It's a complete software that can protect all the main applications. Perhaps that's the feature I like most. The integration with the NetApp and other apps is also very nice. It's very stable. We are using a KVM system in our cloud, and this solution works very well with it. It's the leader in backup and archiving. It is much more scalable and flexible than everything else in the market. In the VM, we have Live Recovery, Live Mount, and Live Sync. Global deduplication and the indexing of the data object are the most valuable features. It saves costs on the product side by doing compression and deduplication. It will help you and make your life easy to reach the data that you need within the minimum downtime when it's required. It's an enterprise product. It's a stable product. We have good support. Almost all databases are in the scope. | The fact that we are able to test the failover of live systems during regular hours is invaluable to our organization. We are in the process of switching over our production data center and Zerto has been a true time-saver that has cost us zero downtime. The most valuable feature of Zerto is its overall flexibility, where it can be used for standard DR or you can also use it for server migrations, data center consolidations, etc. We use to use VMware replication appliances to attempt to replicate our VMs to remote locations and servers, but Zerto's one-to-many replication options with deduplication have made the process much simpler without having to constantly worry about the versions of each driver. The ease of failover and test environments has proven invaluable. I really like how you can test the failover as often as you need. The ability to perform DR testing to ensure data integrity is critical. The ability to have a RPO of seconds has enabled us to restore data to just before an incident has occurred, which certainly saves a lot of time and money. |

I think the one thing that could be improved is the customer experience. The interface should be more user friendly. The back of virtual machines needs improvement. I know they're working on it. They're always doing new things but I think they still have a little bit more to do. This solution can be complex and difficult to administer because it supports all of the many platforms, so it would help if they could simplify it. Its competitor, Veeam, includes backup and replication in the same product. I don't know if Commvault has it or not, but they should if they don't. Support for this product needs to be improved because I have seen a couple of cases where it is taking more than the required time to solve issues. We previously had difficulty with the support being foreign. The setup is not that straightforward or easy. Even the documentation is not generic or public like other products. You have to be a partner or you have to have a specific account and download it from the vendor themselves. You need quite a lot of human resources to maintain a Commvault environment, to keep it operational. Also, it would be nice to if there were an easier way set up some Commvault components. | The GUI could be streamlined a bit more to enhance the administrative tasks. The setup process is time-consuming. I wouldn't mind seeing Zerto sold at a cheaper price point, although the cost is comparable to VMware SRM. The number one thing we have found we would like changed so far is the cost per VM. It would be great to get that pricing reduced. I would like to see better notifications when the sync is off for an extended length of time. I think Zerto could do better with size planning because it would be nice to analyze a server for a week and give an estimate on sizing the Journal. Increased granularity in how long to keep the journal would be nice. We have had issues with licensing, where the license we've been given by Zerto support doesn't include VSS replication, which was a pain at the time. |
Pricing and Cost Advice | |
The price could perhaps be lower as well. In my experience, compared to solutions like Veritas and Veeam, while they do have their technical pluses and minuses, Commvault can save you on average forty percent initially, and then twenty to twenty-five percent annually. Compared to other competitors and vendors the pricing is fair. | Zerto is not cheap but is an invaluable asset. You need to figure out how many critical servers and applications you have in your environment so you will know how many Zerto licenses to buy. The cost per VM is a bit high. The cost is not dirt cheap but also is not terrible. We found that in an event that was massive enough to cause an entire cluster to go offline we would be happy with our core services up and running. You are getting what you pay for, as this is a solution that requires minimal management after it is configured. While we find the twenty-five VM license somewhat inflexible, the actual setup costs are minimal as the product is so easy to install. The solution is very cost-effective and very easy to set-up but does not compromise on features. |
