We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"Cohesity is extremely easy to use and intuitive.""We are very satisfied with the product as a whole—all the backup functions, the data protection functions. We are very satisfied with those, and the product is very simple to use.""With the ability to stage an entire lifecycle through versioning, integrated with AWS, it has made it possible to protect our corporation from end to end.""Cohesity's web-scale architecture enables us to scale up as needed.""Instant recovery options are a big benefit for urgent restores, as we don't need to wait for hours or days for a restore to complete before being able to access the files.""The most valuable features are the rapid VM restores and the ability to quickly find files and download them directly to my desktop so that I can put them where I need them to be.""The most valuable features of Cohesity DataProtect are SpanFS and the handling of hybrid workloads.""The ease of use and the GUI have really been most valuable to us. Configuring the system to do what we need is simple and straight forward and a lot of guesswork has been removed. One of my favorite features with Cohesity is Kroll for Exchange item-level recovery. The software is simple to use and fast."

"Every product is good and bad, but its claim to fame is that it is scalable. We're doing more than 3,000 VMs. Every single night a complete image backup to disks and replication are easily done in under four hours.""The solution is very stable.""The installation process is pretty straightforward.""The product is very powerful and offers very good performance.""The backup and recovery speed is very fast.""We've found the product to be stable.""I have found the product to be scalable.""The solution is very stable."

Cons
"I'd like to be able to pause a backup while it's running and have it resume when I tell it to resume.""We would like it to have more capabilities for different kinds of PaaS or SaaS services in the Azure cloud, such as Azure SQL or Azure Cosmos DB.""The GUI is in need of improvement.""Features I would like to see include a more visible data lifecycle monitoring tab, and an easier to read backup status dashboard.""Cohesity cluster upgrades have not been as easy as a single button click. They are a manual process that requires upgrading each node into a cluster individually.""In terms of what could be improved, it just needs some maturity.""Many of the reports are basic, at most, and at times we had to open a support ticket to help find or develop a report for our needs.""I would like to see the management of multiple nodes inside a tenant. If you want to manage a Cohesity environment, you either go on a per-node base, and you can hop from one node to the other, or you need to implement their SaaS capability but it always needs an internet connection. We would really like to have some kind of local management entity so that we can see all the Cohesity nodes in a customer environment and manage those nodes centrally. That's something that we would really like, and they are really working on it."

"When you get down to doing certain things, such as somebody wants a particular file restored, the process by which you do that is stupid. You kind of have to know exactly where to look for in order to find it. Even on older backup products that I've used, I didn't have that kind of problem. If we were looking for a file with a particular kind of a name, the solution would find that file anywhere irrespective of where it resides within the backup system. So, we didn't have to know the name of the specific server, the specific timeframe, almost all the characters of the file name, and all kinds of data in order to find a file. In Avamar, we got to know these details. We've gone around and around with them on that, and their attitude seems to be that it is working just fine. There is nothing for them to improve. The organizational system of other products that I'm working with, such as Zerto and Cohesity, seems to be centered around the tasks that you would most commonly do and want to do, as opposed to we've laid it out in a really neat technical hierarchy.""Technical support should be more knowledgeable.""It is very scalable, and that's its claim to fame, but that also makes it hard to make changes. Anytime there is a large piece of software, changing that piece of software is harder. You've got a larger install base, so you can't just rapidly change. We also use another product called Veeam, and it has this new feature called Continuous Data Protection, which basically lets you get very close to the way the system was in time. We have a system or two up there on which we have set 10 minutes Continuous Data Protection. So, we can roll it back to whatever it was 10 minutes ago, 20 minutes ago, or 30 minutes ago. This feature doesn't exist in Avamar Data Domain. That's the one feature I'd like to see first.""It would be better if we could integrate easily with other platforms.""It's an expensive solution.""Interfaces need to be improved.""The user interface needs to be improved. It's not as good as it could be.""Compared with Cohesity or Rubrik, which have some continuous data protection for backup and replication, this solution tends to lack in this area."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"It has reasonable pricing, and we know they can give discounts. If you look at the primary pricing or the list pricing, it conforms to the market pricing, but you have to have a discount on it. Otherwise, it is way too expensive.""The pricing model is impressive and very effective.""Sizing is important and it is easy to overestimate.""My advice is to always negotiate for better pricing.""With respect to pricing, make sure that you look at both Rubrik and Cohesity as they are very similar and are quite competitive.""The solution's pricing is quite high, more so than that of its competitors, Veeam, Veritas and Rubrik.""Pricing, setup costs, etc. are pretty typical. The initial cost for Cohesity was less than other products the we evaluated. Cohesity's pricing does offer benefits as DR target costs are less than other solutions. You are not charged for DataProtect licensing for target DR data consumption.""I expect the system to probably pay off within the first two years."

"The price of this product should be lower.""The price is fair.""There is a license required for this solution.""It is easy to use.""It is expensive. Its cost is the main thing.""Licensing fees are paid annually.""The cost of the solution is very expensive.""Licensing was generally on a per VM or terabyte basis. They changed their licensing model a couple of times and turned it into socket-based licensing, which is an improvement in their licensing model."
