We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
The All-Flash models are pretty fast for the vast majority of our remote workloads. We use replication for disaster recovery (DR), making our DR process much easier. It has reduced complexity. We have resolved IT challenges with this solution. It sped up our environment. We went from spinning disk to all-flash, which reduced our footprint. It has good performance. We can get almost real-time response times. The most valuable thing for our use case is the flexibility to have multiple-protocol support. It is pretty stable. I like the stability, because everything works like it should. We made it all redundant. So, we don't have anything to worry about.

The quality of service for minimum iOS, to maximum iOS in a multi-terminal environment is very powerful. The SQL service feature is the best part of SolidFire.Overall performance of the solution. The scalability and being able to implement it quickly.Individual settings you can put on each individual volume, if you want to do that.We can add a node, we add compute, we add storage, and we've had really good luck with that.If we get complaints about any kind of performance metric issues, whether it's storage related or something on the virtual side, we use it to pinpoint what the actual issue is.SolidFire is one of the products that does have great APIs right out-of-the-box. It works great. The tools and the other stuff seem to work a little better right out-of-the-box than the ONTAP stuff does, C-Mode.Being able to provide quality of service as promised.

Cons
We would like to see the concept of Storage Groups brought back to this product line.I haven't seen the roadmap for this solution. It is missing some features, like deduplication.Because we can do synchronous replication between the two sites, this made the setup challenging for this piece. They did not know how to set this up initially. We ended up having to do bidirectional synchronous replication.I would like them to continue to build on the solution and expand on the functionality, like replication. We'd like to see a cheaper version of an all-flash array in that footprint.I would like to have secure mobile connectivity going forward. This would help me be more proactive. If you compare it with VMAX, where we communicate with the box through Solutions Enabler and there are a lot of commands and a lot of flexibility, the command line for Unity needs to enhanced.

I think there is room for improvement needed with its storage capability. A bigger node is needed. It's a very good Windows-type solution. But we do a lot of legacy systems and the like. So it's getting that incorporated into it that would help us.A little better segregation of the multi-tenancy. Right now, it's just VLAN-specific, that's all you can do.We had some false positives, power supplies failing, and that's really been about it. We had a couple of glitches during some upgrade processes but nothing that was really concerning to us.For example, the ease of use with the reporting. Right now it's not impossible, but you have to know Sequel. It's a little time consuming to get those customized reports in there. They could do a file-based NAS: SolidFire NAS-based. It's probably not its niche, but that is our direction, not to use block, and it's block. Solid state block is what it is.I would like to see integration with the cloud, number one. Being able to spin SolidFire in the cloud. So feature-wise, I would say more reporting tools that could be merged into it.

Pricing and Cost Advice
Our CAPEX was close to $42,000 and operating costs are below $1000.Our costs are roughly $200,000 a year. The solution is extremely functional for the price that we pay for it. It is worth the investment. We purchased a five-year warranty.Compression is making a difference towards the amount of hardware that we need to purchase. The return on the investment was simply speeding up our entire vSphere stack, which allowed our developers and engineers to get their workloads done faster and simpler. We were experiencing VM snapshot times of 45 minutes to two or three hours, and it shrunk it down to under five minutes. It scales, but then you have to buy additional stuff. With the large Unity that we bought, it has saved us about one and a half rack space. That's our return on investment on our flash array. We also need less Fibre Channel connectivity.

We would probably use SolidFire more, except we're getting more bang for our buck with our purchases of ONTAP right now, and the deal we made with NetApp, so it's more of just a cost decision
