We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Security tools: Being able to monitor data going in and coming off our endpoints. Seeing what it is and where it's going is awesome.""Backup and recovery have been great, but I love having the ability to keep the hybrid type build which they offer.""It required very little ongoing maintenance once setup.""Code42 Next-Gen DLP is scalable.""Risk factors can be adjusted for all intricate details.""The solution is very stable. Very rarely do we have any issues with it. We don't have to deal with bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. We find it to be reliable.""It had the ability to preseed by sending in a data drive and could restore by sending the user a data drive.""t has a very user friendly status bar with common errors and has logs built in to the console so we can review the issues or status of CrashPlan."

"Its ability to cover a large spectrum of products and operating systems is invaluable. We evaluated other products but always found certain limitations like some products had only intel-based virtualization, while others had power servers.""Deduplication is quite efficient. It is not a complex product. It is quite simple.""This is a complete solution, everything is under one console.""The solution offers the hardware and the software at the same time.""I like the virtual server backup.""I can rely on this product if I need a restore.""Best feature is its three-tier backup.""What I like most is it is a professional product. It supports all kinds of technologies, and I consider it one of the best backup products available."

Cons
"What I think could be improved is how I get support.""In a couple of instances, we had a little bit of trouble in getting it distributed throughout the organization. We ultimately managed to do it, but they talk about it being a pretty simple process, and it became a little laborious. It would just turn away. The agents were not being distributed. It was just churning and churning and churning. When we were looking for specific categories of data, it was getting bogged down, but that was not even so much Code42, although some of it was their issue.""The application, written in Java, required far more system resources on a Client than other solutions.""More security would be nice, I would love to be able to remotely brick a stolen laptop and it's hard disk drive (HDD).""Due to recent changes that effectively abandoned an entire segment of their user base, I no longer trust nor can recommend Code42 products.""I would like to see more flexibility on privileges, perhaps create another kind of admin for regions. Also, I would like the ability to access logs without having to be on the actual device or a super-admin.""There doesn't seem to be any feature that is lacking.""You can't always filter out data that you'd like to."

"I think reporting can always be improved.""NetBackup is a very old product, and it is based on Linux, which is not user-friendly.""I have been involved in upgrades. They have not been straightforward. Some of them have required us to make changes to our architecture and production environment.""The interface should be improved.""The HTML interface is a web application that does not offer all the features.""The only pain point we have with this solution is the cost. It's very expensive. In fact, it's so expensive we are looking for other platforms. We want to move away from it in order to save our organization costs.""Veritas NetBackup has been in the backup and recovery market for quite a long time, but somehow, from my own observations and from feedback from end users, its user interface is lagging behind other comparable solutions such as Veeam.""The product could improve the user-friendliness and comfort of its environment, especially for those unfamiliar with it."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "They were the best solution and surprisingly enough, the cheapest."
  • "It is 100% worth the cost to get and keep the support, especially when setting it up."
  • "It used to be a good solution for SOHO in particular as it had unlimited storage for a reasonable price. However, their pricing model has changed and they are now primarily targeting enterprise users."
  • "The pricing is reasonable. It's my understanding that the cost is about $7 for unlimited storage in the cloud per server."
  • "It was expensive. It was more expensive than Eureka, and it was more expensive than Barracuda Backup, but what we got was a full team. They didn't come in and nickel and dime us. They provided the assistance we needed. They didn't say that they need to charge us for something or it is going to take another statement of work. It was all bundled into it... We pay for the software maintenance. It is probably 18% or 20% of the license fee for rev releases."

  • "Licensing was very expensive and did not scale well if needed to move between license models."
  • "Smaller virtualized environments will want to stick to a traditional licensing model if possible. It will likely be cheaper, but it is a pain to manage all the individual licenses for each client."
  • "So far I can only say that the license structure could be looked at to be aligned as either capacity-based or traditional."
  • "If you have a complex environment with dozens of different servers and apps, I recommend you look for TB licensing."
  • "The software and license are very expensive."
  • "Pricing is pretty costly as compared to the other products but worth investing for the long term and high ROI."
  • "Acceptable if you need to implement it for larger environments, e.g. over 1000 clients. For smaller setups it might be too expensive."
  • "The licensing model is cost-prohibitive as you scale out."

    Reviews from Real Users

Mahdi B., Solution Architect and IT Consultant at Merdasco - Rayan Merdas Data Processing, says, “Veritas integrates well with the cloud, all databases, all operating systems, all hardware, and all software. Veritas also has solid malware and ransomware protection features. From time to time, we face a new kind of attack, and Veritas has always proven to be the best protection solution for some of my customers. Our customers who have faced ransomware attacks were able to recover their data in less than one day without any stress. Veritas is ransomware resilient and because of its implementation, it is not dependent on the operating system to work. Most of the functions of the Veritas software are isolated from the operating system and it's not dependent on the operating systems involved. This is very important. When some of our operating systems are infected by a virus, Veritas still works perfectly and protects our data. This feature is very well implemented in Veritas NetBackup.”

A PeerSpot user who is a General Manager at a comms service provider relates, “Veritas enterprise has many agents who perform the backup, whether it is a consistent backup or recorded backup. The solution has everything from the snapshot to the multiple database agents.”

Mir-Ali, Infrastructure Manager - Oracle SCM at a financial services firm, shares, “It covers all kinds of different architectures. Plus, it's very user-friendly and it is very reliable. Reliability is the most important thing because once the backup is done, if it is successful, then we're sure that it was successful and we will be able to restore it.”
