently, the data is limited to three months. It would be helpful if they can provide historical data for a longer duration so that we can plan our system accordingly.""The monitoring is only as good as the alerts that it produces. By having it set up fine grain alerting, it is a bit of a pain."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "With product discounts which can be negotiated, the product is a great value."
  • "You buy the hardware and then you get Cisco UCS Manager for free."
  • "The pricing for Cisco UCS Manager is okay for its market, so it's a four out of five for me."
  • "Cisco UCS is more expensive than Dell and HP, but it is more reliable. I see less issues and it's quite stable."
  • "Cisco UCS Manager’s annual licensing fee is expensive."
  • "We need to take a license for each port, which amounts to a big sum."

  • "New Relic is either free with low retention and minimal functionalities, or expensive with full options and retention."
  • "The monthly cost os $1000 per server per month, but it could be even more. We pay about $250 for the server, and then New Relic wants over $1000 to give us statistics on those servers."
  • "Cost is significant with a lot of extras."
  • "It would be nice if we could buy it annually instead of monthly."
  • "If it’s the right tool, it doesn’t matter what it costs because you’re going to get it back many-fold from your productivity."
  • "I recommend using the free version of New Relic. If you like the free version and understand its importance for your company, you can move to the trial. Then, you can migrate to the paid version."
  • "There is a picture which goes to your browser and it monitors requests from other users. However, it's impossible to use now because the price is very high. The feature is very nice, but I tried it during the trial period, and the current price makes it impossible to use."
  • "They gave us aggressive discounts when they were brought in for the first time, but they have also kept them for the year-on-year renewals, which has been absolutely fine."
