We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Quick setup, great support, stability is great""The available GUI is excellent for monitoring and operating the system in an easy and direct way.""Recovery and maintenance are now less stressful and most importantly, it allows our users to keep working.""StarWind vSAN has allowed us to grow rapidly while still providing flexibility and reliability.""One of the standout features of StarWind.com is its remarkable ability to seamlessly integrate with Dell systems. This integration provides users with an unmatched level of convenience and compatibility, allowing for streamlined operations within a Dell environment. This compatibility factor alone can save significant time and effort for IT professionals, ensuring a smooth integration process and optimized performance.""The management and monitoring have been very easy since the solution's dashboard is very simple and user-friendly.""When we need additional storage but want to keep the size of the SANs manageable, the StarWind Virtual SAN has allowed me to do everything needed.""It has reduced our overall maintenance and overhead by having to only maintain physical boxes for one cluster instead of having to manage physical boxes for two clusters."

"The program is stable.""The support is highly responsive.""The setup was very straightforward.""The most valuable feature is the overall integration and just seeing the three different layers which make up the machine software. Altogether, it's something that I would say is much better than any other solution that I have experienced before.""The catalog of APIs for automation has been most valuable, although they are quite limited.""Dell PowerFlex is a one-stop-shop solution. Storage, compute, network, application monitoring, and support cases are all combined into one solution. It's very easy to administer compared to when you have a reference architecture where you need to design and build everything yourself. You would also then have to work with multiple vendors.""We've had no issues with scaling the solution.""The support team responds quickly."

More Dell PowerFlex Pros →

"The most valuable feature is that you can assign a volume to an off-shore workload on the fly.""What I like the most is that it is easy to implement, easy deployment and that it's easy to manage.""The solution's best feature is its simplicity. It's so simple to deploy it. You've got the VMware, and it's own appliance. It is really helpful. The system is online within half a day and saves so much time.""The most valuable feature is the low management overhead, and the lower skill set required to manage it.""The most valuable features are the deduplication and the compression features.""The solution's hardware is great.""When we compare it to normal hardware servers, I'd say it is quite easy to configure and deploy."

Cons
"I would definitely like to see quite a bit more on the monitoring side of things.""The console is something that I feel could be improved. There is nothing technically wrong with it, but it can be jazzed up and/or made to be a little more intuitive.""Regular updates to the software are required, and subtle design changes would be welcome.""The only thing that I have any difficulty with is that in order to perform upgrades, it is required that the SANs be detached from the Hosts before that can happen.""For improvement, I would like to see how the software determines which networks to use for which purpose. It seems like the naming terminology changes a bit from here to there.""You have to do a "full" sync on write-back cache disks instead of a quick sync if there is an issue.""I wish the sync after a failure, such as hardware failure or power-related issues, for example, was faster.""There needs to be more visibility on how long the cloud replication will take as there is no current ETA."

More StarWind Virtual SAN Cons →

"They should provide continuous support for data migration.""I am not really impressed by the technical support of this solution.""Licensing restrictions can be frustrating.""The solution needs to offer more documentation and educational materials.""The solution must be more flexible.""I think there might be some room for improvement when it comes to pricing, because although I know how to convert customers, at the end of day, it's quite expensive. Sometimes your feature architecture is still coming out much cheaper than hardware costs for your infrastructure.""Including instrumentation would be a helpful improvement.""The storage capability must be improved."

More Dell PowerFlex Cons →

"In the next release, I would like to see support for Docker and containers.""The cost of using the public cloud deployment is astronomical.""The solution's storage size could be improved.""Dell needs to do a lot of work to simplify the maintenance and life-cycle upgrades for the product.""There should be more provisioning capabilities within the solution.""We are not always advised of new features or updates, so we must research to stay up to date.""Currently, there is no support for the servers that are not in the cluster."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The setup cost is very low. The pricing is great."
  • "We are happy with the price."
  • "The license is reusable. We can always rebuild it and apply the license. Then, boom, we get new servers, apply the license, and we're back up and running."
  • "The pricing is fine for the work that it does."
  • "When we did all the analysis for StarWind, it was approximately 20 percent less than any of the other solutions that we looked at."
  • "The scalability limitation for us is its licensing. At some point in the fairly near future, we will probably have to upgrade our license so we can store eight terabytes instead of four. We are currently at four terabytes, but we're starting to knock on the door of that capacity."
  • "The pricing is excellent. It will run on anything. You don't have to buy a $100,000 server, with hardware you don't need. You just pay for the license and you're good to go."
  • "The licensing is a bit weird. If you license the standard version of StarWind, it allows you four terabytes. Then, they have a pro version, but with the pro version, the only difference is it doubles the terabytes to eight."
