Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Sentinel's most important feature is the ability to centralize all the logs in one place. There's no need to search multiple systems for information.""We can use Sentinel's playbook to block threats. It covers all of the environment, giving us great visibility.""Sentinel has features that have helped improve our security poster. It helped us in going ahead and identifying the gaps via analysis and focusing on the key elements.""The most valuable feature is the performance because unlike legacy SIEMs that were on-premises, it does not require as much maintenance.""The UI of Sentinel is very good and easy to use, even for beginners.""Native integration with Microsoft security products or other Microsoft software is also crucial. For example, we can integrate Sentinel with Office 365 with one click. Other integrations aren't as easy. Sometimes, we have to do it manually.""I like the ability to run custom KQL queries. I don't know if that feature is specific to Sentinel. As far as I know, they are using technology built into Azure's Log Analytics app. Sentinel integrates with that, and we use this functionality heavily.""The analytic rule is the most valuable feature."

"Alerting upon file changes is the most valuable aspect of the product.""Our customer acquires the complete report which is kept for future auditing purposes.""It is a good and stable solution...It is a scalable solution."

More FileAudit Pros →

"The solution lets us get all the logs properly and regularly monitor customer infrastructure.""The most valuable feature of Sentinel is the dashboard.""The most valuable feature of this solution is that it provides a central locking system for many event sources.""The stability is phenomenal and we never had any issues with downtime or even had to restart.""The most valuable feature is the flexible log for identifying security threats inside an application. Sentinel is very good at this.""The solution's Kusto Query Language (KQL) execution time is pretty good.""The native integration with out-of-the box format is hassle free and allows data to be used advantageously.""It makes everything easier by automating some tasks and growing with our needs."

Cons
"The following would be a challenge for any product in the market, but we have some in-house apps in our environment... our apps were built with different parameters and the APIs for them are not present in Sentinel. We are working with Microsoft to build those custom APIs that we require. That is currently in progress.""If Azure Sentinel had the ability to ingest Azure services from different tenants into another tenant that was hosting Azure Sentinel, and not lose any metadata, that would be a huge benefit to a lot of companies.""The reporting could be more structured.""The learning curve could be improved. I am still learning it. We were able to implement the basic features to get them up and running, but there are still so many things that I don't know about all its features. They have a lot of features that we have not been able to use or apply. If they could work on reducing the solution's learning curve, that would be good. While there is a training course held by Microsoft to learn more about this solution, there is a cost associated with it.""There are certain delays. For example, if an alert has been rated on Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, it might take up to an hour for that alert to reach Sentinel. This should ideally take no more than one or two seconds.""We're satisfied with the comprehensiveness of the security protection. That said, we do have issues sometimes where there have been global outages and we need to raise a ticket with Microsoft.""If Sentinel had a graphical user interface, it would be easier to use. I would also like it to be more customizable.""We do see continuous improvement all the time, however, I haven't got a specific feature that is lacking or not well designed."

More Microsoft Sentinel Cons →

"The updates management and central management console could be improved.""Whenever someone cuts and paste, it shows as "file is deleted".""The DLP function, including installation of the agent on the workstation and controlling the DLP restrictions, are areas where the product lacks."

More FileAudit Cons →

"Log source integration with Sentinel needs to be improved.""I rate Sentinel a six out of ten for scalability.""The dashboard and customer view should be improved""There is no integration in the web-side of the tool.""There is a need for more flexibility in customization, especially when working with different vendors and platforms.""This product's connection to certain types of cloud systems could be improved. We can do Microsoft, Google, and Amazon, but there are a lot of other things happening in the cloud that we do not connect well enough to. This product could be improved with better connection to cloud-based solutions.""You need a lot of Unix scripting knowledge in order to manage the tool, which is one of the main issues that we faced.""Creating a drag-and-drop dashboard or workbook in Sentinel is a little more complex compared to other tools like LogRhythm and IBM QRadar."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It comes with a Microsoft subscription which the customer has, so they don't have to invest somewhere else."
  • "It is a consumption-based license model. bands at 100, 200, 400 GB per day etc. Azure Sentinel Pricing | Microsoft Azure"
  • "Good monthly operational cost model for the detection and response outcomes delivered, M365 logs don't count toward the limits which is a good benefit."
  • "I have had mixed feedback. At one point, I heard a client say that it sometimes seems more expensive. Most of the clients are on Office 365 or M365, and they are forced to take Azure SIEM because of the integration."
  • "It is kind of like a sliding scale. There are different tiers of pricing that go from $100 per day up to $3,500 per day. So, it just kind of depends on how much data is being stored. There can be additional costs to the standard license other than the additional data. It just kind of depends on what other services you're spinning up in Azure, or if you're using something like Azure log analytics."
  • "I am just paying for the log space with Azure Sentinel. It costs us about $2,000 a month. Most of the logs are free. We are only paying money for Azure Firewall logs because email logs or Azure AD logs are free to use for us."
  • "Sentinel is a bit expensive. If you can figure a way of configuring it to meet your needs, then you can find a way around the cost."
  • "Azure Sentinel is very costly, or at least it appears to be very costly. The costs vary based on your ingestion and your retention charges."

  • "FileAudit provides a trial license for 30 days, and after that, customers can choose between perpetual licensing or the annual-based licensing option offered by FileAudit."

  • "We inquired about getting support from the vendor, Micro Focus, but the cost was very high."
  • "We receive a pricing discount because of our ongoing partnership with Micro Focus."
  • "Sentinel's slightly on the expensive side."
  • "The solution’s pricing is aligned with its competitors."
