Pros
It's the leader in backup and archiving. It is much more scalable and flexible than everything else in the market. In the VM, we have Live Recovery, Live Mount, and Live Sync.Global deduplication and the indexing of the data object are the most valuable features. It saves costs on the product side by doing compression and deduplication. It will help you and make your life easy to reach the data that you need within the minimum downtime when it's required. It's an enterprise product. It's a stable product. We have good support. Almost all databases are in the scope.Backup and archive with a single window, with a single backup job. You only need to type "c".Cloud integration.Great archive feature, OnePass, for the file system and Exchange servers.

The ability to fully test your entire environment without actually performing a failover is invaluable. It has enabled DR protection for virtual appliances with minimal administrator time.During a failover to a DR site, Zerto can automatically change the IP address of servers. With Zerto, we were able to replicate our virtual servers to a remote DR site across a WAN connection. The initial setup was very straightforward and easy. We were able to start replication within minutes of the initial setup.Journaling allows us to leverage Zerto's journal for sub-minute recoveries, instead of having to wait for the storage array to replicate.Failover using Zerto is simply a one-button click, and it does everything else in restoring the VMs at a different datacenter (recovery site).Zerto is an excellent solution for cloud-based environments, but for DIY clients who have another site to recover their systems it also works well.

Cons
Its competitor, Veeam, includes backup and replication in the same product. I don't know if Commvault has it or not, but they should if they don't.Support for this product needs to be improved because I have seen a couple of cases where it is taking more than the required time to solve issues. We previously had difficulty with the support being foreign. The setup is not that straightforward or easy. Even the documentation is not generic or public like other products. You have to be a partner or you have to have a specific account and download it from the vendor themselves. You need quite a lot of human resources to maintain a Commvault environment, to keep it operational. Also, it would be nice to if there were an easier way set up some Commvault components. The HTML interface is a remarkable improvement. However, there are still some features that are not available in that interface that are available in the Java console, but I'm sure that will come with time.I just wanted to compare the features, which are there in EMC NetWorker, which are not available in Commvault. We have things using Networker.Training.

There needs to be more flexibility in the licensing. It would be helpful if the reports can be generated periodically, on a schedule.I would like them to add a VM host replication option. Being able to replicate host configuration between sites would be a huge benefit. The full site recovery is not up to SRM standards. It is difficult to manage failing over between sites if you are at the site that was impacted.Adding or changing VPGs (Virtual Protection Groups) may require restarting replication. An integrated encryption would allow for faster initial install and connection to the remote cloud site.Their offsite backup is a bit clunky, but it will probably improve.

Pricing and Cost Advice
In my experience, compared to solutions like Veritas and Veeam, while they do have their technical pluses and minuses, Commvault can save you on average forty percent initially, and then twenty to twenty-five percent annually.Compared to other competitors and vendors the pricing is fair.Licensing could be better explained. Sometimes, it's unclear what features are available in different licensing models.

While we find the twenty-five VM license somewhat inflexible, the actual setup costs are minimal as the product is so easy to install. The solution is very cost-effective and very easy to set-up but does not compromise on features. We believe the pricing, setup costs, and licensing are easy to understand. The pricing seems very reasonable. It's a little bit expensive.Licensing is VM based so you can buy packages or single VM. Price is not low but the power of application is high, so you will get your money back.
