Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"We really liked its ease of implementation against our Microsoft Azure environment.""Its monitoring and alerts are triggered by a failure or non-compliance with policies. It helps us to be able to act effectively and quickly.""The rulesets and the findings are valuable. The actual core functionality of it and the efficacy of events are great.""Good interface and visibility.""The dashboard is intuitive. You know if you're compliant or not, and then it gives you a remediation plan.""The most valuable feature is the ability to work with the APIs to integrate into our own backend systems.""It presents great visibility of the traffic flow of our cloud, providing information on what data and users are circulating and in the event of a threat, it immediately identifies them by providing detailed and granular information from our entire environment.""We have more visibility than ever before, appreciating the valuable and proactive insight that we receive from the platform."

"There is something called zero-touch provisioning, where you can add a new device without any configuration. You just add it to FortiManager and then forget about it.""The capability of centralized management is valuable. We can configure all firewall boxes with the same configuration.""Setup, setting policies, and reporting were all very easy. We had no issues whatsoever getting the solution up and running.""The initial setup was straightforward.""FortiManager enables us to set unified firewall policies from one centralized dashboard, reducing human error. If you do not have a central dashboard, there's a chance you might set a policy on one firewall and forget to do it for another.""The user interface, along with user-friendly planning features, makes it straightforward to configure desired settings.""Technical support is great. When we have sent urgent tickets and they do reply back within fifteen minutes.""Fortinet FortiManager allows you to manage multiple FortiGate devices from a single console, and this is a valuable product feature."

Cons
"I am not a technical person, but generically, the user interface can be a little more intuitive. Our staff has trained network security and cloud security professionals, and they get it, but when you are trying to get to the customers to be able to pick it up and maintain it, it can be a bit difficult.""No improvements are needed.""The setup can be better. With every other Check Point product, the setup is scripted. You just approve versions, and then you are off. The setup for this solution is still very much manual. I would like to see that transition to more of a scripted setup.""I'd like to see more advanced encryption for local features, which is not present right now.""The support it provides is not very good. They should improve it since we have had several setbacks due to support issues.""Adding a feature that allows me to easily identify the changes that have been made to the CIS benchmark and update my own policy accordingly would be a valuable addition to Check Point CloudGuard Posture Management.""The costs are high.""Almost all features are good, however, they still require improvements to the code security portion on which integration with the major source code repository is required."

"The presence of Fortinet in our region (Nigeria) needs to be stronger.""FortiManager would be improved by putting everything into a single console, including Microsoft O365 integration.""The product is not very stable.""There may be a communication issue. However, other items may be the culprit, such as network connectivity. It depends on the customer's network.""The scalability has room for improvement.""Regional support in African countries needs to be improved.""It would be better if it were easier to run a routing protocol. In the next release, I would like them to enhance some features in the GUI rather than CLI or OSP. For example, whenever a customer generates an ISP directly on the firewall, it's complicated to configure the routing protocol.""FortiManager should improve the integration with third-party platforms."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "They support either annual licensing or hourly. At the time of our last negotiation, it was either one or the other, you could not mix or match. I would have liked to mix/match. "
  • "I would advise taking into account the existing number of devices and add a forecast of the number of devices to be added in the coming year or two, to obtain better pricing."
  • "It is a very straightforward licensing model that is based on the number of assets you are discovering and managing with the solution."
  • "The licensing and costs are straightforward, as they have a baseline of 100 workloads (number of instances) within one license with no additional nor hidden charges. If you want to have 200 workloads under Dome9, then you need to take out two licenses for that. Also, it does not have any impact on cloud billing, as data is shared using the API call. This is well within the limit of free API calls provided by the cloud provider."
  • "I suggest that you pay attention to the product pricing because while there are no tricks, and the licensing model is transparent, the final numbers may surprise you."
  • "Right now, we have licenses on 500 machines, and they are not cheap."
  • "The pricing is tremendous and super cheap. It is shockingly cheap for what you get out of it. I am happy with that. I hope that doesn't get reported back and they increase the prices. I love the pricing and the licensing makes sense. It is just assets: The more stuff that you have, the more you pay."
  • "Licensing and costs are straightforward, as they have a baseline of 100 workloads within one license and no additional charges."

  • "Fortinet FortiManager is not expensive at all if you compare it with other vendors like Check Point and Cisco. Fortinet products are the least expensive on the market in the category of firewalls."
  • "The licensing costs depend on how many devices you want to use."
  • "In comparison with other products, the price of FortiManager is reasonable."
  • "Fortinet is a high-end product and the cost is high. They should consider reducing the price, especially for existing customers."
  • "The license model they use depends on the size and is not limited to the users."
  • "This is an affordable solution, and its licensing model is based on the number of devices."
  • "For us, it is a little bit expensive."
  • "For the licensing fee, we paid around 10,000 to 15,000 euros."
