We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The solution is a stable one.""The solution is based on a Windows model, where adding users is just a few clicks. It is easy to manage users and add them.""It provides very strong cross-platform support.""The main feature of Eggplant Test is that it can do fully automated web testing and app testing.""The most valuable features would be the image recognition and the OCR.""DAI's newest release allows us to test via scripts rather than models, because we have done 95 percent of our development in functional, not through modeling. I am really happy that then we can use the controller to run scripts rather than having to translate things to models. There are lots of options.""We did see a massive return on investment from using Eggplant.""Everything is happening on the layout or display that is used by the user. Eggplant prompts processes, like 'click here,' or 'look for this image.' Eggplant makes it possible for QA people and BAs, working in the actual display, to check if the software is providing the right images, the right text, and the right results. They don't have to go inside the code or to the TCP/IP layer. Everything is happening at the highest level."

"Compared to other products, UFT One is better, faster, and more accurate.""It is easy to automate and new personnel can start learning automation using UFT One. You don't have to learn any scripting.""We have used it for the web and Windows-based applications. It is very productive in terms of execution.""It's simple to set up.""One advantage of Micro Focus UFT is that it is more compatible with SAP, Desktop ECC SAP, than S/4HANA.""The ease of record and playback as well as descriptive programming are the most valuable features of UFT (QTP).""I find UFT One to be very good for thick clients, which are non-browser applications.""It's not only web-based but also for backend applications; you can also do the integration of the applications."

Cons
"In terms of additional features, it would be helpful to have one package for all testing. You have the manager, the AI, then you have functional, and about 10 different packages for installing.""The IDE could be even more full-featured. Because I was a developer, I was very spoiled by either Visual Studio Code or Visual Studio for shortcuts. For example, I was able to say "ctor" and hit Tab and it would create a template of a constructor for me... It would be great, when I want to create a new function, if there were shortcut commands like those that helped create all of the functions, or if there were shortcut features to do any of the complex plans.""The language is too specific; it is just for Eggplant.""The reporting function is a bit shallow. The solution does not offer very comprehensive reporting in terms of your test results. The reporting time and the logs are very high level as well. These areas need improvement.""There was no free trial in it.""Eggplant Digital Automation Intelligence could improve by lowering the price.""Eggplant Test should emphasize on improving its offering in non-Windows environments.""They need to update the Linux. I think it's kind of an outdated Java Swing application."

More Eggplant Test Cons →

"The solution does not have proper scripting.""The AI feature needs improvement. For banking applications, we input formatted text from documents, but the AI feature is recognizing three fields as one field, e.g., for a phone number, it puts all 10 digits in the international code or country code. Then, the script fails.""Sometimes UFT can take a while to open and sometimes will run slower than expected.""Jumping to functions is supported from any Action/BPT Component code, but not from inside a function library where the target function exists in another library file. Workaround: Select search entire project for the function.""The product doesn't provide free training for the basic features.""Scripting has become more complex from a maintenance standpoint to support additional browsers.""I'd like to see UFT integrated more with some of the open source tools like Selenium, where web is involved.""It should consume less CPU, and the licensing cost could be lower."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It is scalable, but it is a matter of money in the pocket. You can scale it, but then you have to have additional licenses. The licensing approach of eggPlant is not the best."
  • "Make a smart decision about the number of developer- and execution-only licenses you purchase to maximize your budget. We found that going heavier on execution-only licenses has been a way to reduce our costs and maximize our ability to benefit from the software."
  • "End-to-end testing isn't possible for us because of the licensing problems. It's very expensive, so we only have two development/execution licenses."
  • "It probably has a yearly license."
  • "This solution is expensive when compared to the market. However, the reason it is more expensive is because of its stability, high performance, and for its support of any technology."
  • "Eggplant Test is a very expensive solution."

  • "It took about five years to break even. UFT is costly."
  • "The licensing and pricing model is confusing."
  • "It's an expensive solution."
  • "For the price of five automation licenses, you simply would not be able to hire five manual testers for two years worth of 24/7 manual testing work on demand."
  • "The price is only $3,000. I don't know how many QA analysts you would have in any given company. Probably no more than five or 10. So if it's a large corporation, it can easily afford $15,000 to $25,000. I don't see that being an issue."
  • "The way the pricing model works is that you pay a whole boatload year one. Then, every year after, it is around half or less. Because instead of paying for the new product, you are just paying for the support and maintenance of it. That is probably one of the biggest things that I hear from most people, even at conferences, "Yeah, I would love to use UFT One, but we don't have a budget for it.""
  • "The pricing fee is good. If someone makes use of the solution once a day for a half hour then the fee will be more expensive. For continuous use and application of the solution to different use cases, the fee is average."
  • "The price is one aspect that could be improved."
