We performed a comparison between Dell PowerConnect Switches and VMware NSX based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two LAN Switching solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."When the price is competitive the customers tend to choose the cheaper brand and then look at the features. So having a competitive price is a plus."
"The technology is good and the interface is simple. We haven't had any bugs, disconnections or delays."
"Dell PowerConnect Switches are very easy to configure with the GUI. Dell supports the solution even though it has been discontinued."
"The product is cheap."
"The most valuable features are the jumbo frames and the stacking."
"Its throughout and compatibility are the most valuable."
"The setup is straightforward. It takes minimum time for deployment."
"Dell PowerConnect Switches have a VTL feature similar to Cisco's VSS. With VTL, using this technology, you can cluster two switches together to increase redundancy in the environment."
"The microsegmentation is a good feature. You can segment details, products, or hardware information."
"It has reduced the number of people on the network team along with the system engineer involved in the security process. So, it is valuable."
"The migration methods are the most valuable aspect of this solution."
"The most valuable features are the micro-segmentation and integrated security options."
"The dashboard is comprehensive and easy to use."
"VMware NSX is a very good solution. It's also a scalable solution."
"It operates on a logical level, providing a comprehensive and centralized way to manage your network resources."
"Over the last two years, they've enhanced a lot, especially in regard to integration with OpenStack."
"An area for improvement would be that it's very hard to configure if you're not familiar with the UI or CLI of the product. The UI itself could also be improved."
"A user can take care of the product's installation part, but it may not seem to be an easy process."
"The CLI for Dell PowerConnect Switches is sometimes confusing, especially with the LAN, but for the GUI it is simple."
"Their hardware is not reliable, it's faulty."
"The solution's ROI for generic networking is not extraordinary."
"Accessibility and management could be improved."
"The configuration should be improved."
"There should be more port options in this switch. Currently, it has 24 or 48 ports. However, some of our customers require only 8 ports, but I have to put a switch with 24 ports. They should provide smaller solutions and complimentary access point for companies like ours with a low quantity of work. The main issue with this product is branding. They should improve their branding and promote their brand more in Mexico. Customers are more aware of brands like Cisco as compared to Dell."
"VMware NSX can improve the migration tools from the older environments to the new environment. For example, the NSX-V has become a legacy solution, it's out of support, but customers are able to keep using it. For migration purposes, it's better for them to provide a proper tool. It will be easy to migrate from an old environment to a new one."
"It could be more user-friendly, but it's manageable. When we add a specific node to this particular NSX and the configuration changes, it won't push through the errors where required, but it'll accept it. However, while using it, we will have issues. It can also be more stable."
"The cost of the solution has room for improvement."
"Just being more knowledgeable about the different functions."
"The solution could improve by having a more streamlined setup."
"NSX could better integrate with open-source products. Of course, it integrates with some, but I know many people are uncomfortable deploying NSX with certain open-source solutions, such as Radar."
"I would like to have automating reporting built into common service management platforms, such as JIRA, Serviceaide, and ServiceNow."
"VMware NSX only supports some platforms like KVM."
