We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"As our organization functions, we have a total of 2500+ primary sites and 6300+ secondary sites. All of our entire backup systems are totally dependent on this product. EMC Data Domain is very reliable and there are no issues using it since 2015.""The solution can scale up to one petabyte right now. It's very good for enterprise-level organizations.""The initial setup was straightforward. Deployment takes about two weeks.""The deduplication feature is the most valuable part of the solution.""We have never had any issues with Data Domain. It has been stable.""The most valuable features are the deduplication and compression and the Data Domain Boost.""It's very easy to use the domain once it's been set up. The interface is also user-friendly.""The solution's most valuable feature is the integrated deduplication function."

"The solution is very scalable.""Installing this solution is very simple and takes perhaps five or ten minutes.""If you use the NetBackup Appliance you do not need to have separate media servers and hardware. You can configure the same storage as a media server and master server as well as a storage port. This helps to reduce the hardware costs of the media server.""The most valuable feature of this solution is that it can be used in many different kinds of systems.""The intelligent policies feature is used in order to protect the VMware infrastructure. One of the things that makes a big difference for our company is the usage of these intelligence policies. The system automatically provides extra protection for any VMware server application or service. From a backup administrator's point of view, this is what we call peace of mind. It reduces the workload and therefore reduces resources needed from the company.""They are a large company with good best practices, and they give good support.""We rarely need their help. I would give their technical support an 8.5 out of ten. We are satisfied.""Compared to a homemade installation, this appliance is very stable."

Cons
"Dell EMC Data Domain needs to have better compatibility between NetWorker and the hardware. NetWorker is not as good as the other products which are currently on the market like Backup Exec.""The pricing should be adjusted. Customers continuously talk about the price. They know it is a good solution and they really need the type of storage the solution offers, but it costs somewhere around $100,000 and up. It's not cheap, but it's very important for data vendors.""The pricing model needs to be improved.""EMC is very expensive for small customers.""We are not able to deal directly with the OEM we have to go to their partners in Nigeria.""We have had deduplication and replication issues. When we used another backup software we noticed that it didn't have the same issues.""The firmware upgrades could be simplified. I'm in the process of struggling to upgrade right now.""The pricing could be better, but it's still not too expensive."

"They could simplify the process of installing, and provide more space for data during the process.""I would like the ability to recover a single folder within the backup of a virtual machine.""With technical support, it feels like they aren't well trained and it takes forever to get answers out of them.""Technical support for this solution needs to be improved.""The only drawback for NetBackup, and of course for Veritas, is that they have stuck to the same environment and to the same UI - User Interface. This needs to be improved in future releases. It needs to be more dynamic.""I would like to see a product that requires less expertise to manage it.""They need to make the licensing more clear. They should give all of the licensing details for the portals and be more clear. I have accidentally purchased the incorrect license because it's not clear.""The scalability isn't great. Every time you want to add storage, you can't just add a little bit, you need to add a lot."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"Pricing is related to size. A lower range solution might be about $33,000. My customers use higher range versions with a price of around $100,000. That's the price for both the hardware and software.""In Naira it was twenty-five or twenty-seven million (approximately $75,000 USD) for the implementation and maintenance cost for three years.""There are many options in the pricing structure which can cause some confusion and necessitate the purchase of additional licensing.""This is one of the more expensive backup solutions on the market.""Its price is reasonable."
