We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
We are using a KVM system in our cloud, and this solution works very well with it.It's a complete software that can protect all the main applications. Perhaps that's the feature I like most. The integration with the NetApp and other apps is also very nice. It's very stable. It's the leader in backup and archiving. It is much more scalable and flexible than everything else in the market. In the VM, we have Live Recovery, Live Mount, and Live Sync.Global deduplication and the indexing of the data object are the most valuable features. It saves costs on the product side by doing compression and deduplication. It will help you and make your life easy to reach the data that you need within the minimum downtime when it's required. It's an enterprise product. It's a stable product. We have good support. Almost all databases are in the scope.

It makes our administrators' lives much easier to combine backup, archiving, and services like hosting file shares in one central system with only one user interface.Instant volume mount and the SpanFS filesystem itself, which has great dedupe and compression across all of our backups. This solution is easy to manage. It has a lightning fast restore. The spin-up of a VM within a test environment for backup testing along with quick restores. It's completely reliable and easy to restore.Cohesity is a cost-effective storage designed for secondary or archival data. It also integrates well with a number of other systems, like VMware, Pure Storage, or AWS with its large array of APIs available to the user. The four independent node cluster architecture is redundant. It maintains data integrity and load balancing.

The most valuable feature is the instant restore option. The user interface is good. What I find most valuable about this solution, is that the user experience is very simple. The technical support is good. The really amazing feature about Veeam Agent is that when you're using the central deployment model, you can actually use the instant VM recovery feature, which is really a pain point that I find some days. The solution is very user-friendly and has an easy to use interface. We can manage it easily. It allows for a simple backup. The initial setup was straightforward. It's not complicated. It takes around half an hour to implement, but it depends on the performance of the server that you are installing the backup software on.It's most compatible with VMware. It can restore single files instead of having to restore the whole machine, once again leading to savings for the company.

Cons
This solution can be complex and difficult to administer because it supports all of the many platforms, so it would help if they could simplify it.I think the one thing that could be improved is the customer experience. The interface should be more user friendly. The back of virtual machines needs improvement. I know they're working on it. They're always doing new things but I think they still have a little bit more to do.Its competitor, Veeam, includes backup and replication in the same product. I don't know if Commvault has it or not, but they should if they don't.Support for this product needs to be improved because I have seen a couple of cases where it is taking more than the required time to solve issues. We previously had difficulty with the support being foreign. The setup is not that straightforward or easy. Even the documentation is not generic or public like other products. You have to be a partner or you have to have a specific account and download it from the vendor themselves. You need quite a lot of human resources to maintain a Commvault environment, to keep it operational. Also, it would be nice to if there were an easier way set up some Commvault components.

I would like to see Microsoft Exchange DAG supported as soon as possible.Reporting is one area that isn't as robust as it could be.This solution is only compatible with a limited number of storage arrays, including Pure and Cisco Hyperflex.Microsoft Exchange online mailbox backups would be fantastic.Since it is an evolving product, there are lot of frequent releases which require upgrades to be done every other weekend. The support team could do a better job. Sometimes finding the correct person is cumbersome and time consuming.Physical RDMs on virtual machines could be a bit easier to configure and plan out.The rack mounting instructions did not appear to be correct, but we were able to overcome it.

We are currently waiting for the continuous backup process.I would like to be able to install Veeam directly to Linux instead of having to go through a Windows server. In the next version, I would like to see an increase in the locations online. I have found that other products have good pickup location. It would be much better if more applications were supported on the Linux side. For example, their agent for Windows not only can back up the Windows machine, but it can also back up Active Directory for granular restore, SQL servers, Exchange, Oracle, SharePoint, etc. When it comes to Linux, only Oracle databases are supported. There are workarounds, though. In terms of the physical environment, I'd like them to integrate it with other kinds of solutions. We don't just work with Microsoft or Linux, but other kinds of infrastructure data as well. It's scalable, but it's not scalable on every platform.Scalability, if you are talking about Linux, is good. However, if you need to backup more types of solutions or Unix systems, like HP/UX, AIX, etc., it's not compatible. It could use deduplication features.

Pricing and Cost Advice
The price could perhaps be lower as well.In my experience, compared to solutions like Veritas and Veeam, while they do have their technical pluses and minuses, Commvault can save you on average forty percent initially, and then twenty to twenty-five percent annually.Compared to other competitors and vendors the pricing is fair.

We purchased support from Cohesity to ensure that should we face an issue, we don't have to deal with different service providers.Ensure that you understand the per TB licensing model. Also, Exchange backups are not native to Cohesity and require Kroll.Cohesity came in at the best price.Cohesity came in at the best price. Setup was included and done in half a day.

The costing is very competitive. The solution is rather expensive and I think the price is too high. It's a subscription based license, which is started on a yearly basis. Currently the licensing is split between three editions: standard, enterprise, and enterprise plus. As long as you check the comparison between the additions and make sure that you have what you need, there are no extra costs with Veeam.Licensing costs are $300,000 USD yearly, and we pay for three years at a time.
