Quotes From Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"The most valuable features for us are impact analysis, where I can easily visualize the impact of change.""The initial setup was really straightforward and the deployment was done within one day.""The ability to share and collaborate on the solution is its most valuable feature.""We use erwin Evolve to publish to the website. This allows us to enable publishing our website using parameterisation features. In a very fast, quick way, we can publish a table or chart onto a website.""I can send images in the PDF form, along with the relationships and the associations that are a very important part of what we do. It can show what is affected and what is impacted by a certain change in one area of the system architecture or enterprise architecture. I can very quickly draw those issues and topics to the fore.""I have not seen capabilities for web-sharing and interaction with the architecture from any other supplier. It's a great capability...""By placing the data and the metadata into a model, which is what the tool does, you gain the abilities for linkages between different objects in the model, linkages that you cannot get on paper or with Visio or PowerPoint. That is a huge discriminator.""There is a model behind it. It's really nice that the Evolve front-end, as it builds a website, keeps those relationships in mind. You can even go to a procedure and see all the applications that are related to it. Then you can go into that application and see all the standard operating procedures that that application is a part of. It's just very connected."

"Putting details into the process flow and being able to link other objects into the diagrams are very helpful features.""It is easy to learn and implement.""I enjoy the fact that I can go into detail with Visio. In shared communications, I can inspect for any fault in my processes.""Visio has improved our organization through an essential collaboration with the other Microsoft applications like SharePoint and Excel. So basically in the earlier days, what used to happen, a majority of the organization captured all the as-is process, the time and motion data in the form of Excel and then they used to create process diagrams using other freeware applications. Collaboration allows easy and convenient sharing with other stakeholders, that is really helpful with Visio.""The Data Objects are hyperlinked to the Standard Operating Procedures, Letters, and Forms.""I like to use Visio because it gives me a quick view of the things I had to put in a model for a company. I don't use it as an interface, though.""It keeps track of its connections as you move things around.""The most valuable features are process mapping and identifying responsibilities."

Cons
"I feel that the UML drawing capability needs to be improved.""I would like to see an improvement in the output of the solution.""The solution needs to focus on allowing for more integrations.""The way that we are using it for application management, we have several KPIs. We want to follow and monitor them regarding a number of solutions. We cannot calculate this today. We would like real-time calculations along with the KPIs in order to improve the user experience. We would like the tool to be able to display this, not only as signals, but as charts.""The solution's integration capabilities with other tools in our system has not been all that well done. We have people who use ARIS, who use System Architect and, of course, Visio. erwin has very limited ways to import and export from those kinds of tools. It's not a very easy thing to do.""With the Excel importing, the "up to date" part is the challenge. If we had a real-time integration, we could keep things up to date for whatever kinds of change points we had. With Excel, it is more that you have to export from one system then import it to another, so it's better for data that doesn't change that often.""I would like it to be easier to make changes and then deploy them into production, especially when you have multiple web servers or front-ends. It would be nice to make a change and then have it propagate to the production servers in a more automated fashion.""What they need to do is to consolidate more of their products. For example, I was just looking and I couldn't figure out what erwin DT is. It's on the website but it would help if they could put information together and make it more clear as to what products they have and how they work with other things."

More erwin Evolve Cons »

"I would like to be able to present diagrams in multiple ways, such as a Swimlane diagram.""It does not integrate well with other solutions.""Transferring data was one of the issues that I expected Visio to have resolved. I use the older version.""The one particular thing which I would like to see improved is in comparison to other products in the market, and is still lacking in Visio, is publishing on a web application. For example, there is a freeware application business process modeling tool, Bizagi.""I would like to see included in the next release is the implementation of web publishing.""The Auto-Align has improved significantly from the previous release; however, it still jumbles the model if your process diagram has a fair degree of complexity.""Something that needs to improve, is the interface interaction with other tools.""System architecture could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"On a yearly basis, our licensing costs are 50,000 euro. There are no additional costs because we are on a SaaS model.""The cost is something like $15,000, per license. But I haven't looked at those numbers in three years. It was over $100,000 to initially set everything up and get it all configured.""The licensing enables you to differentiate between people who edit the content and the people who consume it. We are able to keep the licensing costs down by keeping the "contributor" licenses to a minimum, and we then just roll out the content in a read-only version for the rest of our users.""I estimate that we pay between $40,000 and $50,000 a year for the solution, not including the upfront costs to buy things the first time.""Yearly, our cost is €100,000."

"It has a lower price point than the competition.""The cost of the software is reasonably priced.""The price is reasonable for individual use but for an organization, the costs is high.""Our license for Visio is including with the Office 365 subscription.""Visio is about a $180 dollars to purchase. It is a one-time licensing fee.""The yearly cost is approximately $400 CAD ($300 USD).""There are some cheaper as well as free solutions."
