We performed a comparison between Dell XtremIO and Kaminario K2 [EOL] based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out what your peers are saying about Dell Technologies, NetApp, Pure Storage and others in All-Flash Storage."The security operating system is its most valuable feature because it's very simple, easy to use, and operate. You don't have to do very serious training to operate this equipment. It's user-friendly and pretty straightforward."
"The most valuable feature is how it simplifies the management of the SAN."
"I never have to worry about its performance or if it is the root cause of an issue."
"This solution has improved our organization in the way that we used to see latency but now with this solution we don't. It also has good performance. Latencies have come down for our performance in the SQL databases. We can put a lot more in a lot less in terms of space savings. We also save data center space have good deduplication."
"The performance of the storage is just unbelievable."
"Pure Storage technology allowed us to automate tasks, reducing something which started as a 12-hour turnaround down to about 15 minutes."
"The tool is simple and easy to use. It has neat features like protection from device removal. Moreover, you can undo the deletes. The solution is easy to work with and not as complicated as CAC"
"I like FlashArray's ActiveCluster as well as its snapshot and cloning capabilities."
"Snapshots are valuable because of their seamless nature, as well as the minimal space each snapshot takes."
"Xtrem10's features are more simple to implement. The integration and interface are also good."
"Thin storage allocation"
"The feature I like most about Dell Xtremio is its hardware quality compared to other vendors. It's clear they're continuously improving their research and development."
"Dell XtremIO is good for databases and huge workloads."
"The performance is good, which is important."
"XtremIO’s capability to run any workload without much in the way of design considerations makes this very easy to use and size."
"Performance and deduplication. This is a very robust block storage option that offers both performance and data optimization."
"The increased performance is many times above our previous array performance in all metrics. Integration with vSphere features is also a definite plus."
"It provides a full feature set without separate licensing (deduplication, compression, snapshot, asynchronous replication, stable performance, etc.)."
"Built-in snapshot support gives us SAN-side functionality most other platforms would have had us license separately."
"Implementation of the solution is very simple."
"The ratio between the physical storage and the storage we use is very high."
"Latency is definitely the big key for us."
"Scale out is a differentiator for them, especially in the enterprise market. It's key for a lot of customers."
"Inline compression"
"It's not so scalable. It's got moderate scaling capabilities right now. The clustering technology needs a bit of work, they need to improve that."
"I like what they're doing, but some of my customers complain that they do not have all the bells and whistles and knobs to fine-tune workloads that some of the competitors have. In my opinion, that's good. All customers don't have dedicated storage gurus, and they can get themselves into trouble if they fine-tune too many of those high-performance knobs, but they do get knocked down. Pure Storage takes a hit in the minds and opinions of some of the customers because they cannot customize things as much as compared to a legacy storage provider's appliance such as NetApp, Dell EMC, or even HPE. I personally think 95% of my customers are better off letting the system fine-tune itself. That was something that you needed to do 12 or 15 years ago, but now with all-flash, the technology can handle what it needs to handle. Customers just end up shooting themselves in the foot if they are tweaking too many default settings."
"This product has only two active controllers, whereas other solutions can have more. This is something that needs to improve."
"I’d love to view the average, minimum and maximum performance in the reports (Analysis tab - Performance) but it is only graphics and you need to export data in CSV to find this information."
"They should work on their upgrades, they're not smooth."
"As long as they always improve on IOPS speed, that's all we're really looking for. The faster the storage can be the more we can do speed of application and speed of use."
"I would love for them to have a hyper-converged solution."
"The time-to-market could be better at times, but I think that's true for all vendors of hardware."
"In some cases where we don’t need the flexibility of the virtualization layer, we could free up resources on the VPLEX by using the storage replication."
"We've encountered challenges in integrating other products with Dell Xtremio, as it tends to be more vendor-locked. This means we can't easily explore other solutions that might work alongside Dell."
"They can improve the product by providing an HTML5-based interface instead of the Java GUI based application."
"The physical architecture could use some higher levels of redundancy."
"The solution needs to be simplified. When you integrate your storage with other systems, could use a little bit of automation."
"Dell's technical support could be better."
"This solution is geared toward enterprise-level companies. Small and medium-sized businesses would find it extremely expensive."
"The implementation isn't exactly complex, but the solution should have some enhancements in it to make the process more centralized."
"The interface look and feel could be improved."
"Improved scale and budget planning with flexibility of the solution for budget needs and efficiency for growth with the great optimization ratio due to the nature of our use."
"Some of the nice to haves for us, in terms of today, would be VVols but again, it’s not a critical feature."
"The front panel of the drive shelf doesn't always seat firmly."
"The management graphical interface needs more improvement."
"I would like to see LDAP for the management panel; I've been notified they might be currently working on it."
"I would like them to improve the look of the product’s external casing and shelves."
"I'm hoping to see Active Directory integration. Right now, you still have to use a local admin account to log in and manage everything."
