We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"This solution provides us with the ability to sync data, and make it available for anyone to use across the business.""Denodo is very stable.""In PL/SQL, first you need to gather all the data and then start writing the file, but in Denodo you fetch the data and write the data simultaneously. So, for example, if you have 1 million or 2 million records, you don't have to wait to fetch all of the 2 million; you can keep on fetching and writing in the file simultaneously.""Denodo makes it easy to export data as a service or data link to other services.""One thing that we have noticed is that when you have a BI tool, you end up building a lot of the logic in the BI tool, but as a company, every company wants to be tool agnostic because today, you could be in the Qlik Sense, and tomorrow, you may decide to go with Tableau or something else that is there. If you have put a lot of logic within the tool, transitioning or moving away from one BI tool to another tool becomes a very intensive process. By keeping the logic in Denodo, you can move to any tool.""The performance and the speed to market are the most valuable features of this solution.""The most valuable aspects of this solution are the short time frame in which you can deliver and connect.""It is a very stable solution."

"The integration with different technologies is the most valuable feature.""This solution is extremely flexible and scalable.""Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.""IBM InfoSphere Information Server is stable."

Cons
"The dropdown menus feel antiquated to me, and the administrative portals need improvement.""Performance management could be improved.""Monitoring event logs can be improved. In the older version, there was a monitoring schedule to get event reports and properly audit the reports. In the newer version, it is not there, and we have to manually configure data and audit events.""Lacks integrations with AWS, GCP and the like.""Sometimes, Windows-related functions do not work properly in Denodo. The analytic functions in SQL do not work properly.""Tasks such as conversion of a date format or conversion of a number format that can be done in a very easy way in different languages, like SQL or Oracle, are not so easy to do in Denodo. For example, if you want to convert a date from one format to another, in Oracle it's pretty easy; in Denodo, however, it requires so many lines of code. Simple things that can be done very quickly in other database languages require more lines of code in Denodo.""It would be beneficial to make sure that the team that will be using Denodo has some kind of training on how to use the product at least a month beforehand, and there could even be some kind of feedback or Q&A sessions to go along with the training. If Denodo were able to provide this kind of training, it would be very helpful to users in insurance and banking companies because the staff are typically older and not always technically-minded.""The solution is slow when there are many virtualization layers."

More Denodo Cons →

"There are certain shortcomings in the cloud side of the solution, where improvements are required.""IBM InfoSphere Information Server should be more scalable. It should have the option to change the configuration to run on a single, non-multiple node, or multi-threading processing.""This solution would benefit from the engine being made more lightweight.""Their technical support needs improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The licensing should be improved, as the cost per connector is quite expensive."
  • "I don't know the actual cost, but it's tens of thousands of dollars per month."
  • "The licensing charges for this solution are payable annually."
  • "The pricing is pretty good, and I would rate it at four out of five."
  • "Cost wise, on a scale from one to five, with one being the cheapest and five being the most expensive, Denodo would be at three. We get all the features in a bundle."
  • "Depending on the size of the client you want to work with, it can be prohibitively expensive at times."
  • "There is an express edition and a licensed enterprise edition."
  • "Talking with my manager and others, nobody has complained about the pricing so far which is a positive sign."
