We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It's the perfect solution for virtual and container directives. The data reduction feature works well, and we haven't had any issues.""I would say flexibility is the most important feature of the product. The performance and speed are the best on the market.""The product's initial setup phase was easy.""Dell EMC PowerProtect Data Manager is user-friendly and easy to use. it does what it needs to do.""Dell PowerProtect Data Manager helps to reduce the amount of data being transferred and stored.""The deduplication is the most valuable feature because it helps to control the overhead.""The solution's initial setup is straightforward.""The solution adequately handles data storage."

"It's user-friendly and not overly complicated to configure.""It is a stable solution. Stability-wise, I rate the solution a nine out of ten...The initial setup process for the solution is easy.""This solution is quite stable because we have only three users.""The most valuable feature of Data Protector is its integration with VMware. A lot of software these days integrates with VMware, and you can run some of these things on virtual machines. You can even have your backup manager running on a virtual machine and use physical managers to move data around. Their VMware integration isn't too bad, but Commvault has that feature, and many other backup products do.""I like that it supports HPE UNIX servers since many backup solutions do not - this is the main reason why we chose this solution.""The solution is easy to use.""Performs the backup properly and protects our data.""It works excellently only with Oracle."

Cons
"As a new product, there are some things that still need to improve a bit as it matures.""The Dell EMC PowerProtect Data Manager reports could improve. There should be different kinds of reports on failures, such as dashboards that we can submit to top management or auditors.""A lot of improvement is required in Dell's first level of support.""They should include a feature similar to S3 bucket.""There is always room for improvement. The compression ratio should be improved as well as the efficiency.""The interface is too complex.""Management is difficult and it is hard to determine when things aren't working properly.""You need to use additional software to back up entire environments. It will be good if they could support entire tape libraries."

More Dell PowerProtect Data Manager Cons →

"It can occasionally be inaccurate in its backup/recovery time estimates.""The interface has been the same for many years and needs to be updated""It has a lot of undeveloped functions like window searching and patent searching, and within the main backup processes like VMware and Microsoft Exchange. It's completely not user-friendly, and it has no built-in antivirus software. In my opinion, Micro Focus Data Protector is not an enterprise level solution.""Other tools seem to be easier to use.""I do not think that this solution is relevant in the current IT market. They have not upgraded their features and functionalities which makes it difficult for them to remain competitive.""The GUI could be updated. The GUI hasn't changed since version 6. It's on version 10 now. The reporting could also be better. Also, while Data Protector is excellent for backing up physical hardware, it needs more features for backing up VM images because many environments use hypervisor.""I don't like this solution so much because it's very technical and compared to Commvault and Veeam, it's not so user-friendly. The interface needs improvement.""We have a lot of requests for the Micro Focus team, particularly in terms of the Japanese data pattern, as it's not as good now. The Japanese data pattern accuracy of the Micro Focus Data Protector needs to be improved because there are a lot of false negatives and false positives. We are currently testing this and our product team has been communicating with the Micro Focus team."
