We performed a comparison between DataCore SANsymphony and HPE SimpliVity based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two HCI solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."It enables us to provide more solution options for our clients, with the reassurance that, when implemented, they will be efficient and stable."
"It has allowed me to effectively and confidently manage the maintenance of hosts where I can power off a host and have its VMs migrate to another one."
"The management interface on the software is very simple. It is insanely simple compared to most SANs. The interface is also powerful when used to complete tasks that an IT administrator needs to complete."
"It allows you to use ANY consumer or enterprise HDDs and SSDs, and that's a really great thing!"
"Starwind support is excellent. They are very fast and have very good knowledge of Starwind and Hyper-V Cluster software."
"As the client had acquired another company some distance away, they were concerned about having a single SAN in one location or the other. StarWind vSAN allowed us to keep a copy of the data local to each site without asking the client to pay for two SANs in addition to the two new servers they needed."
"Being hardware agnostic is a must and definitely scored points for us."
"With an uptime of 384 days, StarWind has improved overall server reliability."
"Auto-tiering to obtain performance at a lower cost without the customer having to purchase ultra-fast storage is great."
"During the maintenance periods, on any part of the storage or VMware migration, we have had no downtime."
"Mirroring is the most valuable feature because I can provide a high-level of service and optimize the use of obsolete storage."
"The ability to pool the storage to leverage thin-provisioning is a huge saving in space and costs."
"Our central storage has very high availability. DataCore SANsymphony ensures high business continuity."
"The most valuable feature of DataCore SANsymphony SDS is its high availability. This solution also exhibits good performance and has high stability."
"CDP is an important feature for avoiding data loss in the event of ransomware attacks. You need more storage capacity, however, you get the possibility to return at any time and use the data saved up to that point. The recovery is much faster than with a classic restore."
"Supporting of Automated-Storage-Tiering (AST) is a good feature that saves money."
"It is simple and easy to use."
"The main thing is its performance. In terms of performance, it is a lot better than VMware. Obviously, technology is changing a lot all the time. We were on just VMware with a separate attached array. The performance was kind of a step backward from just running separate servers. Now, the performance is much better, and we can take snapshots and backups of really big servers in just a matter of seconds. We can even restore them in a matter of seconds."
"SimpliVity works well in a UAT environment.."
"No SAN switches and having a native backup is pretty cool."
"SimpliVity has provided our organization with a cost effective DR/data protection solution."
"We have not had any problem with customer support at SimpliVity."
"I find the replication feature valuable."
"Technical support is perfect. They explain to us the solution in a very clear and simple way. When we call them, they know the right answer and get the right person automatically."
"Updating the software can be a bit tricky."
"The gathering of monthly consumption and performance reports for future dissemination to concerned parties is very important. Unfortunately, StarWinds vSAN doesn't offer this functionality."
"There is no IPv6 support. That is our only issue at this time."
"The StarWind Management Console is available only for Microsoft Windows/Windows Server, and should also be available for Linux and macOS, as it would reduce implementation costs."
"I would like an automated installation/configuration despite the fact that their service is very collaborative, a customer should be able to deploy the solution by themselves."
"If there was a way to automatically put disks in maintenance mode when shutting the host down and exit maintenance mode automatically, that would simplify things."
"The cluster configuration is time-consuming and tedious."
"Diagnostics information or alerts on the state of systems could also be implemented to give more visibility."
"NVMeoF should be implemented. This protocol will play a major role in storage infrastructure in the future."
"If it could integrate to a cloud gateway, then we could carry it directly to storage, instead of having middleware in between the storage and the cloud."
"DataCore needs a more efficient and better way to keep track of metrics and counters so that we can do baseline analysis to measure performance."
"There is room for improvement in the graphical interface."
"DataCore should integrate its own file server into SANsymphony."
"I would like to see SMPA (Shared Multi-Port Array) technology developed with the aim of allowing a configuration identical to other storage arrays."
"I think an easier way to open a service call, right through the DataCore GUI, would be an improvement, especially when there is an urgent issue."
"Datacore is developing a new WebUI with new dashboards. It is a good idea as the classic GUI is lacking dashboards."
"Needs to improve the cloud integration, such as Azure and AWS."
"HPE SimpliVity could be more flexible and scalable. I don't feel SimpliVity is flexible or easily scalable because I still need to buy another server to add to my clusters. I can't just run or harvest and add to my solution. I need to buy another server. There are a lot of components that are not giving a lot of value to me right now. I also had a few problems with the built-in hard disk drives. I've had many issues with the harvest stripes that the servers use. Maybe it's a coincidence, but it's unusual to have a physical failure on the HPE platform. I don't see any value at the software level, especially in the software that manages that solution. I was waiting for something, especially in the application layer that I would use, but that is all over VMware, and it doesn't have an integrated module that I can use to manage the server and all the instances."
"Its price can be improved. Customers always look for better prices. It is more expensive as compared to other products available in the market."
"It could integrate better with other platforms. It's a proprietary solution of HPE, so you are stuck. Before I was running SimpliVity as an independent solution. it wasn't a card and software, so you could put in whatever server, IBM, Dell, etc."
"I have a free project with SimpliVity deployment in the next three months. What can be improved is that in one or two of these projects, I need a cloud backup for the infrastructure and data. As for the infrastructure of the product as it relates to customer size, it is not very good at this moment in Peru. I need a solution for the cloud. In Peru, it's a three or four solution provider for cloud services."
"The way that it handles the memory could be better."
"The initial setup was complex. It took a few months to integrate and adapt to the new platform."
"It's a very complex installation. It's gotten easier, however, it's far from a double click on a link and a self-upgrade scenario. There's still an awful lot of magic that goes down to doing upgrades."
