Pros
The ability to pool the storage to leverage thin-provisioning is a huge saving in space and costs.Supporting of Automated-Storage-Tiering (AST) is a good feature that saves money.DataCore's ability to seamlessly move virtual volume data between storage pools as well as their synchronous mirroring has made maintenance and disaster recovery planning achievable.DataCore has helped provide flexible, highly available, high-performance storage that otherwise would have been outside our price range. The features I have found most valuable are the active-active, or so-called grid technology, and the integration into our VMware-vCenter.I'd have to say that the biggest improvement gained by using SANsymphony has to be the performance of the product. The most valuable feature for us is that we can adjust the size of the storage very easily, without stopping production.Good security with this solution.

The team behind it was very engaged and had the skills and ability to support a service provider. The two 10GE networks provide redundancy and increased performance as they serve as two separate networks doubling the throughput and doing multipathing and load balancing. We now have a high performance shared storage system which enables us to run on private cloud. Our previous system used bare-metal hardware, which provided high performance but inflexible management. Now we have best of both worlds, SSD-class performance with flexibility of a private cloud system. With StorPool we were able to build live failover on top of our LXC infrastructure. This allows us both to live-migrate containers between compute nodes without any downtime and, in case of an entire node suffering any type of failure, we can bring all containers back online within a minute on a spare compute node. The speed of the storage solution also allows us to provide service to applications that are very I/O intensive.Performance, redundancy, scalability and cost-effectiveness. StorPool delivers superbly in all of these areas.

Cons
Having an enterprise "Storage Dashboard" that can show capacity, usage, performance, and any issues would be very beneficial. We are waiting for container support (on the roadmap), as well as a user-friendly full web-administration capability, and an improved API.DataCore needs a more efficient and better way to keep track of metrics and counters so that we can do baseline analysis to measure performance. The cost is becoming prohibitive since they moved to a subscription model.I think an easier way to open a service call, right through the DataCore GUI, would be an improvement, especially when there is an urgent issue. There is no way of quickly matching the exact size of a vDisk to a disk pool. The alert system could have more features.I would like for it to improve into a more ergonomic management console and a translation into the French language. It should have some process for a shutdown of a VM properly in case of a problem.

Monitoring and statistics UI is a bit clumsy. At times we need to check the disks and do some minor operations. A friendlier user interface would be useful in such cases. It would be good if, with next releases, StorPool provide a better GUI for monitoring and statistics. This would make our experience even better and complete.he only place we feel they could improve is the time it takes to bring new features to production.Live and historical performance statistics would be useful, though my understanding is that this is on the way in a future release.

Pricing and Cost Advice
This solution allows the use of off-the-shelf hardware and charges by the TB of storage.Make sure you are made aware of the annual subscription cost when purchasing. The cost is at the same level as other storage solutions and it is easy to understand the licensing. The pricing and licensing are better with DataCore.

StorPool software is cost-effective and gives us a pricing advantage over our competitors.StorPool's pricing and licensing model is very transparent. As always, one has to due his due diligence when choosing a product like distributed storage solutions. It provides us with a significant reduction in TCO due to their pay-as-you-grow licensing model, which means we don’t have to pay upfront for hardware and licensing for capacity thStorPoolat we don’t yet need to use.
