Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"All the features in the system are highly valuable.""The deduplication feature is the best aspect of the solution.""The product is good for backups.""It is a very complete product.""The setup is very easy.""The most valuable feature for me in Dell Avamar is the automation, which is good for completion.""We love the instant recovery functionality. It's very useful.""The performance of Dell EMC Avamar is good."

"The most valuable feature is creating virtual databases.""Delphix interfaces are simple to use and very user friendly.""It provides the ability to roll back to a point in time or roll forward without the assistance of a DBA.""Delphix's technical support is fairly knowledgeable.""The performance offered by the product, its price, and its ability to handle structured and unstructured data were good when compared to the other products in the market.""Delphix's data distribution is powerful. It's easy to distribute data with this solution. The main advantage of Delphix is that it generates copies of data.""It's really easy to install.""Data being available anytime is a life changer."

Cons
"Interfaces need to be improved.""It's very slow to backup and store information. It has two consoles and an application which are more difficult to use than a solution like Veeam.""The solution, in the future, should offer support for mobile.""More integration would be helpful, as well as the addition of more applications.""I want to see a more user-friendly and administrator-friendly Dell Avamar. The solution also needs a better UI and dashboard.""Avamar is dependent on the hardware. It can't be implemented with ordinary storage. It can only be implemented with an EMC product. We want to have a backup solution that allows us to use independent storage and other hardware. It would be good if they can simplify its technology and make it possible to implement it with another storage. This is probably not possible because Avamar is an EMC product, and EMC would like to sell its own products.""Dell Avamar could improve by adding more backup features.""It is very scalable, and that's its claim to fame, but that also makes it hard to make changes. Anytime there is a large piece of software, changing that piece of software is harder. You've got a larger install base, so you can't just rapidly change. We also use another product called Veeam, and it has this new feature called Continuous Data Protection, which basically lets you get very close to the way the system was in time. We have a system or two up there on which we have set 10 minutes Continuous Data Protection. So, we can roll it back to whatever it was 10 minutes ago, 20 minutes ago, or 30 minutes ago. This feature doesn't exist in Avamar Data Domain. That's the one feature I'd like to see first."

"The solution’s self-service portal must be more interactive and user-friendly.""The solution's price needs improvement.""When it comes to unstructured and structured data, if Delphix can comply with the requirements for most of the structured data, it would be good, especially if it can include the data scanning part.""Delphix could be improved with better usability and an agentless option.""One thing I would like to see improved is the unusual error messages we receive and some slowness we have while we are updating.""My only complaint about this solution is the price.""GUI could be improved.""Delphix needs better partnerships from a customer perspective. It's how they sell it, not what they're selling."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It is very expensive. It's a trust based licensing. So that's an ethical challenge."
  • "This solution is less expensive than Veeam for us, although it depends on the customer because we get a great discount."
  • "I'm not sure, but perhaps the pricing could be done better at the moment."
  • "The price is the main thing I'd like to see them change. If they can come down in price, that would be a good thing. It's very cost competitive in the entry level range, because Veeam pricing is much cheaper than Avamar."
  • "It was approximately $70-80,000 when it was under support, but right now EMC has not been supporting this product for two years."
  • "Licensing was generally on a per VM or terabyte basis. They changed their licensing model a couple of times and turned it into socket-based licensing, which is an improvement in their licensing model."
  • "When it comes to competition the price is not what is important, it's not the problem."
  • "The price of this product should be lower."

  • "The cost is $370K annually for the Delphix Masking Engine and Delphix Virtualization Engine."
  • "Delphix's pricing is affordable."
  • "I would say the price is a little high but affordable for our needs."
  • "It is an expensive solution."
  • "The product is a little bit expensive."
  • "I rate the product price seven to eight on a scale of one to ten, where one is the low price, and ten is the high price."
