We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Content Switching provides flexibility for routing traffic as desired to designated real servers. It also provides good geo capabilities through its GSLB feature.""SSL Offload""The MAS integration for HDX Insight has provided teams with significant visibility into network performance of the user's connection.""I find all of it to be valuable, because of the flexibility that is built into this product.""Citrix NetScaler offers robust security features, including SmartAccess and customizable policies, making it a reliable choice for safeguarding user data.""One of its most valuable features is fundamental load balancing, supporting both basic load balancing and database teams.""The feature that I have found most valuable is its load balancing.""The solution is very stable."

"The solution itself is perfect. It's easy to configure and we haven't had any initial issues with the hardware or power supply.""There are several levels of module so a company can upgrade if necessary.""The most valuable feature is the vertical scaling of the application infrastructure.""The most valuable feature is the SSL upload."

Cons
"We are looking for some in-depth monitoring and analytics and more information that Citrix Director doesn't provide. ControlUp has insights that not only give you an overview but also allow you to do some drill-down troubleshooting for what's going on in your environment. We are looking for some more analytical and monitoring data to be able to monitor the environment better, not only from an application standpoint but also from the standpoint of the infrastructure to everything it sits on. They can provide more data to the administrators about what's going on within the application. They can provide data not only on the application side but also about what the application sits on. They're making strides with Citrix Analytics in regards to that.""We had some bugs in the previous firmware. These were not big issues, but more testing on the firmware would be key to happier customers.""We would like the licensing model for this product to be improved, as it isn't currently very transparent. There isn't a standard package available, and each extra feature creates an additional cost.""There is room for improvement regarding the pricing policy for Citrix offices.""Citrix ADC can improve if it provides a more user-friendly interface and clear working protocols. Citrix is not working with classic RFC, it is working with Citrix RFC, which is not common in the world. If engineers of Citrix can provide us with more information on working with the classic IP networks it would be a benefit.""Reducing the overhead required for AppFlow data collection, specifically for HDX Insight, would be a huge improvement.""Overall the price of Citrix ADC could be more competitive.""The product provides some templates to integrate with applications like MS Exchange, MS SharePoint, SAP Enterprise Portal, and others. However, the last update for these templates was 2013 (lots of applications are running on versions newer then 2013)."

"The pricing for this solution should be reduced so that it can be more competitive.""The initial setup is complex but it is manageable.""It's unfortunate that the network firewall isn't really a next generation firewall.""It's hard to scale down the solution. You need to buy another product in order to do this."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It's not for startups or SOHO."
  • "Costly product and complicated licensing."
  • "It all depends on the features that will be used and the number of accesses."
  • "It is true that it is a bit pricey compared to newer technologies coming to the market. For example, A10 is a load balancer that does everything that Citrix can and it does a lot more than what NetScaler does when it comes to the security space, and their prices are so cheap. Every box comes with its own license and support built into it. When you compare that with NetScaler, you have to buy licenses separately, you have to buy a support agreement that is going to be separate. A small NetScaler, even if it is a VPX which is a virtual server, could cost you close to $150,000 to $200,000 dollars. So the pricing is really high."
  • "We have been evaluating F5, Citrix, and other ADC products. Citrix is the most expense of all of them."
  • "We are quite happy with price. It's not too high."
  • "I do not have any experience with the pricing of the product."
  • "You get the value for your money. There aren't any hidden fees."

    Reviews from Real Users

Citrix NetScaler is a solution that stands out when compared to many of its competitors. Some of its major advantages are that it is easy to use, is robust, and has good load balancing.

A Senior Citrix Engineer at Troye, says, “The web application firewalling component is probably the most powerful feature as it can identify attacks on the network at an application level which is quite important. There is also good functionality where we use IP reputation and geofencing to mitigate threats from the outside world.”

“The feature that I have found most valuable is its load balancing,” explains a Security Consultant at a tech services company.

Timur G., Team Head of Network Security at DOM.RF, writes, “The most valuable feature of Citrix ADC is its ease of use.”

Another PeerSpot reviewer, Nirav S., Technical Solutions Architect at MindTree, mentions, "Compared to other solutions, Citrix ADC is much more robust in terms of the native integration to cloud platforms. It is far more robust from an operational point of view as well."
