Quotes From Members Comparing Dynatrace vs. SiteScope

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
The visibility that it provides through the application's behavior allows us to find trends based on our customized metrics. It gives us visibility into the product and what we are doing operationally. The stability is rock solid. We put a lot of stress on it.It provides us a reference for being able to go back and look at data at a certain point, analyze it, then determine if something was the root cause. It reduces our efforts to identify services failing in production. You don't have to configure it. It just needs to be installed. The view it provides for default analysis is very nice. The way in which it showcases how the metrics have been captured and how lucidly that they are displayed. This is a good thing to have from a technical and non-technical perspective. We got firsthand RCA as soon as we finished implementation.

SiteScope has built-in flat file DB, hence it removes the dependency of an external DB for higher stability.Has a simple setup. It can be up and running within hours. It can monitor over a 100 technologies with built-in solution templates. The Monitor Templates functionality allowed us to spin up monitoring with .csv files pretty easily.Simplest tool for monitoring servers, web content, databases and other hardware. Its dashboard is really good.Simple deployment: The deployment uses protocols such as NetBios, SSH, WMI, SNMP, which means that any device with any of these protocols will be monitored.

Cons
The new Managed Edition is too complex. I feel like a fish out of water. As we move into using more AWS native architectures, it should support everything that we want to do. We don't want to adopt another tool.I would like them to add serverless capabilities, because everyone is going there. When compared with other tools, the experience needs improvement. I would like them to build out the interactions and make them friendlier. They should include more mission learning into the product and provide additional performance metrics for application learning. For the manage services, they work on CloudWatch logs and are given CloudWatch logs only. I would like more collaboration with AWS and insight into CloudWatch services. This would be valuable, especially when detecting the fault of the root cause analysis. It would make the process go faster. The problem evaluation feature is an awesome idea, but bit difficult to pick up initially. In the new Dynatrace solution, support for legacy applications is still not there.

Direct integration with an SMS gateway for sending critical alerts to the support SME. This will help customer investing in third party middleware solutions for SMS.They have not kept up with browser security requirements or advances in GUIs, they switched to a corruptible database architecture instead of text config files. They should provide more templates for new vendor devices. It could be more reliable using a database repository instead of a log repository.

Pricing and Cost Advice
The product is pricey, but it is feature-rich, which is why we probably haven't looked away from it.The price could be improved. There is time savings. People's times have been cut in half using this solution because we were previously doing a lot of that manual work. Now, it's a lot more automated, and the data is just there. While it is quite good in respect to its functionality, there are few area in regards to pricing that they can look at how to possibly change. I have heard it's costly.Pricing can be high, especially for Portuguese standards. But as one says, you get what you pay for.Setup cost is very low considering that it is an almost totally, automatic process.Licensing is very interesting, as you pay only for what is being monitored. A lot of things are given away for no additional cost. If you have a great IT consolidation, it will be pretty cheap. If you have a lot of servers, it will be heavier.I have not been able to observe more than 1% overhead, despite Dynatrace saying that it can be slightly higher in some situations.

SiteScope licensing can be node based-or monitor-based. I would recommend for node-based licensing. You have to pay for their "solution templates". Other tools do not charge you for knowledge-based monitoring bundles.
