We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"It's the leader in backup and archiving.""It's very stable.""It's a complete software that can protect all the main applications. Perhaps that's the feature I like most. The integration with the NetApp and other apps is also very nice.""We are using a KVM system in our cloud, and this solution works very well with it.""The solution provides us with a single platform to move, manage, and recover our data across on-premise locations. Some of the guys have been using it to move a virtual machine from VMware to the Microsoft solution, Hyper-V. They back it up and then they restore to the different virtual machine provider, and that works great.""The multi-tenancy is the most valuable feature for us because it's the only software that is fully multi-tenant and that has all the features we need to provide to all our tenants. It provides us with advanced features for MySQL and Oracle, among other platforms""The most valuable feature is sharing data sets like they're in a private cloud. We call it our "private cloud" because we can share anything that is inside our backup set with our colleagues or with other people, and yet, everything is still in Belgrade, in Serbia. It's not somewhere else on cloud servers. Everything is in our environment.""I'm a big fan of the reporting. You can build your own reports; it's very customizable. You can have individual reports going to groups of people or individuals. You can have them go out multiple times a day. It's basically a free-for-all as far as reporting goes. If anybody wants a specific job report every day, you can build it, schedule it, and have it go out and never touched it again. It's pretty nice."

"The most valuable features for us at the moment are NFS, file system backup, and IP backup.""The solution is very stable, especially if you are using a RAC environment.""NetWorker has very good scalability.""Technical support for this solution is very good.""The solution has minimized the recovery time objective, and the recovery point objective, the RTO and RPO. Most customers are looking for to minimize downtime. The solution has helped ensure this.""The backup software has been much faster since we've deployed the solution.""I feel that it is a good product.""Simple, stable and straightforward."

"The solution can scale up to one petabyte right now. It's very good for enterprise-level organizations.""The initial setup was straightforward. Deployment takes about two weeks.""The deduplication feature is the most valuable part of the solution.""We have never had any issues with Data Domain. It has been stable.""The most valuable features are the deduplication and compression and the Data Domain Boost.""It's very easy to use the domain once it's been set up. The interface is also user-friendly.""The solution's most valuable feature is the integrated deduplication function.""The product provides good backup and compression services."

Cons
"Its competitor, Veeam, includes backup and replication in the same product. I don't know if Commvault has it or not, but they should if they don't.""The back of virtual machines needs improvement. I know they're working on it. They're always doing new things but I think they still have a little bit more to do.""I think the one thing that could be improved is the customer experience. The interface should be more user friendly.""This solution can be complex and difficult to administer because it supports all of the many platforms, so it would help if they could simplify it.""Just to keep it running is time-consuming. There are five people on my team. Commvault was supposed to be one of the less time-consuming solutions, but in reality it takes 60 percent of our time just to keep it running, and that's not even fine-tuning it; that's just to keep it running.""There is room for improvement in its user interface and web console, called Command Center. They are improving it every year so if they continue in that direction, I think it will be a very reliable console.""They can always improve the interface design to make it easier. Sometimes, you need to click two or three times to do something. They should look at what tabs are used most and make them more accessible, to cut the time it takes to get to that information.""Command Center definitely gives us a complete view of our data. But finding some of the granular, very small items that we sometimes have to find, such as auxiliary copies for tapes, I still find that it's easier to navigate and, sometimes, only possible to find them using the CommCell tool."

More Commvault Cons »

"We are looking forward to better stability in future versions.""The software also isn't user-friendly like Convault or Rubrik. The solution errors and management aren't so good in comparison.""The deduplication needs improvement and it could use better integration.""We are able to do direct backups, but analyzing the logs is not straightforward.""It's not easy to integrate. We have to read a lot of documentation in order to configure the solution.""I haven't had a good experience with technical support. It takes them a very long time to resolve issues.""There are too many reboots and the software requires constant updating.""Reporting templates could be easier to understand and more comprehensive."

More Dell EMC NetWorker Cons »

"The pricing should be adjusted. Customers continuously talk about the price. They know it is a good solution and they really need the type of storage the solution offers, but it costs somewhere around $100,000 and up. It's not cheap, but it's very important for data vendors.""The pricing model needs to be improved.""EMC is very expensive for small customers.""We are not able to deal directly with the OEM we have to go to their partners in Nigeria.""We have had deduplication and replication issues. When we used another backup software we noticed that it didn't have the same issues.""The firmware upgrades could be simplified. I'm in the process of struggling to upgrade right now.""The pricing could be better, but it's still not too expensive.""The licensing model was the biggest concern for our company, but the poor support after the initial implementation is of equal concern."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"The price could perhaps be lower as well.""Our cost is around $20,000 per month. The previous year, it was around $30,000 per month. It now costs less because Commvault changed the licensing type for providers.""Our yearly cost is around €20,000... The cost is based on the number of users and the amount of data. They sell it per terabyte.""There is a bit of cost involved with signing up the entire solution. It's not a cheap solution.""Commvault licensing is a perpetual license so only the support is being renewed yearly.""The complete license gives us options for all the features. Commvault does not license based on storage or the management components. It can integrate with any storage vendor. That means that when we are out of storage and need more, we can integrate without additional licensing. In my opinion, Commvault needs to reduce the licensing cost by 20 to 40 percent to make it cost-efficient.""We went from Veritas NetBackup to Commvault. We switched due to upfront licensing and costs. We have more visibility into what we're actually purchasing. It seemed like, overall, the cost of Commvault was cheaper.""It is cheaper than Veeam."

"It's approximate, but I believe we pay around $20-30,000 a month in licensing.""The pricing of this solution is very good.""If you purchase Avamar, NetWorker is free with Avamar, for one terabyte license capacity.""It is excellent from the pricing point of view. It is free with Data Protection Suite. Similarly, when you purchase Avamar, Dell EMC NetWorker is free with one terabyte license capacity. Its price is very competitive.""The price is a little on the high side, but it's reliable and provides a good service.""It is not very expensive and not very cheap.""They are not cheap.""Licensing is based on the number of terabytes, so you need to purchase packages."

More Dell EMC NetWorker Pricing and Cost Advice »

"Pricing is related to size. A lower range solution might be about $33,000. My customers use higher range versions with a price of around $100,000. That's the price for both the hardware and software.""In Naira it was twenty-five or twenty-seven million (approximately $75,000 USD) for the implementation and maintenance cost for three years.""There are many options in the pricing structure which can cause some confusion and necessitate the purchase of additional licensing.""This is one of the more expensive backup solutions on the market.""Its price is reasonable.""It could be more competitively priced. Its licensing was for five years. Obviously, the support will get renewed at some stage, but that's it."
