Most Helpful Review
The Deduplication and Compression are the most valuable. The processing capabilities (version DD670) could be improved.
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:
This is a superior and reliable backup system that can handle large capacities with little management.
The backup is very secure. The deduplication using EMC is very good. We are able to make systems and handle random cloning. EMC is a very stable solution for making backups.
The product provides good backup and compression services.
The solution's most valuable feature is the integrated deduplication function.
It's very easy to use the domain once it's been set up. The interface is also user-friendly.
The most valuable features are the deduplication and compression and the Data Domain Boost.
We have never had any issues with Data Domain. It has been stable.
The initial setup was straightforward. Deployment takes about two weeks.
Regarding scalability, it's unlimited with Data Protector. You can link multiple installations and let them work together. They can share backup devices. You have many possibilities with Data Protector. It's very proficient.
The feature that was most valuable was that we could restore one mailbox and we could do different backups for different databases.
The solution allows us to be able to backup and exchange directly, to backup Microsoft exchange.
This solution is quite stable because we have only three users.
Performs the backup properly and protects our data.
I have used Micro Focus Data Protector for the file backup facilities. My primary use of the software is to backup file data.
It's supports Unix, Linux, all of the OS's. It's very stable software.
The product lacks some security features that would make it more stand-alone and integrated.
They should reduce the CPC cost to customers. The product is becoming very expensive.
The licensing model was the biggest concern for our company, but the poor support after the initial implementation is of equal concern.
The pricing could be better, but it's still not too expensive.
The firmware upgrades could be simplified. I'm in the process of struggling to upgrade right now.
We have had deduplication and replication issues. When we used another backup software we noticed that it didn't have the same issues.
We are not able to deal directly with the OEM we have to go to their partners in Nigeria.
The pricing model needs to be improved.
People prefer Veeam because the interface is easier, and Data Protector is difficult in comparison.
It's very expensive compared to Veeam and other similar solutions.
The solution is not intuitive enough. I think they should work on the user experience and the graphical interface. These can be a lot better.
The technical support was very slow.
The technical support is poor and should be improved.
They should design the solution so that it is much easier for deployment and make the UI easy to use.
The new backup systems are using new mechanisms for the recovery phases; for example, VM, recovery and testing the backup before recovering it. These features are not available in Data Protector.
Pricing and Cost Advice
This is one of the more expensive backup solutions on the market.
There are many options in the pricing structure which can cause some confusion and necessitate the purchase of additional licensing.
In Naira it was twenty-five or twenty-seven million (approximately $75,000 USD) for the implementation and maintenance cost for three years.
Pricing is related to size. A lower range solution might be about $33,000. My customers use higher range versions with a price of around $100,000. That's the price for both the hardware and software.
It is expensive, but the performance and deduplication cover for the cost.
The licensing cost was not annual. We didn't pay any license. We paid when we deployed and we didn't pay for anything after that. There were no additional fees after the initial payment.
In Data Protector, if you need extra features, you need to buy the agents for these features. Some of the features are Terabytes, some of them are agents. There's some complexity in the pricing and licensing.
