Quotes From Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"It is much more scalable and flexible than everything else in the market.""It's the leader in backup and archiving.""It's very stable.""It's a complete software that can protect all the main applications. Perhaps that's the feature I like most. The integration with the NetApp and other apps is also very nice.""We are using a KVM system in our cloud, and this solution works very well with it.""The solution provides us with a single platform to move, manage, and recover our data across on-premise locations. Some of the guys have been using it to move a virtual machine from VMware to the Microsoft solution, Hyper-V. They back it up and then they restore to the different virtual machine provider, and that works great.""The multi-tenancy is the most valuable feature for us because it's the only software that is fully multi-tenant and that has all the features we need to provide to all our tenants. It provides us with advanced features for MySQL and Oracle, among other platforms""The most valuable feature is sharing data sets like they're in a private cloud. We call it our "private cloud" because we can share anything that is inside our backup set with our colleagues or with other people, and yet, everything is still in Belgrade, in Serbia. It's not somewhere else on cloud servers. Everything is in our environment."

"One of the features I find most valuable, is the good technical support.""The speed and the ease of the initial setup are both good. It is not complex."

More Dell EMC ProtectPoint Pros »

"Veritas NetBackup Automatic Image Replication and CloudCatalyst features allow me to replicate deduped backup images from one site to a remote site, as well as duplicating deduped images to the Cloud (i.e. AWS S3, etc.)""The reporting is very good, with all of the details highlighted and very clear.""The most valuable features are the VMware VADP backups and the support for data domains.""The VM portal and the CloudCatalyst are two of the solution's most valuable features.""Good graphical user interface. It's easy to create policies and to do installs.""The solution offers very good storage efficiency, so there's excellent compression and deduplication within the product that our clients really appreciate.""The most valuable feature is the trouble-free operation, as we have not had many problems with it.""The solution offers a lot of really great features that organizations can utilize and take advantage of."

Cons
"Support for this product needs to be improved because I have seen a couple of cases where it is taking more than the required time to solve issues.""Its competitor, Veeam, includes backup and replication in the same product. I don't know if Commvault has it or not, but they should if they don't.""The back of virtual machines needs improvement. I know they're working on it. They're always doing new things but I think they still have a little bit more to do.""I think the one thing that could be improved is the customer experience. The interface should be more user friendly.""This solution can be complex and difficult to administer because it supports all of the many platforms, so it would help if they could simplify it.""Just to keep it running is time-consuming. There are five people on my team. Commvault was supposed to be one of the less time-consuming solutions, but in reality it takes 60 percent of our time just to keep it running, and that's not even fine-tuning it; that's just to keep it running.""There is room for improvement in its user interface and web console, called Command Center. They are improving it every year so if they continue in that direction, I think it will be a very reliable console.""They can always improve the interface design to make it easier. Sometimes, you need to click two or three times to do something. They should look at what tabs are used most and make them more accessible, to cut the time it takes to get to that information."

More Commvault Cons »

"The interface and documentation need to improve.""The product has to be more mature, like to be another six to eight months on the market. A lot of maturity needs to be incorporated."

More Dell EMC ProtectPoint Cons »

"This product would be improved with the inclusion of a Sandbox feature like Veeam Sandbox.""This solution would benefit from a more friendly, web-based interface.""In terms of improvement, it's very difficult to make it work with multiple business units. Its security model is too constricted.""It would be helpful, in future releases, if the solution could add WORM (Write Once Read Many) support right within the product.""Lacks a reporting feature.""It would be extremely helpful if the solution offered near-zero recovery time for SQL.""The speed of restoring data could be improved.""The only pain point we have with this solution is the cost. It's very expensive. In fact, it's so expensive we are looking for other platforms. We want to move away from it in order to save our organization costs."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"In my experience, compared to solutions like Veritas and Veeam, while they do have their technical pluses and minuses, Commvault can save you on average forty percent initially, and then twenty to twenty-five percent annually.""The price could perhaps be lower as well.""Our cost is around $20,000 per month. The previous year, it was around $30,000 per month. It now costs less because Commvault changed the licensing type for providers.""Our yearly cost is around €20,000... The cost is based on the number of users and the amount of data. They sell it per terabyte.""There is a bit of cost involved with signing up the entire solution. It's not a cheap solution.""Commvault licensing is a perpetual license so only the support is being renewed yearly.""The complete license gives us options for all the features. Commvault does not license based on storage or the management components. It can integrate with any storage vendor. That means that when we are out of storage and need more, we can integrate without additional licensing. In my opinion, Commvault needs to reduce the licensing cost by 20 to 40 percent to make it cost-efficient.""We went from Veritas NetBackup to Commvault. We switched due to upfront licensing and costs. We have more visibility into what we're actually purchasing. It seemed like, overall, the cost of Commvault was cheaper."

Information Not Available
"We are very satisfied with the price of this solution.""If you have a source size of one terabyte then they will charge for a one terabyte license, although what is actually being stored is much less.""It's expensive when comparing to other solutions on the market.""My licensing model is based on capacity so as we grow, the price we pay increases and it becomes too expensive.""Licensing fees are charged based on the number of CPU cores.""We are happy with the pricing that we have, but it's expensive.""It is very expensive. The licensing cost for this solution is on a yearly basis. It is approximately 50k. We will continue using it at least for the next year, but we are currently doing an analysis to switch to some other solution.""Pricing is good, under our budget, and flexible."
