Pros
It has a lightning fast restore. The spin-up of a VM within a test environment for backup testing along with quick restores. It's completely reliable and easy to restore.Cohesity is a cost-effective storage designed for secondary or archival data. It also integrates well with a number of other systems, like VMware, Pure Storage, or AWS with its large array of APIs available to the user. The four independent node cluster architecture is redundant. It maintains data integrity and load balancing. We are saving valuable datacenter rack space, which is critical as we evaluate co-location options. We are looking forward to the next release, so we can take advantage of the AHV backup for our Nutanix environment.Backups are quick and painless to set up.

The really amazing feature about Veeam Agent is that when you're using the central deployment model, you can actually use the instant VM recovery feature, which is really a pain point that I find some days. The solution is very user-friendly and has an easy to use interface. We can manage it easily. It allows for a simple backup. The initial setup was straightforward. It's not complicated. It takes around half an hour to implement, but it depends on the performance of the server that you are installing the backup software on.It's most compatible with VMware. It can restore single files instead of having to restore the whole machine, once again leading to savings for the company. The solution is very simple. Management of the platform is so simple that we don't need to have any training to deploy this solution. The ease of use for the graphical interface and the ease of installation are the most valuable features of this solution. The Veeam Backup and Replication Suite is very user-friendly.

Cons
Microsoft Exchange online mailbox backups would be fantastic.Since it is an evolving product, there are lot of frequent releases which require upgrades to be done every other weekend. The support team could do a better job. Sometimes finding the correct person is cumbersome and time consuming.Physical RDMs on virtual machines could be a bit easier to configure and plan out.The rack mounting instructions did not appear to be correct, but we were able to overcome it.I would like to see Cohesity have the ability to do a file level restore from a Windows server, which is storing data on dynamic disk.A little more documentation on standard faults would help, as new features are being released quite often. We are waiting on the AIX agent to be released.

It would be much better if more applications were supported on the Linux side. For example, their agent for Windows not only can back up the Windows machine, but it can also back up Active Directory for granular restore, SQL servers, Exchange, Oracle, SharePoint, etc. When it comes to Linux, only Oracle databases are supported. There are workarounds, though. In terms of the physical environment, I'd like them to integrate it with other kinds of solutions. We don't just work with Microsoft or Linux, but other kinds of infrastructure data as well. It's scalable, but it's not scalable on every platform.Scalability, if you are talking about Linux, is good. However, if you need to backup more types of solutions or Unix systems, like HP/UX, AIX, etc., it's not compatible. It could use deduplication features. In new releases, I hope they can support Oracle cloud.

Pricing and Cost Advice
Ensure that you understand the per TB licensing model. Also, Exchange backups are not native to Cohesity and require Kroll.Cohesity came in at the best price.Cohesity came in at the best price. Setup was included and done in half a day.Licensing is per node and per protected terabyte. You will also pay 10-15% annually for support. If SQL is in heavy use at your location, I would highly recommend narrowing your PoC testing to Cohesity and Rubrik. They will be competitive on pricing with each other, so really put them through the paces. The ROI is huge. Not really measurable at this point, but the price of the unit was a fraction of what a couple hours of downtime could result in.

It's a subscription based license, which is started on a yearly basis. Currently the licensing is split between three editions: standard, enterprise, and enterprise plus. As long as you check the comparison between the additions and make sure that you have what you need, there are no extra costs with Veeam.Licensing costs are $300,000 USD yearly, and we pay for three years at a time.
