Most Helpful Review
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:
It's a complete software that can protect all the main applications. Perhaps that's the feature I like most. The integration with the NetApp and other apps is also very nice.
It's very stable.
We are using a KVM system in our cloud, and this solution works very well with it.
It's the leader in backup and archiving.
It is much more scalable and flexible than everything else in the market.
In the VM, we have Live Recovery, Live Mount, and Live Sync.
Global deduplication and the indexing of the data object are the most valuable features. It saves costs on the product side by doing compression and deduplication. It will help you and make your life easy to reach the data that you need within the minimum downtime when it's required.
It's an enterprise product. It's a stable product. We have good support. Almost all databases are in the scope.
Provides connectivity to a lot of different cloud storage solutions.
It has allowed me to implement a cost effective, highly configurable solution.
General ease of use and performance of the Windows version is the most valuable feature.
Client-side encryption minimizes worries about data being captured on the back-end.
Block level transfers have significantly reduced the amount of time for transfers over some other solutions
The ease of failover and test environments has proven invaluable.
I really like how you can test the failover as often as you need.
The ability to perform DR testing to ensure data integrity is critical.
The ability to have a RPO of seconds has enabled us to restore data to just before an incident has occurred, which certainly saves a lot of time and money.
We now have the ability to replicate critical data to a secure, off-site location that can be brought back in seconds if needed.
Implementing this solution has given us sandboxing and the ability to move VMs.
The ability to fully test your entire environment without actually performing a failover is invaluable.
It has enabled DR protection for virtual appliances with minimal administrator time.
I think the one thing that could be improved is the customer experience. The interface should be more user friendly.
The back of virtual machines needs improvement. I know they're working on it. They're always doing new things but I think they still have a little bit more to do.
This solution can be complex and difficult to administer because it supports all of the many platforms, so it would help if they could simplify it.
Its competitor, Veeam, includes backup and replication in the same product. I don't know if Commvault has it or not, but they should if they don't.
Support for this product needs to be improved because I have seen a couple of cases where it is taking more than the required time to solve issues.
We previously had difficulty with the support being foreign.
The setup is not that straightforward or easy. Even the documentation is not generic or public like other products. You have to be a partner or you have to have a specific account and download it from the vendor themselves.
You need quite a lot of human resources to maintain a Commvault environment, to keep it operational. Also, it would be nice to if there were an easier way set up some Commvault components.
Maybe implement an easier interface for basic users. For example, a set-up wizard with all the commonly used features as default.
The Linux GUI leaves a lot to be desired. It lacks many of the features of the Windows version and is buggy, but it is still usable.
The interface feels like it is targeted for end users who typically are looking for an all-in-one integrated push button solution. It would be better if the interface had a beginner mode and an expert mode.
I would like to see better notifications when the sync is off for an extended length of time.
I think Zerto could do better with size planning because it would be nice to analyze a server for a week and give an estimate on sizing the Journal.
Increased granularity in how long to keep the journal would be nice.
We have had issues with licensing, where the license we've been given by Zerto support doesn't include VSS replication, which was a pain at the time.
The email alerts can be excessive, so better control over frequency or resolution may be a worthwhile improvement.
The backup functions are in need of improvement.
There needs to be more flexibility in the licensing.
It would be helpful if the reports can be generated periodically, on a schedule.
Pricing and Cost Advice
The price could perhaps be lower as well.
In my experience, compared to solutions like Veritas and Veeam, while they do have their technical pluses and minuses, Commvault can save you on average forty percent initially, and then twenty to twenty-five percent annually.
Compared to other competitors and vendors the pricing is fair.
It provides a good cost savings compared to our previous cloud backup.
We have a very good return on investment.
Pricing is reasonable although can be quite a large upfront cost.
The cost is not dirt cheap but also is not terrible.
We found that in an event that was massive enough to cause an entire cluster to go offline we would be happy with our core services up and running.
You are getting what you pay for, as this is a solution that requires minimal management after it is configured.
While we find the twenty-five VM license somewhat inflexible, the actual setup costs are minimal as the product is so easy to install.
The solution is very cost-effective and very easy to set-up but does not compromise on features.
We believe the pricing, setup costs, and licensing are easy to understand. The pricing seems very reasonable.
It's a little bit expensive.
Licensing is VM based so you can buy packages or single VM. Price is not low but the power of application is high, so you will get your money back.
