We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:
"It has a straightforward installation."
"All the data is well encrypted. In addition, the data is split into pieces so that if an endpoint is attacked or compromised with any kind of ransomware, the compromised machine can be relocated or restored. All the data that was previously backed up can be restored from the cloud. It has a lot of security features. Druva currently offers only the cloud version on AWS. Being a cloud solution, Druva goes by a lot of security compliances and provides a security portfolio. People are very skeptical of the data security in cloud solutions, and Druva has given consideration to that. It has some good geo-location features. If a machine is lost, when the machine is switched on and connected to the internet, that machine can be geo-located and tracked. It also has got the geo-wipeout feature. If someone tries to take out the data from a lost machine, they won't be able to do that. The moment an IT admin comes to know that the machine is no longer with a user, he or she can auto-run the geo-wipeout feature so that the data cannot be read by any third party. Duality replication is a unique thing about this solution. Everybody's data is not backed up if the data is common. Similar data is not backed up from other machines. The data backup also happens very smoothly. The bandwidth choking is very less. When the data is getting backed up, the users do not even get to know. There is no impact even when the users are not using high-speed bandwidth."
"If you are looking for a backup solution, go with Druva because it's quite simple."
"Our customers do not need to purchase third party storage or a separate server for data backup."
"The recovery aspect of the solution is its most valuable feature."
"It's incredibly fast."
"Not having to specify a time to run a backup with a fixed schedule is something that's really beneficial. In the past we had to schedule and try to manually stagger things over the window, to back up everything. Because Rubrik is SLA-based, you say, "Well, I need it to fit in this window here," and it just backs it up when it's most convenient for the Brik and for the third-party system. It looks at the CPU usage and says, "Okay, it's not as busy now. I know I've got time to take the backup." That's a real advantage."
"The most valuable feature is the Instant Recovery, where we can restore a VM or SQL database or any server or application, and have it up and running on their appliance within a few seconds."
"The ease of use is the most valuable feature. It is a very simple system compared to just about any other back up technology. It is extremely easy to use and very versatile."
"There is a live-restore feature, their Live Mount, and the way it works we can instantly recover a VM, a past backup, to be directly attached to our VMware environment. Rubrik will act as a disk for it. It's like an instant restore. Within a few minutes our VM is up and running. And then, if we want to restore it, we can just migrate it to our actual storage."
"In terms of usage, Rubrik has allowed us to retrieve data 80 to 90 percent faster than our previous technology."
"What I like about Rubrik is that you can back up to the cloud. It is a different kind of backup where you're not archiving the tape. Rubrik is a physical appliance. It is a dedicated appliance to which you can back up, and you can also back up to another device. So, you can back up to Rubrik and then to another device. If you have more than one site, you can set up Rubrik on site A and also on site B. You can back up to the Rubrik on site A and then replicate that data to the Rubrik on site B."
"It has also saved us time managing backups. It's pretty stable. So it sends us a report if something goes wrong, then you get a report. You don't really need to manually monitor this software over time. If something happens, you'll get an error and you'll get an email notification and then address it. We found the product pretty stable if it's configured correctly. So it has reduced management time."
"The initial setup is easy."
"If I could have an accelerator or something to back up the solution on the cloud, that would be helpful. Also, it would be helpful if the accelerator could give me a buffer of a couple of days for any kind of immediate recovery on an offsite."
"The user quota is an area that needs to be improved."
"The user quota is an area that needs to be improved."
"The backup time is very poor. The backup runs continuously. It goes on from morning till night. The system performance also becomes very poor when Druva inSync is running. When the backup starts, the systems become very slow. You cannot work while the backup is going on. After the backup is complete, the system performance picks up again. I raised this issue with Druva, but they are not able to resolve this issue. They should analyze the reason for this kind of problem. They have asked for too many error logs, but how do we get logs from the laptops of the users who are unavailable because they are not working from a centralized office, or they are at a customer site or are traveling? Such users can only communicate through emails. This problem is not related to just one user; it is related to every user. There are so many problems in the Druva inSync patches. Sometimes, the software gets uninstalled automatically, and we are not able to find it on the client system. The users say that they didn't uninstall the software. So, how do we find out who uninstalled the software? If the Druva inSync client is installed on the system, the users should not have the right to uninstall the patch. There should be a security system and an admin panel so that the Druva inSync software is locked when it is installed on the client system. Users should not uninstall it unknowingly. A user should be able to uninstall it only after providing a password set by the administrator. They have given many other restrictions, such as a user cannot restore the data from his laptop, or a user cannot remove the snapshot from his laptop. They can also provide a restriction for uninstalling Druva inSync."
"Druva inSync is very high in price. A general customer cannot afford this solution. Even if the product is good, people cannot afford such a high cost just for taking the backup. This is a recurring investment, and the customers have to pay for it every year. Druva is also yet to develop the channel and the channel or partner commitment."
"The support of other cloud services needs to be improved. It has very good cloud support for AWS but not with others."
"The reporting in the dashboard and reporting for extractions both need improvement. I would suggest making them easier to understand and use, not just out-of-the-box. We should also be able to customize them."
"The Office 365 protection could be improved."
"They support Hyper-V and it works with our CloudOut, the cloud DR, but they seem to add features for VMware first and Hyper-V gets added second or sometimes several releases after the VMware feature comes out."
"We would like to be able to do granular restores directly from Exchange. Also, more granular management of VM backups would help."
"There is always room for improvement with some shortcuts for the web interface. They could make it even more beautiful."
"Looking at how the data is broken down, we can see the total story, but sometimes it's difficult to see how big a particular snapshot is. Across 90 days of snapshots, which one is a particularly large one? Looking at the data holistically could be a lot easier."
"The solution needs to be more secure and needs to better protect against ransomware."
"The recovery of Oracle databases is too complicated. It is not something that helps the DBA, the Database Administrator, but it should be done by the backup person like many other solutions. Everything is ready for the DBA to recover the database. It is a way of doing things, but I don't think you should give the backup people the ability to do it."
"The pricing of Druva inSync is very high as compared to other cloud backup solutions."
"It is an expensive product for the middle class or SMB customers in India. A lot of top-level big companies also cannot afford this solution. During the license period, one can download the entire data from the cloud without paying any additional cost. This way the data can be easily recreated from the stored data when a machine is lost or the data is compromised."
"It's approximately $4000.00 per user for one year."
"The price is quite good, It's approximately $4000.00 per user for one year."
"You need to understand what you're getting for the price. You are getting a backup solution, which is state of the art and works absolutely flawlessly. You are getting the storage needed to store your backups. You have all the sexy features that a modern backup solution can provide you, like deduplication, erasure coding, compression, fast execution time, secured data, and top-notch customer support. So, it might be expensive on paper. It's not free, but when you analyze what you are getting and the time you can spend on other stuff, then Rubrik is very cost-efficient."
"Due to this effective, faster backup and recovery solution, we are now able to focus on other creative tasks to meet our entire pipeline. So, we have seen ROI in terms of the improvement of productivity in our team. We save around one million dollars a year."
"We do perpetual licensing... It was all based on the amount of storage we needed to use. We did a cost analysis compared to Tivoli and it was in line with other solutions."
"As a technical person, I don't have the details, but from what I have heard, it can be expensive."
"Rubrik is not the cheapest solution, but we've been happy with the time savings that we have seen. At least from what we have spent so far, we have been happy with the return on investment."
"You pay a premium for Rubrik, but you're getting a premium service that comes with immutable backups, instant recovery, and world-class support."
"Rubrik was probably the most expensive solution but in the long run, it's justified by the value of the data that it protects."
"The pricing and licensing of Rubrik is better than products that we've had in the past. It was quite a bit cheaper than Commvault and NetBackup."
