We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The solution is easy to use, flexible and has a lot of out-of-the-box functionality. You can configure the dashboards or you can use a script. However, to fully utilize its capabilities you will want to use a lot of scripts which you will need advanced training. The reports can be customized for many things, such as chargeback billing.""The platform's most valuable features are data protection and retention.""It generates very detailed reports, which makes things easier when it comes to IT auditing.""It has a lot of stock reports. I believe over 300 canned reports, which for the most part meet a lot of generic needs.""The deduplication is probably the most valuable feature of that requirement.""The initial setup is very straightforward. Deployment typically takes about one hour. You just need one person to handle the deployment process.""The reporting feature and the Dell's continuous improvement of the solution are the most valuable features. The solution not only supports Dell Power Products but also other products.""This is a stable solution."

"The solution allows us to block off our network and only give access to whatever we want.""The interface is very user-friendly.""Its dashboard is quite well done. When you log into the GUI, you can basically see everything you need to know. There is also the possibility to edit the view as you like, which is great.""The initial setup is straightforward. It's not that complicated. Deployment took maybe about 15 minutes.""The user interface is good.""The platform helps us with efficient QoreStor deduplication (DD) capabilities and configuration.""It has File and SQL backup, which is the main benefit for us.""Having the web-based interface is important to us because we can access it from any computer in the network, rather than having it installed and available for use only on a specific one."

Cons
"The solution requires more integration with our other solutions. I know that they have full integration with VMware because it is also from EMC. However, we have to have better integration with Microsoft and Nutanix as well.""We have encountered issues where we were unable to pull data from the database server. It should also improve the backward compatibility.""They should empower their customers with the ability to upgrade this solution as long as it's in the same major release.""It is difficult to manage the solution with the available tools. You need to know exactly what are you are doing.""It's a bit difficult for first-time users.""The stability of the solution needs improvement for stand alone users.""The functionality of the Data Protection Advisor is limited and is something that is lacking in this solution. Other solutions like CloudIQ and DDMC provide a much better outlook on how data protection should be done.""Customization of reports or creating new reports can be difficult. Users need to have a deep knowledge of SQL. 70-80% of customers can't seem to understand how to do it. They don't know how to address reporting. If Dell EMC could simplify it, it would benefit the end-user."

"There are certain issues with the product that we report to Quest, and we get offered a workaround instead of a fix. There could be better interaction with the development teams, perhaps in terms of transparency.""I would like to see the option of cloud-based management.""In the next version, I would like to see support for the MongoDB database. As it is now, there is no component that works with it and we cannot back the data up using NetVault.""The stability of the solution is poor.""The product’s SQL backup plugin needs improvement.""The interface can be improved. It should be more clear what features are available and make them easy to find.""The initial setup is a little complex.""There are command-line limitations. There is not a very strong possibility to work with the command line. The commands that are there are not that powerful, and you need to be very good at scripting, for example, in PowerShell or in Bash in case it is running on Linux systems. You need to combine a lot of commands together, and still, you will not get a great output that is presentable to others. You cannot work with it as easily."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It's not very expensive — I think the price is fair."
  • "You have to procure the license when you are ordering or quoting for Dell Data Protection Suite (DPS). DPS is bundled with the suite and comes with a license. However, if you purchase NetWorker separately then you will have to procure the license for DPS separately."
  • "For pricing, I would rate Dell 2 out of 5. It's affordable."
  • "You need to make an upfront payment for three, five, or seven years and renew the licenses for support. We can do an annual maintenance contract with Dell. I would rate the product's pricing a six out of ten."
  • "If the customer has huge lineup of Dell Products then they receive discount on the pricing."
  • "The product is affordable."

  • "The price of our 12-month contract is approximately $1,500 AUD ($1,100 USD)."
  • "When we purchased four licenses, we were given a very good price. However, it is still on the high side when compared to some other vendors."
  • "The tool is expensive."
