Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It's a complete software that can protect all the main applications. Perhaps that's the feature I like most. The integration with the NetApp and other apps is also very nice.""The expanse of the decoys that they have is valuable. They cover everything on the corporate side that you would think of, such as Windows, Linux, and even applications like SAP. They also go into the OT environment and emulate OT devices as well.""A very stable and scalable platform (you can backup/restore/protect a couple of MBs or hundred of TBs as well from the same console/platform).""The most valuable feature is the ability to backup over the dedicated Fiber Channel directly from SAN.""Integration with Active Directory and the Azure platform make it a complete solution.""I like the product because of its simplicity and the fact that it provides one single interface for managing everything, including storage, data, and policies.""The diversity on offer is very, very good. Everything is supported. It's great.""It's easy to configure multiple jobs and media agent locations for each server. We do offsite backups for all of our servers, but we also do onsite hourly backups of them. That has benefited us several times when we had an incident and didn't want to roll back a server an entire day."

"You can back up the whole image.""Offers good recovery quickly.""The installation was straightforward.""The solution captures the system state, so when we restore the system, it will be restored to the state it was in at the time of the backup.""With Veritas System Recovery, we have the option to run an infinite number of full backups according to our requirements.""The solution has helped reduce my company's cost by around 50 to 60 percent.""It has a user-friendly interface.""The tool helps automate system recovery. The solution is most useful in scenarios involving restoration to a different environment. For instance, when migrating from a physical server to a virtual one, the tool facilitates conversion."

Cons
"The pricing could be more flexible in terms of licensing.""The solution needs better Office 365 data backup management.""The HTML interface is a remarkable improvement. However, there are still some features that are not available in that interface that are available in the Java console, but I'm sure that will come with time.""The solution requires improvement with its connection and bandwidth.""They should move the CommServe outside of Windows machines and the database should be distributed among servers. It's still a single point of failure.""Command Center definitely gives us a complete view of our data. But finding some of the granular, very small items that we sometimes have to find, such as auxiliary copies for tapes, I still find that it's easier to navigate and, sometimes, only possible to find them using the CommCell tool.""Just to keep it running is time-consuming. There are five people on my team. Commvault was supposed to be one of the less time-consuming solutions, but in reality it takes 60 percent of our time just to keep it running, and that's not even fine-tuning it; that's just to keep it running.""It does not have an easy deployment. The deployment is not something that just anybody can go in and deploy."

More Commvault Cloud Cons →

"The pricing could be cheaper.""Veritas System Recovery’s pricing and local support need some improvement.""The product's integration capabilities are an area with certain shortcomings where improvements are required.""It needs an easier interface.""Lacks the ability to protect the database snapshot.""The tool's deployment could be easier. The deployment itself isn't the issue; rather, the problem lies in configuring policies and testing everything before it's ready. We invest a significant amount of time in preparing for various scenarios. However, we often encounter situations where changes have occurred since our initial preparations. This can render the automation less valuable.""We faced issues with recovery and restoration.""The reliability is sometimes lacking."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "If budget allows using the per socket license and not the agent based with per GB counter for Dedup is the way to go."
  • "There is now a subscription based licence option that, depending on your environment, could offer a more efficient method to licence the solution if you are OPEX cost driven rather than CAPEX."
  • "New licensing is easy and affordable."
  • "Licensing could be better explained. Sometimes, it's unclear what features are available in different licensing models."
  • "Compared to other competitors and vendors the pricing is fair."
  • "In my experience, compared to solutions like Veritas and Veeam, while they do have their technical pluses and minuses, Commvault can save you on average forty percent initially, and then twenty to twenty-five percent annually."
  • "The price could perhaps be lower as well."
  • "Our cost is around $20,000 per month. The previous year, it was around $30,000 per month. It now costs less because Commvault changed the licensing type for providers."

  • "My company has to make yearly payments towards the licensing costs attached to the solution. There is no need to pay any additional fees apart from the licensing costs attached to the solution."
