We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Scalable and stable network monitoring tool with a simple setup.""What I like best is the configuration management functionality.""It is easy to understand and determine when and/or where the network is failing.""We can plan changes and replacement of end-of-life products in our environment very well because it's very accurate.""This product provides good visibility into applications at the backend.""Spectrum is great for root cause analysis. It has excellent correlation event management. Spectrum's stability and scalability are also amazing.""The main thing is obviously notifications about alerts, getting ahead of the curve to make sure that we do not have system going down, or if it is down we get to know it earlier.""The most valuable feature is the auto-discovery, which is nice because you don't have to do anything to add a new component."

"Splunk APM has helped us to standardize logging and monitoring procedures.""Detectors are a powerful feature.""The most beneficial aspect of Slunk APM is the ATM, which is the map displaying the inbound and outbound relationships of the microservices, as well as the traffic between these dependencies. This feature provides us with valuable insights and helps us understand the interactions between different microservices.""It is a good tool. It allows you to set alerts for application and infrastructure monitoring, and it allows you to create dashboards.""The most valuable features are troubleshooting and optimizing application performance.""The solution's service map feature allows us to have a holistic overview and to see quickly where the issues are.""This solution is very quick to deploy as it is a SaaS solution and integrates with tools like ServiceNow.""Splunk's dashboards are great."

Cons
"We have had some issues with the spec server and the high availability replication of data. It fails over well, but it does not come back very well. We get duplicated events.""There's a little bit of complexity to the initial install because you're dealing with operating systems. You have to make sure all the prerequisites are done, anti-virus exceptions, etc. Then there's the bringing it up and then there's discovery of the network and setting that up. It takes time.""Event correlation only works on one server, rather than on all of the servers in the same cluster environment.""DX Spectrum needs to incorporate faster support.""There should be better integration with other Broadcom products, like network performance manager. Currently, for every part of a product, you need a separate server environment. You have something for Spectrum, you have something for network performance, and you have something for NetFlow. There are a lot of islands and server farms with different technologies. They should be redeveloped to get one platform for all.""It takes some time to learn how to use this solution.""The biggest issue is our integration right now between UIM and Spectrum is lacking.""OS monitoring needs to be better developed, as well as their services, e.g., cluster monitoring, URLs, etc."

More DX Spectrum Cons →

"The licensing model is expensive. We need to monitor the amount of data ingested because the cost is based on the data collected.""Splunk APM should include a better correlation between resources and infrastructure monitoring.""I've been using the Splunk query language, and it can be a bit time-consuming to set up the queries I need.""Primarily, the logs in Slunk APM can be challenging to navigate and comprehend, making it difficult to understand the details within each log. Compared to other tools like LogDNA, which are more intuitive in this aspect, the logs in Slunk APM can require more effort to understand.""We currently lack log analysis capabilities in Splunk APM.""Splunk APM's performance could be improved - at the moment, it's very slow and takes forever to give me what I want.""It is essential for the monitoring tool to deliver quick response times when generating analytical reports, instead of prolonged delays.""They can improve the flow system and the keyword language. It has predefined keywords, but they can be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It is very pricey. With the current trend of enterprises moving towards cheaper and more modern looking solutions like ManageEngine, SevOne, ServicePilot, and Paesller."
  • "It’s a great tool, but an expensive one. Learn how to use it properly."
  • "The cost of some of these products are a little cost prohibitive, which is unfortunate. We have to find lower cost solutions for some of the things that we have to pull in. For the most part, CA has capabilities in pretty much everything that you would need. You just have to figure out where are you going to spend the most money for what you have to actually get done. You can do all these things but, which ones do you have to do? And that's hard to choose sometimes because you want to do them all."
  • "In general, the license cost will be about 30% of the total TCO for this tool (hardware/support team, OS costs, and OS management)."
  • "The product, support, and maintenance are all expensive, which is another reason that we are switching to another solution."
  • "The price is very high."
  • "The price of the solution is reasonable."
  • "Currently, a perpetual license but some services are moving to a subscription"
