We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Commvault is a very stable product.""We switched to Commvault because we were looking to centralize management. This reduced IT administrator time as well as providing stability and reliability for data backups in a single console.""Commvault integrates well with all types of operating systems and supports heterogeneous environments.""The product is a reliable solution.""The features I find most helpful in Commvault are its ability to perform incremental backups and significantly reduce backup times for our diverse multi-architecture, multi-environment environment.""It's the leader in backup and archiving.""What I found most valuable in Commvault Complete Data Protection is its deduplication technique, mainly because the solution has the highest deduplication ratio, giving you higher storage capacity.""The solution provides us with a single platform to move, manage, and recover our data across on-premise locations. Some of the guys have been using it to move a virtual machine from VMware to the Microsoft solution, Hyper-V. They back it up and then they restore to the different virtual machine provider, and that works great."

"This is a user-friendly solution.""The most valuable feature of the solution is that the tool provides good value for somebody who needs an affordable and reliable storage solution.""Currently, VTLs can only be created on individual service sets and cannot be used to share the resources of other nodes.""From a centralized system, I can manage the interface, the backup policies, and the status of the database.""HPE StoreOnce has high performance.""The solution's most valuable feature is its catalyst mode, along with better performance, backup, and recovery.""Deduplication is the most valuable feature.""The initial setup is simple."

Cons
"The product's migration process and stability need improvement.""The integration of Metallic could improve. It would be a benefit if Metallic could integrate with multiple applications or platforms.""The reporting could be improved because the reports we get from our partner aren't sufficient. It isn't very detailed. I'm not sure if it's an issue with our partner or Metallic. They do a full backup on Monday and incremental backups throughout the week. However, we don't get detailed reports about the size of the incremental backups. The report just tells us whether a backup was successful.""I would like to have a manager-level dashboard to review the backups. This is not from an administrative perspective where you can see the details of the execution. Rather, it would only show the percentage of completeness for each one.""Commvault has two management dashboards. The first is the CommCell Console, which is Java-based, and the second is Command Center. We don't always find all the features we need in the Command Center and we need to go through the Java console, and sometimes features are only on the Java console.""In an upcoming release, the reports could be better.""There is room for improvement in terms of data security.""Could be easier to implement."

"The solution would be improved if it could also be used as a data store for VMware.""I would like to see better integration with Veeam software.""I would like to see an emphasis placed on making data deduplication and compression more powerful.""The solution should continue to refine its integration capabilities. I also see they are starting to use cloud integration as well, which is good, but they should do more to integrate with it.""The latency is a bit high.""The user interface of HPE StoreOnce should be more user-friendly. Additionally, the configuration and troubleshooting could be better.""HPE StoreOnce needs to be made cheaper than products from Dell and Veeam.""HPE StoreOnce should come with a detailed installation guide."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "If budget allows using the per socket license and not the agent based with per GB counter for Dedup is the way to go."
  • "There is now a subscription based licence option that, depending on your environment, could offer a more efficient method to licence the solution if you are OPEX cost driven rather than CAPEX."
  • "New licensing is easy and affordable."
  • "Licensing could be better explained. Sometimes, it's unclear what features are available in different licensing models."
  • "Compared to other competitors and vendors the pricing is fair."
  • "In my experience, compared to solutions like Veritas and Veeam, while they do have their technical pluses and minuses, Commvault can save you on average forty percent initially, and then twenty to twenty-five percent annually."
  • "The price could perhaps be lower as well."
  • "Our cost is around $20,000 per month. The previous year, it was around $30,000 per month. It now costs less because Commvault changed the licensing type for providers."

  • "The price puts me off. It's definitely on the high side."
  • "To be honest, we were quite happy with the price, but we always want things cheaper than they are. I think for what we got, we felt that the price was quite reasonable comparing it to other products that provide that same level of functionality."
  • "There are costs for additional storage and space."
  • "Price-wise, it comes with a high price tag when compared to other products."
  • "The cost of HPE StoreOnce is very expensive."
  • "We have got a perpetual license, and we have access to all the features. If you are using cloud banks, you can store the internal data in HPE Cloud if needed. You can offload the data to the HPE Cloud. It is a licensed product. We have got around 10 TB of cloud bank storage with a one-time payment. We specifically took 10 TB for very critical offsite backups. We can also increase it in blocks if needed."
  • "The licensing schemes could improve in HPE StoreOnce and the price is high. They should reduce the price."
  • "I think the product is competitive in terms of pricing. Other products like the one from Dell are costlier compared to the tool."
