Pros
This product's unique protocol make it superior to competing products and alternate solutions.Data Domain is valuable, especially to restore data. For normal data, the restore from Data Domain is very efficient and fast. The functionality is very good. DD Boost and DD entry replication are used in almost all backup concepts. Those are the most used features. The backup aspect of the solution is its most valuable feature. The most valuable feature is the support for plug-ins.The most valuable feature of this solution is deduplication. The most valuable feature of this solution is that it can support both the CIFS and NFS protocols simultaneously.I like the tool set, it's easy to work on and the support is brilliant.

The backup is the solution's most valuable feature. It's very reliable. We sell Avamar with Data Domain. Data Domain and Avamar work really well together and their compression ratios are very high compared to Veeam, Commvault, and all the other backup software on the market.I think the brand is very good. Support is also very nice for end users and integration with EMC products for businesses. It was very simple to deploy the solution to the client that you wanted to backup. We love the instant recovery functionality. It's very useful. The product is good for backups. We have a lot of backups, and this tool helps us with the RMAN Backup.

Cons
Connectivity with the cloud and on-premises needs improved gateways. The experience of restoring VMware or Veeam Backup is difficult, when the backup you are using is a solution for backup, which is already having a deduplication. When you try to restore from Data Domain, it doesn't work perfectly, because Data Domain is already having a deduplication as well. The multi-tier functionality can be improved, but it is quite good. They could improve replication and perhaps support additional sharing network protocols. I would also like to see better implementation of NFS Version 3, but it is already implemented and quite usable as it is.The solution needs to be more user-friendly for the end-users.There are some limitations where you cannot use it as a shared server or as a file server, it is limited for the only backup. This product is expensive compared to other storage so the price can be improved. There are limitations when using the VTL protocol in extreme cases. It would be nice if they could have the same tool set right from the smallest to the biggest modules, but being specific frame dependent.

The configuration and expansion aspects of the solution need improvement. They're complicated and don't really integrate well.I think they could also move more towards cloud solutions. It already has some cloud tiering, but I think that could be more extensive. They should work with all cloud providers and I think in the future they will be on all cloud platforms. The interface could be more helpful for people. It was challenging to back up our Exchange database, which is one of the reasons we did not continue using this solution. The licensing model is not very flexible. Every time we upgrade our storage size, we need to upgrade the Avamar license. The client caches and deduplication system have a few problems. There are limitations when trying to use this solution with Hyper-V.

Pricing and Cost Advice
The pricing is high compared to the competition and should be reconsidered. The hardware platform is cost intense, so for small and mid-range, this product is not the best choice. The cost is monthly. We scale this product by adding licenses, which are related to capacity.

The price is the main thing I'd like to see them change. If they can come down in price, that would be a good thing. It's very cost competitive in the entry level range, because Veeam pricing is much cheaper than Avamar.I'm not sure, but perhaps the pricing could be done better at the moment. This solution is less expensive than Veeam for us, although it depends on the customer because we get a great discount.
