Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The solution provides us with a single platform to move, manage, and recover our data across on-premise locations. Some of the guys have been using it to move a virtual machine from VMware to the Microsoft solution, Hyper-V. They back it up and then they restore to the different virtual machine provider, and that works great.""Well documented SQL views and customizable reports, together with scripts and workflows provides ability to automate processes and ensure proper controls are in place.""Commvault integrates well with all types of operating systems and supports heterogeneous environments.""The solution’s user interface for managing the on-prem environment is good.""We now have the capability to recover a virtual machine without relying on the NFS system, but instead are able to use certain features provided by Commvault.""We can go from one page to another page, from office backups to VM backups, or applications like secret backups. So everything can be configured or restored from a single pin.""We recommend this product for people who are running the Oracle Virtualization Manager.""Great archive feature, OnePass, for the file system and Exchange servers."

Cons
"The setup is not that straightforward or easy. Even the documentation is not generic or public like other products. You have to be a partner or you have to have a specific account and download it from the vendor themselves.""My customers are not satisfied with the tool because there is a little trouble with the throughput of Metallic.""It takes a lot of technical expertise to implement. Commvault could increase the training it provides to customers and partners.""Its dashboard could be improved to provide a summarized version of all the jobs instead of having to go through each one of them. We should easily be able to glance at all issues. If I had not gone with the on-premise version, I would have had regular reports with the cloud version. It would be an advantage if they increase the compression rate of the backup. I am keeping it on-prem, so I'll need more disks depending on the policies that I have in the retention period. Its price could also be lower. If a good solution can be cheaper, it is always an advantage.""The HTML interface is a remarkable improvement. However, there are still some features that are not available in that interface that are available in the Java console, but I'm sure that will come with time.""I would like to see some of the code execute a little bit better when I add new licenses and assign licenses to users. I'd like to see that information update a little quicker.""Our main pain point is that some of our hardware is old. For example, the SSD disks for our application database are slow. It's hard to avoid a slowdown in our environment because the size of our backups is growing every year. If you're growing and don't upgrade the environment, you will see slower backups and restores. You must enhance the environment if you are growing.""There are two ways to use it and I prefer the web-based one over the app. I wish they were a little bit more matched in what they offer because the features aren't as available in the web-based interface as they are in the app."

"My past experience with the Nuix eDiscovery platform showed it was clunky when reviewing individual files and viewing folder structures. I wondered why we had to process in Nuix eDiscovery and then transfer to another review platform, this was a waste of time. I wish Nuix eDiscovery would have a comprehensive review platform in-house. I heard they have improved in this area, but our firm hasn't invested in it. Integrating the processing and review would make for a fantastic solution."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "If budget allows using the per socket license and not the agent based with per GB counter for Dedup is the way to go."
  • "There is now a subscription based licence option that, depending on your environment, could offer a more efficient method to licence the solution if you are OPEX cost driven rather than CAPEX."
  • "New licensing is easy and affordable."
  • "Licensing could be better explained. Sometimes, it's unclear what features are available in different licensing models."
  • "Compared to other competitors and vendors the pricing is fair."
  • "In my experience, compared to solutions like Veritas and Veeam, while they do have their technical pluses and minuses, Commvault can save you on average forty percent initially, and then twenty to twenty-five percent annually."
  • "The price could perhaps be lower as well."
  • "Our cost is around $20,000 per month. The previous year, it was around $30,000 per month. It now costs less because Commvault changed the licensing type for providers."
