Pros
Helped us a lot with load balancing.Very stable. For desktop application management, I recommend the NetScaler edition. This product is like a Swiss army knife. Citrix NetScaler ADC supports the education front-end.I can turn on features without actually owning a license. I can test them out, I can use them for a while, and then I can be licensed up. That's awesome. I don't have to have a license immediately before I can start to deploy things rapidly, rapid deployment is a plus.It has helped us to increase the resiliency of the application and the performance. It is the best product out there.Scalability is great. One of the best features of NetScaler is that it can scale out. This solution allows the user to easily scale out application delivery, and provides secure remote access.

Cons
Technical support sometimes takes a little longer because of the multilevel ticket priority.Does not include security. A web application firewall would be a nice addition.Citrix should improve the documentation. It is not really clear how to set up many features to our advantage. When we setup Citrix NetScaler ADC, we have to figure it out by ourselves without a lot of documentation.I would like to see them make it easier to do some of the more complex things. For example, a web re-direct requires two pieces to it. You have two ports and when people want to go to a web page, they just type in the webpage that on the backend it will redirect them to a secure link. The initial setup of that is cumbersome because you have to do it twice. There are things that can be replicated. The IP address, for example, is the same. This change would go a long way. Don't make me do it twice and don't make me have to read tons of documentation to figure out how to do it. Ease of configuration for some of the more complex processes would be a good improvement. The technical support has room for improvement. It can be difficult to setup.I would like to see more integration for single sign-on.Should offer more flexible cost-effective licensing for small to medium sized organizations.

The auth website of ESP is really lacking. It’s not responsive (mobile friendly) and the procedure of changing the website is difficult. We tend to avoid using pre-auth for that reason.Several elements of the GUI need work. For example, if you have many content switches, it’s difficult to find the ones you need. And where is the search feature? If you want logging for SMTP traffic, you have to enable ESP, which requires you to define allowed IP addresses. That’s irritating, to say the least. It lacks an officially supported, well-written SCOM Management Pack. They need to improve the UI environment. Currently, it's hard to navigate and use product. Some documentation is out of date versus the new version, and things have been moved.SNMP and/or RESTCONF management, in order to collect many counters, for plotting in a central application need to be improved. Some of the support documentation seems to make assumptions that the person installing or configuring is experienced with the product or concepts.

Pricing and Cost Advice
We have a yearly licencing fee, and there are no additional costs.Ninety day free trial makes it easy to try out this solution.Licensing is adequate. I wanted to have a more prominent license, but until I do they don't give enough support. The additional cost would be too much.NetScaler does the same thing as an F5 and it's cheaper. You get the value for your money. There aren't any hidden fees.I do not have any experience with the pricing of the product. We are quite happy with price. It's not too high.We have been evaluating F5, Citrix, and other ADC products. Citrix is the most expense of all of them.

It has a great price for the solution they offer.I have control on the licensing and all the prices since I work for a partner.KEMP gives away free trials for 30 days. This can be stretched if you want. During the test, you will have access to KEMP support. It has a very attractive ratio of price/performance.Download Kemp's VLM trial and take it for a test drive; you will be impressed.
