We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
Backup and archive with a single window, with a single backup job. You only need to type "c".Cloud integration.Great archive feature, OnePass, for the file system and Exchange servers.A very stable and scalable platform (you can backup/restore/protect a couple of MBs or hundred of TBs as well from the same console/platform).One-Pass (Archive) DataBase backup (Online Backup and Granular level restore), VM backup and restore.Provides SAN snapshots for write intensive applications and large datastores, such as SharePoint.Well documented SQL views and customizable reports, together with scripts and workflows provides ability to automate processes and ensure proper controls are in place. The cloud integration is a massive win for us, giving us a single backup service for all of our on-premise and cloud systems.

The deduplication engine. Right now, we're at about 10.5 to 11 times deduplication of our backup data. You can store backups for a while. The flexibility. Being able to virtualize it, port it wherever I like, test my backups, test my DR capabilities whenever I like without impacting anybody. It's pretty simple. Once you set it, it goes; and then the idea of being able to get it to the cloud very quickly. It's kind of a set-it-forget-it.Most importantly is having that island into that datacenter, and being able to address things in the same console. Thus, it is irrelevant where it's stored.Being able to move data seamlessly from one-premise to the cloud (Azure). It works great. The backup solution is perfect for us.

Cons
I just wanted to compare the features, which are there in EMC NetWorker, which are not available in Commvault. We have things using Networker.Training.Reduce the complexity for better understanding of the reports. There are a lot of variables in which you can get confused while elaborating on reports.Endpoint backup.Initial setup and configuration of policies can be quite involved.Mostly controls, visibility, cost allocation. The new HTML 5 based management portals are very nice, but do not yet have all of the features of the Java based client.Bare-metal restore needs some work. It's not intuitive and seems to have been an afterthought.

I really want to partner it with the SnapCenter. We haven't implemented that yet. We're upgrading all of our stuff to the ONTAP 9, which you had to have.More than a 500 volume limit. At the moment, it only supports up to 500 volumes for SnapMirror and that's a problem. We've got 750, so a larger limit for volume replicas for SnapMirror. What could be helpful is different user base authentication so then maybe we could allow different customers to point to a single appliance and they only see the backups and things that they have. There are some bits it could do better. With tighter integration maybe with Veeam, or something like that, it'd be really good.More capacity with the basic model of the AltaVault would probably help out.

Pricing and Cost Advice
Licensing could be better explained. Sometimes, it's unclear what features are available in different licensing models.New licensing is easy and affordable.Cost is a major negative. CommVault costs a lot. There is now a subscription based licence option that, depending on your environment, could offer a more efficient method to licence the solution if you are OPEX cost driven rather than CAPEX.If budget allows using the per socket license and not the agent based with per GB counter for Dedup is the way to go.

The pricing is not too bad, but could be a little better. It's quite cost-effective.
